Caught the train to London Saturday and spent the weekend in Richmond with the husband. I’m the Ted lasso fan hence the cheesy grin! Had Sunday roast at the Crown and Anchor (Princes Head) and saw Nick Mohammed having a day out with his family!

10/10 would definitely recommend! Loved every moment! Treated myself to a Roy Kent football shirt and biscuits with the boss!

Season 5 (and 6) up in the air? Jason Sudiekis podcast interview.

Per Jason there’s no writers room or order for Ted Lasso S5 and seems a bit up in the air. Interesting that he seems to indicate it’s more up to the main cast if they want to return (although it was reported they had contracts for a S5-6).

https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/jason-sudeikis-wants-ted-lasso-season-5-olivia-wilde-split-1236916062/

Sudeikis and Fragoso talked “Ted Lasso” up top, as the host asked whether the actor wanted to continue the show for Seasons 5 and 6. (The Season 4 finale aired earlier this month.) Sudeikis said he “would like to,” but the status of future seasons remains unknown: “Yeah, I just don’t know,” he said, assuring Fragoso he wasn’t being coy “intentionally.” “We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that,” he noted. He added that he would “assume” Apple would continue the show if the main cast wanted to return.

Reflections after Jason Sudeikis's interview on the Talk easy podcast.

I wanted to share a reflection with you all after watching Jason Sudeikis's interview on the podcast Talk Easy of Sam Fragoso. Some things threw me off a bit, and not in a good way. I'm mainly addressing those of you who have seen it.
First, I was surprised to read that there were various problems during the second season, or maybe the third, I don't remember exactly. He talked about episodes that, because the writing had developed several characters so well that they needed more room, grew to 50 minutes on air, while the budget only covered 30. From what I understood, this was a major source of conflict. I honestly didn't expect it. I thought the budget would have been increased after the extraordinary success of the first season, but apparently it wasn't. As viewers, though, this is of relatively little interest to us, since it's more of a behind-the-scenes matter. What struck me most is that negotiations for a fifth and sixth season haven't even started, since Jason seemed very evasive. He said explicitly that they haven't even begun writing the new episodes. So, thinking it through, if there is a fifth and sixth season, we may be talking about 2028, because it will take a few months to write, a few months to shoot, and a few months to edit, and 2026 is almost over. It doesn't look like it will be quick.
I don't know, it all seems so strange to me: such a successful show seems to be struggling with production or renewal. I don't know whether it's purely a money issue or whether there was some clash. From what I gathered in the interview, the relationship between Jason and Bill Lawrence wasn't idyllic either, since Bill left the show at a certain point.

Season 4 Discussion What’s your favorite little layer in the S4 dialogue? Spoiler

I’ll start: Gemma’s mom arranges flowers in a nice glass vase, and performatively tells her daughter “I made it!”

Gemma laughs, knowing her mother. “Did you really?”

“No…but if a took a couple glass-blowing classes, I reckon I could!” Gemma rolls her eyes at her mom’s insecurity-turned-inauthenticity.

Then Alice bursts in and lays the purest fire of loving truth on the whole room while mom awkwardly pretends not to be there. Alice notices her: “That’s a lovely vase, did you make it?”

Mom sighs in resignation in the face of Truth itself. “…no, I just bought it…”

“Well, you have exquisite taste.” leaves abruptly

I used to white-lie about hobbies I wanted to do but hadn’t gotten around to yet, just to make myself look better to others and feel better about myself. It took a lot of growth and self-awareness to stop compensating for my own insecurities and procrastinating on my own interests. It took exposure to people like Alice to iron that out. I felt so seen by that tiny detail.

Gemma’s mom gets almost no screen time, but even she is fleshed out with believable quirks. Well done, writers.

Season 4 Discussion About the season finale Spoiler

To preface this I’m a little late watching the the last two episodes. My dad died of a heart attack in his sleep about three weeks ago, and I haven’t had the heart to watch them. The last episode in the pub with the sister singing and his son talking about not having Mae to help with homework broke me. I’m glad I watched them, but I’ve never watched a show and felt more emotionally charged than this one. I’m really glad I did though, but I’m going to be honest I sobbed through a lot of it

I got to pull a Ted Lasso yesterday!

