McGill first year help
Hey I really really need help. It’s my first year at McGill, and I’m struggling super badly. I’m taking Canadian lit, philosophy 306, French beginners, English departmental survey, and sociology family and Modern society. I’ve made horrible careless mistakes since I’ve been here. For two readings for English, I didn’t fully read syllabus and its notes on how to differ between Norton anthologies and I read from the wrong book for 2 days and had to catch up 15hrs. I misread papers in philosophy and would read wrong article and need to catch up. But I always did, until thanksgiving break. I was working on my philosophy paper, and after I’d write some, I’d ask AI to verify if I was following instructions and if my argument had weaknsss. I like to do my work myself, I think it’s important, but I went down on spiral of ai as it found every defect because of course it would, philosophy can always be argued against. This took up all my reading week. Then I had 3 midterms, so I missed two readings from philosophy and English. I think I did fine on sociology and Canadian lit. I studied several hours—hell, more, for English and stayed up till 2-3am multiple times. Exam comes, I’m doing okay. Then I misread short essay. It says short essay and in brackets one page paragraph. Half exam is questions, half essay. Halfway through essay, I realize my mistake and quickly scramble a short paragraph to condense my prompt. I explain to my professor and she tells me it’s fine I write more, “you didn’t die”. My errors have led me to severe mental breakdowns, hyperventilating, shaking-ish, sick to eat, calling parents crying. I even found out my brain was on autopilot for two months and I’d been using highschool id instead of McGill! What the fuck! Luckily the problem was quickly solved.
I believe im at a b in sociology and a b- in French, but i have a test im unprepared for Monday .i dont know if i should drop out of French or English. I am behind a week in English and philosophy readings because of midterms. Im worried I’ll fail out of school. I also feel like im dying sometimes. I need help. I dont know what to do. I feel like im dying because of school and it sucks because McGill has so many cool people and nice environment, and this all could’ve been fine if I’d never made stupid errors and didn’t spiral over break and divided my time and didn’t use ai. Please help me. I’m really scared about myself. I don’t want to drop a course, I want to graduate on time, but I feel like I might have to. I’m getting depressed again and visited wellness.

How to start as project as a student?
Hey I want to start doing a project as a side quest in college ( mechanical engineering student in India, tier 3 college btw ) and I don't know how and where to begin. For example consider I am building a drone I don't have the money to buy components to test them. And if I am doing something new without much data available how should I start
And is there some way to get sponsorship if I am able to convince the concerned people that I am serious.

Help with a short UX research survey! 📝
Hi everyone! I'm conducting a UX research study for an academic assignment to understand people's experiences, challenges, and expectations regarding laundry and ironing services.
I'm looking for people who have used laundry services, particularly students living in hostels or PGs, as well as people who run independent laundry services.

I built a free, zero-login app to track college attendance & calculate safe bunks offline ( looking for student feedback!)
Hey everyone!
Like many college students, I got tired of manually calculating whether I was safe from attendance thresholds or how many classes I could skip before running into trouble.
So I built Attendly—a lightweight web app that lets you:
- Track class attendance easily
- Calculate safe bunks automatically
- Work offline directly from your phone's and desktop home screen without creating an account or typing passwords
It’s 100% free to use. I’m an indie student maker trying to see if this is actually useful for other students around the world.
🔗 Try the Live App here: https://attendly-3.vercel.app/
📝 Drop your honest feedback/reviews here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdgJnI612HSjCUNdZfaN1SP3jlPvviy0LiwVt26DBRZNsDUrw/viewform?usp=sf_link
I’d really appreciate any brutal feedback on what feels broken, what features are missing, or how to make it better! Thanks!

