📢 Modpost Food Competition!!
Hey r/Switzerland!
It's me again, u/TheRealMudi! After our last successful event; the Photography Competition, I've returned to you with another event: Swiss Food Week!
The idea is simple: from Monday, the 12th of October to Sunday, 18th of October, we celebrate Swiss food by making it, sharing it, and voting for our favourites.
Regional specialities, family recipes, baked goods, so on. As long as it is Swiss or has cultural/social relevance to Switzerland, it is accepted!
---
How to participate
Make a photo of your dish and post it on the subreddit, you need to have [Food Week] in the title! Ideally you include the dish's name and a little about it. Recipes are very welcome!
How the competition works
- One post per person, featuring food you made and photographed yourself.
- Upvote the posts you like.
- Votes are counted on the 20th of October, 12:00.
The entry with the highest upvotes at the deadline wins eternal bragging rights and receive their unique flair: Swiss Food Champion 2026 (or another flair they might request).
I hope that many will participate, and have fun! :D

📢 Modpost How to agree to the rules and post on the subreddit
Hello all,
As you may know, we've started to use the "Read the Rules" app recently to support us in the battle against spam, advertisement and such. Accepting them is very easy, however if you don't know how to, take a look below. You find below the steps for Mobile, new and old Reddit.
Mobile (official Reddit App)
- Click on the round button with three dots in the top right of your screen.
- In the submenu click on "Read the rules" at the bottom
- Read the rules while scrolling down. Once you reach the "Acknowledgement" section, toggle the button and submit.

On third party apps, it's maybe best to use the process for old reddit in case you don't see this option.
Desktop (new Reddit)
- Click on the round button with three dots in the top right of your screen
- Click on "Read the rules"
- Read the rules while scrolling down. Once you reach the "Acknowledgement" section, toggle the button and submit.

Old reddit
For old Reddit the process changes a little, however, it is still very easy.
- Click on rules link in "Please read the rules before posting" in the sidebar to the right. This will open the rules page, read through them .
- Scroll down further, until you see the "Moderators" Section in the sidebar on the right. Click on "MESSAGE THE MODS"
- Create a Modmail. Title: "Read The Rules", Message: "Acknowledged." and send it.
This is it, you will then receive a confirmation immediately.

Please note: the process for old reddit also works on mobile and such, in case there should be an issue.
Of course we're also available via Modmail for questions.

Will Biel/Bienne soon have a french speaking majority?
The percentage of french speakers in Biel/Bienne has been steadily increasing in recent decades, going from about 30% a few decades ago to now close to 45%. Will this trend continue? What do you think of this situation? I remember reading that a century or two ago, some cities like Sierre in Valais/Wallis or the city of Fribourg had a german speaking majority, but now they have a french speaking majority. Will Biel/Bienne face a similar situation soon?

Six months of job search in Marketing
Hello all
As some others have shared it, I thought I might share my job search journey as well. I've been laid off with 2 months notice period earlier this year. I had now 4 months of unemployment.
I work in marketing. Some short context to myself: 10 years of experience in Marketing, i don't have a bachelor's or master's degree. I have a Federal Diploma of Higher Education which can also be called "Professional Bachelor" as of this month.
What I did:
- I created a CV and letter that was visually appealing while remaining ATS-friendly. I also tailored these documents to every single position I applied for.
- I prepared very well for the interviews. I researched the companies, their products, their marketing activities and the people I would be speaking with. I think that paid off, as I advanced from the first to the second round in almost 93% of the cases.
- For myself, quality was more important than quantity. I understand, in some sectors such as tech this might not be viable. For me however, I didn't send out hundreds of applications, but tried to make each one I sent out count.
For context: This wasn't in Zurich.
In the end, I received three job offers, turned down two and accepted one.
I know it can be frustrating, especially if you're just straight up ghosted or rejected. To all still searching: Keep going and keep it up.
Edit: Just a small change to a word.

Recent surge in data breaches
Spinning this off the Republik-Thread.
Is it selection bias or are we experiencing a lot of these at high-profile targets in Switzerland at the moment?

Did anyone manage to pre-order the Switch 2 - 40th Zelda edition in Switzerland?
Hi,
I preordered it on Digitec but they cancelled it because it was out of stock from supplier. Boo.
I don't kwow what to do now. I guess Ocarina of Time 3D is on the way but I have no Switch to play it.
I guess I'll be waiting for restock because I really want that one, but otherwise I'll get the normal Switch 2 with the replaceable battery if it's already available.
Does anyone know if it will be restocked anytime soon? Any official communication? Do you think they will keep up with the demand and it will be eventually obtainable without fight or it's dead?
Or a shop that still sells it? No scalpers or equivalent lower forms of life, of course.
What would you do?
Thank you!
Have a nice day!!!