I was introducing 2 of my friends today at church and said “congratulations, you’ve each just met an awesome person!”
I know Ted says “cool” but regardless, I just felt happy afterwards. Even quoting Ted changes your attitude. ☺️

I got this idea two weeks ago and quickly put together renaissance Ted! I’m very proud of my paper mache shield! It definitely needs more that I will add to it next time but it still made me really happy

Season 2 Discussion The one part that suspension of disbelief didn’t work for me

• Upvotes

A non-season 4 thing too btw. Okay, ignoring all of the rules of the Premier League, immigration of former criminals to Great Britain, etc, the one thing I do have a laugh at is when Jamie shows up at training, and Higgins sees him from Rebecca’s office, and they are all in shock that Jamie is back. Higgins is the Director of Football Operations, Rebecca is the Owner of the team, and Keeley is the head of marketing for the team. All of them would have to know of him coming back. Higgins and his (unseen) staff to negotiate the contract, Rebecca to agree to it, Keeley to prepare a statement about Jamie Tartt returning to Richmond, etc. And yes, it is a show, it takes a lot of passing over of things to compress stories, but Ted couldn’t just add a new player all on his own. Or conversely just release one to make roster room for Jamie. Anyway.

Season 4 Discussion Season 4: Mae Spoiler

Spoiler alert: don't read ahead if you haven't finished season 4.

I loved this season! I haven't laughed out loud in so long as a good show! This one was so good. It was also a lot more emotional which i liked.

I do wish they explored more characters like Lizzie and her struggles of being a woman in football, a mom and the struggles she was experiencing with her ex. It was like yeah, I got the kids again and he's an arsehole, but the scene where he said to her I'm not the one trying to be an athlete after being a mom hit hard. They needed more of that I think. Not just the after impact of him letting her down again (if that even makes any sense).

But...

Unpopular opinion maybe? I hated that they killed Mae off. She was such a good character! I loved her episode and I do like the way they had written her off, doing what she loves.

However, I am disappointed she's gone now.

I wasn't a fan of them skipping the funeral straight into a wake because I thought her character deserved the whole thing. It would have had more of an emotional impact to me. It kinda just felt like they skipped over her passing and I lost that emotional connection to her character. I did like the Irish sister's tribute. Made me bawl my eyes out 😭

Anyways, I liked this season overall. Can't wait for the next!

Biscuits "Loving yourself isn't the same as bragging about yourself"

Quote from S4 EP 7.

Gosh I needed to hear this at this time, I feel well very connected to Ted. When Ted said that he feels like he's being obnoxicous or tooting the own train horn that is me every single time I talk about myself. I hate it so damn much. I just can't Thank you Keely Thank you Ted Lasso I love this show so much. There are so many lessons that I think anyone can take away from the show and well I'm just more and more happy.

What's everyone's favourite line or lesson in Ted Lasso? (I'm only patly way through s4 so no spoilers past these 7 episodes if possible. Thank you so much for being considerate. (1st year College life unforently has stopped me from wathcing my comfort tv show but I think I should just be considerta eand positive to myself and allow myself some grace including watching ted lasso <3)

What in the Yosemite Sam heck did they do to Tracy Ullman???

In her first appearance, I thought she was meant to be drunk and behaving unusually unhinged, but nope; they just went all in on it.

Was Zelda just bored?

• Upvotes

There has been some speculation o0n why Zelda went oafter Richmond. There never seemed to be any particualr malice in her towards Rebecca (until Rebecca no showed her party), but she seemed to have an odd interest in Richmond and Rebecca from the get go. Some have talked about whether she was threatened by another powerful woman.

After the big showdown in the finale, both her attitude during her reveal, and then the way she acted when she got thwarted, it seemed to me like she did all that capriciously, just because she was bored. As a billionaire, who threw outrageous parties and deliberately tried to provoke other powerful people, it seemed like she was just looking for something to do, and had no particular grudge

How many episodes did it take for you to get into Ted Lasso season 4?