I want a start a dinosaur club but I've been said ''no one is intrested''? so is it worth giving a try?
I have ideas for movie days, donation fund events (which I want to do, though I have no clue how), discussions, debates, and even going to museums (which is the hardest thing with funding and getting people). I'm a film major, and the only history clubs are medieval and archaeology. I don't have a lot of friends, and there is no one I know who has the same passions. I have not pitched yet. I know starting a club is mostly about running a social media account, paperwork, club fairs, and petitions.
i want to introduce people to this amazing world, show them what it means. Dinosaurs have influenced our culture, our science, in so many ways, to be able to explore that even a little would be fantastic.
i am no expert on smart science, just a film guy

In an interconnected global economy, can the consequences of sanctions truly be confined to their intended targets? Unilateral sanctions and financial restrictions are used for foreign policy, yet their effects extends beyond the countries they target, disrupting trade, financial transactions, and the supply chains. The G20's task is to keep sanctions effective without putting global economic stability at risk.
Australia applies both UN Security Council sanctions and its own sanctions, under domestic law. The Autonomous Sanctions Act 2011 is the legal basis for the latter. According to the Australian Sanctions Office's 2025 Annual Report, Australia imposed 428 new autonomous sanctions in 2025. We also issued three sanctions covering 200 vessels linked to Russia's so-called shadow fleet. Together with partner countries, we helped lower the price cap on Russian crude oil to US$47.60 per barrel in 2025. The aim was to cut into Russia's oil revenue without disrupting global oil supply.
The spillovers are real, and they show why countries need to work together. In July 2022, World Bank researchers found that export restrictions pushed up the prices of wheat, rice and soybean oil by roughly 9% or more. The World Bank also reported that in 2022, close to 60% of oil-importing, emerging and developing economies saw the price of oil rise in their own currencies. These findings are economic shocks and trade restrictions also, not sanctions only. Even so, they show how quickly the problum hits the vulnerable economies. The scale of the system matters too: the Bank for International Settlements reported average daily foreign exchange turnover of about US$9.6 trillion in April 2025, so even small disruptions financial flows can travel far.
To address this, Australia proposes that the G20 to develop a framework for assessing the economic impact of sanctions, both before they are introduced and after. Member states should share information on problems they see in trade, banking and supply chains, without compromising national security. We also propose clear guidelines for banks and companies, so that legitimate and lawful business isn't caught up in sanctions by mistake.
In conclusion, Australia believes international cooperation is the best way to limit the unintended economic effects of unilateral sanctions. By communicating better, strengthening financial stability and protecting humanitarian needs, the G20 can make sure sanctions reach their goals without putting needless pressure on vulnerable economies. We encourage all member states to work toward an approach that is fair, responsible and balanced, and that supports both international security and global economic stability.

I built a study planner that shows planned vs actual study time
One thing I've noticed about planning study sessions is that it's easy to write down "study for 2 hours" and feel like you've planned a productive day.
But at the end of the day, did you actually study for those 2 hours? Did the topic take longer than expected? Did you move it to tomorrow? And does that keep happening every week?
That was part of the reason I started building a planner for myself a few months ago.
It's called Personal Planner, and the main idea is pretty simple: I wanted to keep track of what I planned, what I actually did, and what I could learn from it later.
Here's how it works:
- Hour-by-hour planning: You can create study blocks on a timeline, drag them around, resize them and plan your day without juggling multiple lists.
- Planned vs actual time: Start a timer for a study session, and the app keeps the actual time separately from what you originally planned. So if a 90-minute session takes 2 hours, you can see that.
- Daily and weekly reviews: Look back at what you completed, what got postponed and why. You can add notes rather than just marking everything done or missed.
- Consistency tracking: There's a year-long GitHub-style heatmap that helps you see your routine over time.
- Experiments: This is one of my favourite parts. Say you want to try studying for 60 minutes every weekday for a month. You can set that as an experiment, tag your study sessions, and see how much you actually did against your target.
- Inbox: Somewhere to keep assignments, ideas or topics you want to work on later without forcing everything into today's schedule.
The app works offline, so you don't need a constant internet connection just to plan or track your sessions.
It's free, with no subscription or locked features. I initially built it for myself, but I thought it might also be useful to students who time-block their days or struggle to stay consistent.
It's available on Android, and I've also been building it for desktop.
GitHub source code: https://github.com/Karthikshabari/PersonalPlanner
Download: https://github.com/Karthikshabari/PersonalPlanner/releases/tag/v1.1
I'll attach a short demo showing how the Day view and timer work.
I'm curious: when you plan a study session, do you normally track how long it actually takes, or do you just move on once it's done?
I'd love to hear how other people handle that.
