Many Leftists unfortunately hold a romanticised view that a revolution immediately births a utopian worker's state, if anything, thats a misconception that contradicts the core tenets of historical materialism and the lived reality of revolutionary history. Because a revolution does not instantly eliminate classes nor scarcity and there are still capitalist elements left behind, a state apparatus remains necessary as Karl Marx himself noted in The Critique of the Gotha Programme.

Vladimir Lenin explicitly conceptualised state capitalism under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat as a tactical blueprint for building socialism in a technologically underdeveloped nation. Rather than a permanent fixture, market mechanisms were intended as a temporary tool to develop productive forces. For Russia, this meant a necessary economic retreat, using limited market relations, small scale capitalism, and foreign concessions to revive a devastated, agrarian economy under strict proletarian state control. Over time, this tactical retreat evolved into a universal theoretical framework, providing a methodology that future socialist states facing similar material constraints could adapt to their own realities.

This was in no way a return to capitalism because the commanding heights of the economy like heavy industry, banking, foreign trade, and transport remained firmly under the control of the proletarian state.

For China, CPC under Deng Xiaoping explicitly used the Leninist guideline according to their own material realities. Officially designating their modern era as the Primary Stage of Socialism, openly acknowledging that they were running a massive, decades long, highly sophisticated version of Lenin's NEP.

The CPC is currently executing a systematic liquidation of speculative markets, the purging of fictitious capital, marking a definitive pivot toward a fully digitalised, cybernetic command economy.

For nearly 40 years, the CPC strategically tolerated real estate bubbles, high-frequency financial speculation, and the chaotic expansion of consumer tech monopolies. In strict accordance with historical materialism, these capitalist mechanisms were temporarily permitted as highly efficient engines to rapidly develop the productive forces and build a massive material foundation.

In the current strategic epoch, however, the CPC recognises that unconstrained speculation has outlived its tactical utility, posing an existential threat to the Dictatorship of the Proletariat and constituting a parasitic, bourgeois drain on precious national resources. Under newly enforced central guidelines, the socialist state is aggressively suppressing these anarchic market forces to subordinate the law of value to the conscious, scientific allocation of the collective surplus.

Materially, this means enforcing the strict rule that houses are for living, not for financial gambling. The state has dismantled the predatory pre-sale models used by private property giants, replacing the entire sector with predictable, state owned public housing utilities. Simultaneously, regulatory crackdowns have restricted quantitative algorithmic trading and severed cross border brokerage channels, permanently blocking the financial bourgeoisie from exporting wealth or disrupting domestic stability.

By aggressively shutting down these financial casinos, the state successfully forces all available domestic surplus out of speculative loops and into the specific, physical channels required by its central planning algorithms. This strategic redirection ensures that capital is strictly deployed into hard technology manufacturing, national computing infrastructure, and advanced robotics, establishing a cybernetic system where the state holds total command over both production and resource allocation.

As I was saying in this thread, when I was in elementary school, the school I went to at the time was in what was essentially a glorified military town. Because the school would give us our lesson plans in advance, we would typically finish our work by Friday, so we would usually get the end of the day to watch movies. Sometimes, though, they would allow parents to come in and give presentations. Sometimes, we got fun things, like science demonstrations from a dad who worked at Gulfstream.

However, when we were learning about media and bias, specifically how to present information in an unbiased tone versus a biased one, we had a presentation from one kid’s dad and another guy who must have been contracted to work at the base. They gave us a full, in-depth presentation about how Twitter was being used to help coordinate protests against the Chinese government and how it facilitated their rapid spread, until the Chinese government responded by banning Twitter through what they called the Great Firewall of China. They then explained how this demonstrated that technology could be used to bring about great change in future protest movements.

This was being presented to my class in 2010–2011, when I was a second grader.