Any english manga stores in switzerland?
While I do speak german I just don’t like reading german books or mangas. I could technically just order but I don’t want to wait that long. So are there any stores that have a lot of English manga too? I am specifically trying to find Black Butler.
Thanks in advance :>

Just paid 5.50.- CHF for 50 Tablets of Ibuprofen in Jestetten, meanwhile in Switzerland...
I don't take ibuprofen often but I like to have it in stock and I do not like to be ripped off!
In Switzerland the cheapest ibuprofen you can buy is 8.50 chf and you also need prescription if you want more than just 10 pills or higher than 400mg.
I went to Germany in Jestetten today to buy some melatonin for my boyfriend (you need prescription for melatonin here, that's insane!!) And I figured huh since I'm here I might aswell get myself some ibuprofen while I'm here, expecting to also buy 10 tablets but at least for some cheaper price.
First thing a pharmacist asked me is "Do you want 20 or 50 tablets?" and I said "What?... What? Really? You can sell me that?" And she said "Uhh... yeah..? 🤨" then I said "Okay well how much is 50?"
"5,97€" she said.
I cannot express how angry and confused I was when I realised how much money I threw out buying expensive ibuprofen in Switzerland all this time. Why? Just why? And make melatonin available in stores for gods sake. It's a supplement, not a drug!
From today I am NEVER buying anything at the pharmacy here in Zürich, whatever I need I will go stock up in Germany, out of spite.

https://bvger.weblaw.ch/pdf/B-3186-2024_2026-09-21_dcd73752-4fb4-4402-ba39-eaca892b3498.pdf
a. den vollständig entbündelten Zugang zum Teilnehmeranschluss zur Nutzung von dessen gesamter Übertragungskapazität zu gewähren;
- September 2018:
Nationalrat streicht Art. 11c aus dem Gesetz (127 zu 57).
- November 2018:
Ständerat streicht den Artikel ebenfalls (22 zu 19).
- März 2019:
Gesetz wird verabschieded.
Februar 2020:
Swisscom verkündet, sie stellen auf P2MP um.
- Januar 2021:
Gesetz tritt in Kraft.
Tolle "Glasfaser" mit maximal 500Mbit up and down. Ein absolut schlechter Witz. Ich freu mich auf Monopolisten-Glasfaser in Müllqualität.
Danke Parlament, danke Swisscom.

Republik (The News Organization) got hacked via Supply Chain attack
Just got this email from them...
Unfortunate. Even more so because they didn't update since August? I suspect it's probably the same thing as with Framework Laptop where they got breached.
Metabase updated the cloud deployments and selfhosted users ofc have to do it themselves as they described in their blogpost.
For anyone who doesn't know yet: This newspaper is goated. They questioned what Palantir was doing in Zurich and Palantir wanted to censor them.

Food Week: I made Würstli
Don't have much to say. Some grilled sausages with tomatoes, onions and cucumber. I think that's swiss enough for a lazy dinner, but I doubt it'll be better than the riz casimir guy lol

what should i do?
Hello hello,
So m an international student (from third country) living in Switzerland since 6 years. 3 months ago, I started looking for a job and had an interview with an employer. the interview went well and I was contacted 2 weeks ago for a final on-site interview. Yesterday I received an offer. The thing is that 2 months ago, I became disabled because of an intense reactive tinnitus / hyperacusis I developed that keeps me pretty much bedbound. What should I do ? should I talk to this with the employer ? should I simply reffuse the offer meaning i would have to leave switzerland (which i cannot even take the plane because of how awful my ears hurt). I’m completely lost

Food Competition
I try to do my part in community.
As I was cooking some time in a Kids camp and we as chefs allways tried to create over-the-top-not-normal-camp-food, I searched for the best Picture I can find.
Who would have thought that it will be a "Riis-Casimir" we cooked for the kids when they were on a hike.
We as the kitchen crew, drove to somewhere along their hiking trail and cooked everything open air to serve the kids. No sloppy sandwiches or whatever unhealthy snack.
Instead they got a nice Riis Casimir and we got an awesome view and a lot of happy kids.
(I actually don't really like Riis Casimir, but still it is a childhood memory, every swiss-kid should have.)

Talk me out of switching my health insurance (again)
So it's that time of the year again where you get emails like this: "Im Oktober erhalten Sie Ihre persönliche Police für 2027. Eines zeigt sich schon jetzt: Die Kosten für Arzt- und Spitalbehandlungen, Medikamente, Therapien etc. sind weiter gestiegen. Deshalb ist auch mit höheren Prämien zu rechnen."
(insert suprised pikachu face)
As every year I compare my premiums and as almost every year I can save money by switching to a different insurer. This year it would be a total of 156.- for me and my wife. I'm trying to find a reason to not do it since it is kind of annoying and leads to more paperwork. On the other hand it seems dumb to not save 156.- for no reason. Any thoughts?
I've switched twice in the last 4 years, although savings were much higher the last two years.

You asked where to download the 1:1 Switzerland in Minecraft. The first part is out: the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO area, free to play.
Thanks for all the comments on my last post. Many of you wanted to walk around your own valley or summit, so here is a first region to try: the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch, from Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen across the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau down the Aletsch Glacier to the Lötschental.
It's built from swisstopo's open geodata, one block per metre, so every place on the national map is exactly where it is in reality. On the website you can click on the map and get the teleport command for that spot.
Free download, no sign-up. All of Switzerland follows later.
