Discussion Steam Frame Purchases, Reservations & Shipping Megathread (October 2026)
Welcome to the new Steam Frame Purchases, Reservations & Shipping Megathread!
Our previous megathread accumulated thousands of comments and became increasingly difficult to navigate, so we’re starting fresh.
This thread is the dedicated place to discuss everything related to purchasing and receiving your Steam Frame, including:
- Reservations & Waitlists: Reservation status, queue movements, regional availability and estimated delivery dates.
- Orders & Purchases: Order confirmations, payment issues, cancellations and general purchasing questions.
- Shipping & Deliveries: Dispatch notifications, tracking updates, customs and delivery experiences.
- 2027 Availability: Questions, speculation and discussion about future availability, production and restocks.
- New Owners: Share your excitement, delivery experiences and first impressions once your Frame arrives.
We’ve seen a significant increase in repetitive posts covering the same topics, particularly reservation movements, delivery updates and questions about 2027 availability. We understand everyone’s excitement (and frustration) but these posts can quickly overwhelm the sub and bury other interesting content.
Going forward, individual posts covering routine reservation updates, shipping notifications, order confirmations and general availability questions may be removed and redirected here.
For the latest Steam Frame news, reviews and community updates, visit Steam Frame Hub.
You can also chat in real time on our Discord server.

Question Steam just closed my ticket after TWO shipments went missing
I was lucky enough to order my 256GB Steam Frame Kit in Germany during the first wave, but I still haven't received anything.
Honestly, I don't know what to do next.
My first shipment was marked as delivered by GLS, but I never received it. The name listed as the person who received the package wasn't even correct (lots of spelling errors).
After contacting Steam Support, they agreed to send me a replacement. Before they shipped it, I explicitly warned them that I'd had problems with DPD and GLS in the past, with drivers leaving packages unattended in the hallway even though I'd never given permission for that (which is required for unattended delivery in Germany).
I asked if they could use DHL instead, but Steam Support told me they couldn't change the carrier and shipped the replacement via GLS anyway.
GLS marked the replacement as delivered too, but even though I was home the entire day, nobody rang the bell or handed me a package.
I checked with all my neighbours, and none of them received it either. I also contacted GLS directly, but they told me there was nothing they could do on my end and that Steam would need to initiate an investigation.
Steam's final response was that GLS had confirmed successful delivery, so they wouldn't offer another replacement or a refund. They then closed my support ticket.
What frustrates me the most is that I specifically warned Steam about this exact problem before they shipped the replacement. And so far, I haven't been shown a signature, delivery photo, or any other evidence that the package was actually handed over to me or one of my neighbours.
As far as I understand German consumer law, the seller is responsible for the package until it's properly delivered to the buyer.
Steam suggested contacting my payment provider, PayPal. The problem is that I've had my Steam account for years and own over 1,000 games. I'm worried that opening a payment dispute could get my account restricted, which is the last thing I want.
I do appreciate that Steam initially tried to help by sending a replacement. But being left without either the headset or my €1,000+ after two failed deliveries is incredibly frustrating.
Has anyone here experienced something similar with Steam hardware orders?
Is there any way to escalate a closed Steam Support ticket or get someone to actually look into the delivery evidence?
I'd much rather sort this out directly with Valve than have to go through PayPal or take legal action.
TL;DR: Bought a 256GB Steam Frame Kit for over €1,000. GLS marked it as delivered, but I never got it. Valve sent a replacement through GLS despite me warning them about previous delivery issues. That package also went missing. Steam now refuses a refund or another replacement and closed my ticket. Looking for advice on how to escalate this without risking my Steam account.

Discussion Found a compact and cheap USB-C dongle that works well
Here's the link (no affiliate) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FQ5MGG51
I used this for 8 hours yesterday while charging, never got warm and the 2.4Ghz dongle for the keyboard had no issues.
Someone on Discord mentioned that this one, https://www.amazon.com/BUISAMG-USB-HUB-Laptop-MacBook/dp/B0GQT9FNBY, which I originally intended to purchase, has flaky performance.
This one was also suggested as working but is $40 in exchange for more ports: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHBFDFWC
I've also tested this one as working if you want a 3.5mm jack for headphones:

Software I made an app that toggles passthrough when you knock twice
Double pressing the Steam button for passthrough with long nails is annoying, so I made KnockThru! Knock twice and passthrough turns on or off. Knock 3 times to switch between translucent and opaque.
It's meant as an accessibility thing, so if hitting that small button twice is hard for you for whatever reason, give it a try :)
You can knock the controllers together, on a table, or on the headset. It adds a tab to the SteamVR dashboard where you can turn each one off, calibrate if your knocks are soft, and turn knocks off for a specific game if it keeps going off. Updates and bug reports work from inside the headset too.
To install you need Developer Mode and CEF Remote Debugging on (it uses that to press the Room View button), then use the FrameDrop button, Frameloader, or the one line command in Konsole. Instructions: https://github.com/VioletTides/KnockThru#install
I played some HL Alyx, Beat Saber, and Into the Radius 2 with it running and it never toggled by accident. If it misfires for you or knocking doesn't work for you, make an issue: https://github.com/VioletTides/KnockThru/issues
It's free and open source, and I used coding agents to help build it. Hope it helps someone!

