Six months of job search in Marketing

Post image
50 Upvotes

Hello all

As some others have shared it, I thought I might share my job search journey as well. I've been laid off with 2 months notice period earlier this year. I had now 4 months of unemployment.

I work in marketing. Some short context to myself: 10 years of experience in Marketing, i don't have a bachelor's or master's degree. I have a Federal Diploma of Higher Education which can also be called "Professional Bachelor" as of this month.

What I did:

  1. I created a CV and letter that was visually appealing while remaining ATS-friendly. I also tailored these documents to every single position I applied for.
  2. I prepared very well for the interviews. I researched the companies, their products, their marketing activities and the people I would be speaking with. I think that paid off, as I advanced from the first to the second round in almost 93% of the cases.
  3. For myself, quality was more important than quantity. I understand, in some sectors such as tech this might not be viable. For me however, I didn't send out hundreds of applications, but tried to make each one I sent out count.

For context: This wasn't in Zurich.

In the end, I received three job offers, turned down two and accepted one.

I know it can be frustrating, especially if you're just straight up ghosted or rejected. To all still searching: Keep going and keep it up.

Edit: Just a small change to a word.

Recent surge in data breaches

Spinning this off the Republik-Thread.

Is it selection bias or are we experiencing a lot of these at high-profile targets in Switzerland at the moment?

If this is in fact a trend, is it world-wide? AI-related (could be both on the attacker's and the victim's side)?

Will Biel/Bienne soon have a french speaking majority?

The percentage of french speakers in Biel/Bienne has been steadily increasing in recent decades, going from about 30% a few decades ago to now close to 45%. Will this trend continue? What do you think of this situation? I remember reading that a century or two ago, some cities like Sierre in Valais/Wallis or the city of Fribourg had a german speaking majority, but now they have a french speaking majority. Will Biel/Bienne face a similar situation soon?

Did anyone manage to pre-order the Switch 2 - 40th Zelda edition in Switzerland?

Hi,

I preordered it on Digitec but they cancelled it because it was out of stock from supplier. Boo.

I don't kwow what to do now. I guess Ocarina of Time 3D is on the way but I have no Switch to play it.

I guess I'll be waiting for restock because I really want that one, but otherwise I'll get the normal Switch 2 with the replaceable battery if it's already available.

Does anyone know if it will be restocked anytime soon? Any official communication? Do you think they will keep up with the demand and it will be eventually obtainable without fight or it's dead?

Or a shop that still sells it? No scalpers or equivalent lower forms of life, of course.

What would you do?

Thank you!

Have a nice day!!!

Any english manga stores in switzerland?

While I do speak german I just don’t like reading german books or mangas. I could technically just order but I don’t want to wait that long. So are there any stores that have a lot of English manga too? I am specifically trying to find Black Butler.
Thanks in advance :>

what should i do?

Hello hello,

So m an international student (from third country) living in Switzerland since 6 years. 3 months ago, I started looking for a job and had an interview with an employer. the interview went well and I was contacted 2 weeks ago for a final on-site interview. Yesterday I received an offer. The thing is that 2 months ago, I became disabled because of an intense reactive tinnitus / hyperacusis I developed that keeps me pretty much bedbound. What should I do ? should I talk to this with the employer ? should I simply reffuse the offer meaning i would have to leave switzerland (which i cannot even take the plane because of how awful my ears hurt). I’m completely lost
