I’m starting Way of Kings right and for some reason I just can’t seem to get into it? Can someone tell me if/when it gets good, or what to look out for (obv avoiding spoilers). The first Sanderson book I picked up was Final Empire, and in the month since then I’ve gone through both Mistborn eras, secret history, Tress, and Warbreaker. In all of those books, save maybe Tress, I got hooked pretty quickly. Obviously Mistborn and its associated work is all pretty incredible, so I figured I would indulge in Sando’s other flagship series. I just finished Warbreaker (as I was recommended to prior to starting Stormlight Archives), and I absolutely loved that book. It, like the Mistborn series, got me hooked almost instantly, and of course finished well. The thing with WoK however, is that I feel overwhelmed and not super entertained. There was a prelude, and then a prologue, and still each page feels like it’s introducing a million new concepts, people and creatures, while I’m still trying to catch up. In the 5 or so chapters I’ve read so far (around 100ish pages) I haven’t really had a reason to keep going, other than pure intrigue as to why people say Stormlight is so good. I know I haven’t made it super far, considering the book is a thousand pages, but every page I read it feels more and more like I’m missing a book or novella that should’ve came before this, and I get even more confused. The most interesting thing so far I guess is Kaladin’s character, but even with him it feels like I’m missing a lot. Idk man, it just feels like there are a bunch of things being thrown at me, and none of it really makes sense. At least in the other books I had a few core ideas to build on and then it expanded from there. In this it feels like I’m constantly getting introduced to new things that serve no purpose 2 or 3 pages later
TLDR: when does WoK/StormlighT Archive pick up, and what should I expect out of it?
