Photos First stinkhorn I have ever fruited in a bin!
Photos 1-5: the P. fusiformis fruited
Photo 6: the origin colony
Photo 7: the other P. fusiformis morph I located
I took substrate from mulch that had a single Pseudocolus fusiformis with eggs all around it.
Over the first few days of hatching the eggs, I found that all of them were Satyrus rugulosus. This was back at the time when I only had Satyrus rugulosus and Phallus ravenelii. I put the substrate in a bin, put wood chips and left it.
I noticed some eggs growing in it weeks later and thought it was S. rugulosus.
As the egg grew I noticed something very strange about the egg that had me on the fence whether it was actually S. rugulosus or if P. fusiformis somehow had wrestled back the substrate and was now fruiting.
The egg had a brown, leather skin-like appearance unlike ordinary S. rugulosus eggs. I had assumed it was at an early stage of development and that was the gleba layer forming.
This morning I came and saw in the fogged bin walls that there was something orange. i opened the bin and here we are.
During the time it was growing before I noticed it. I looked and located some more Pseudocolus fusiformis and established them. The morph i found was a bit different. It was more yellowish and less orange than this morph.
Well here we have it, another interesting development in my stinkhorn journey! I will continue posting about stinkhorns and we will see where it goes from here!
Thank you so much for reading this and I hope you have a great day!