I’m on the 6th one, and I don’t feel like I want to keep watching it. I am a Ted lasso fan tough. We watched first three seasons several times.

Six good ideas that became cringey instead

• Upvotes

Fantastic first 2 seasons. Good third season. Plenty of good ideas in season 4 and things to like. (Liked seeing Keely the way she was the first 2 seasons. Liked seeing Tartt return for an episode. Liked Alice’s character and many members of the new team.). However, I think a lot of ideas missed the mark in terms of how they were executed.

(1)   Coach Alice’s evolution into head coach.   Good character and relatable in life.   There
are many assistant coaches in sports and people in jobs with great ideas and passion who simply can’t manage people and understand people.  Seeing her learn from the ultimate player relationships coach was fun tk watch, as was his promoting her for the long term good of the team given his personal life (as opposed to just becuase she was a woman)

Cringe: complaint women weren’t considered for job originally.   Lasso was a legend and had a book written about his success as a coach.   No fan or coach would question the hire.  In fact, Rebecca would be celebrated by spending so much to bring in a Famous coach for a brand new team.

(2). Showing players struggle financially.     the league in real life loses money and players get paid little - kind of like doing community theater for a career - but it’s a chance to do what they love.

Cringe:  when Alice hung the believe sign and they all complained about their problems.   They came off as very entitled and sour - these aren’t nurses and doctors being underpaid compared to their male counterparts and demanding equality - these are members of a league still losing millions but trying to soldier on hoping it will one day be profitable (as the wnba has improved the last few years).    This was a bad look and didn’t make anyone want to root for them.

(3). Trying to increase interest in the league.   The league has poor attendance, revenue, and viewership and they are desperately trying to promote it.  This shows the struggle teams in britain have today.  I figured they’d be doing inventive promotions, getting the men’s team to promote the women for free, etc (you know, like in the real world)

Cringe:  screaming and belittling owners and fans for not investing in it as if it’s a Charity.  They are charging money for their games and trying to guilt people into spending money on it.   It really was unbelievable.

(4).   Player tryouts.  Many movies have been made of men down on their luck finally getting a chance at their dream to play.   2nd chances and all that

Cringe:   Lizzy.    Showing up with her son at tryouts was cringey more than relatable.     Starts talking to players like they are kids and shows “leadership” and actually is named captain of the team.     This is insulting to the other players and makes it look like the women’s team is pathetic.

(5).  Having to balance the dream of football against a chance for a more stable paycheck.   It started out looking like this as we see someone in law school trying to be recruited to play football

Cringe:   Rather than having to choose between the two, she chooses both.   And…..she is the top goal scorer in the league and the TOP student in her law school at the same time to the point she is going to be recommended for the top program.   This was insulting all the way around.   Actually, this is the worse character In the show this season.    Rather than feeling blessed for a football dad and a rich home and opportunities she tries to renounce her parents wealth and privilege saying it’s “their money, not mine,”.   All the stars on all the men’s teams were portrayed as lovable idiots - I have no idea what they are trying to accomplish with her but she was universally the least liked character and least relatable.

(6). Ted’s return to dating. I get it - People want to see Lasso happy and move on with his life.   The thing is - The man is actually famous and is seeking age appropriate women.   Yet, he can’t seem to make a connection with anyone   Sad to watch but common in a dark comedy.

Cringe:   Focusing on his Father role (again) as an excuse not to date.   There was a popular show 60 years ago about a single father (the rifleman) who sacrificed a lot to raise his 8 year old son.    The show became less popular as his son became a teenager a few seasons in.     Ted shares 50 percent custody with one kid who is now a teenager.   While it’s important he makes sure her is there, at this point it almost looks like it’s Ted who needs it more than his son.

Also, it really looks like he is still carrying a torch for his ex and hasn’t moved on.   I’m not sure how that can’t be cringe.