Discussion I come bearing news
I have come to bid many of you sooners goodbye as I have moved on to greener pastures. I have gone on to join a new group of sooners. My 256GB purchase email arrived this morning (Australia) and I have confirmed my purchase. It is now a question of how soon my frame arrives.
It has been a pleasure sooning with you all.

Accessories I heard ya'll like orange boxes...
Unfortunately I'm still on the reservation list so the box is empty.
Edit: The case is an Apache 3800 from Harbor Freight inspired by whoever posted one a few weeks ago. Name card and logo are 3D printed. I swapped the orange latches from a black Apache case to this one.

Discussion My reservation got turned into a purchase today!
I got a reservation back at launch a month ago. I didn't hear anything until Valve updated it to show the estimated date. I checked the date, it said between now and January 31st 2027. I checked a few days later, it said between now and December 30th 2026. Now today 17/10/26 I got my purchase email. I'm very excited.

Hardware PSA: You have to wear the headset higher on your face than you might expect.
I have read many issues on this sub and some might be because people wear the headset too low. Like the lenses sitting to close to the nose, bad edge clarity, distortions during movements... Intuitively I wore the headset lower on my face just like my Quest 3, but you actually have to wear it slightly higher.
Quick test:
Is the edge clarity similar at the bottom and top? If you see everything clear on the bottom but you have edge distortions on the top, you are wearing it to low.

Hardware 3D Printed Charging Stand for Steam Frame - Any Feedback?
After way to many iterations, I finished my charging stand for the Steam Frame. I actually started this before the CAD files were released and used a 3D scan of my frame. I printed it in orange because what else would I do?
It's designed with a magnetic USB-c adapter (that supports the full so the frame starts charging as soon as I drop it in the stand. I added clearance for the ergo grips, but I can't test the fit yet since I don't have them. It also mounts to the wall for those that want that.
This is my first big 3D printing project I made myself. To anyone who has the ergo grips, do you think the controllers would fit? Any other feedback is welcome.

Question How did you pack the frame when you had to send them back?
A question for those who had to return the frame via RMA: how did you pack it and how did you attach the 7 pages outside the package?
Unfortunately, I don't have a location with agents near me, so I have nowhere to ask.

Question What games have you been playing standalone?
I've been having an absolute blast with some flat games like fallout new Vegas and command and conquer remastered. What games have you been enjoying? Can be flat or VR, just genuinely curious what people are playing.

Accessories DIY Mission: Rebuilding the Ergo Kit (Head/Hand Straps/Light Blocker)
So, the Ergo Kit was out of stock, and initially, I didn’t intend to buy it anyway. That meant I had 60 euros to spend on a DIY Ergo Kit. I was inspired by the great ideas in this sub and decided to try some solutions myself, so here’s what I came up with!
Preface: You don’t need a 3D printer for any of this, as I don’t own one myself.
Hand Straps
I bought two of those universal camera hand straps, hoping they’d fit, and wow, I’m so proud of how they turned out! I like my straps big and soft, and these are exactly what I was looking for.
Since I never throw anything away, I had two thicker rubber bands lying around that I could use to fasten the camera strap ribbons to the controllers. They fit nicely and look quite professional, IMO.
Actually, I struggled a little with drilling holes in a brand-new piece of hardware. But on second thought, I’ll never sell my Frame anyway, and in a few months, everything should be available from third-party sellers anyway.
For the upper attachment, I drilled a hole through the battery cover (a 2 mm drill bit is enough). You have to be careful when positioning the hole because there needs to be some space between it and the controller itself; otherwise, the cover won’t close properly.
Luckily, there’s some empty space right beneath the top edge where the knots can sit. I tied two knots in the rubber band and squeezed it through the hole, creating a nice fastening loop on the upper side that the camera strap can slide through.
At first, I thought the bracket on top would get annoying when using the controllers, but it turns out to be a great place to rest your thumb when you’re not using them.
Price of camera straps: 7 euros
Head Strap
Nothing that hasn’t already been posted on this sub, tbh. I bought a pair of kids’ suspenders and sewed lots of Velcro onto them.
I like the idea of being able to adjust all sides because I can easily apply pressure to either side of my head until everything feels comfortable and the weight is evenly distributed.
I’m not great at sewing, so please excuse my wonky stitching!
For the front holder, I simply bent some wire until it fit nicely.
Price of suspenders: 7 euros
Price of Velcro: 6 euros
Light Blocker
For the extended nose bridge, I bought a set of replacement helmet pads and found one that fit really well. I trimmed the corners just a little to maintain the softness and sewed the cut edges shut (probably not necessary, but it should help the pad last a little longer).
I used five of those tiny adhesive pads, attaching three to the original nose bridge and two on either side of the lenses. Then I simply positioned the pad correctly, and voilà: no more light leaking through!
Price of helmet pads: 6 euros
Total Cost of the DIY Ergo Kit: 26 euros
That’s less than half of what I would have paid for the original kit, and I’m really happy with how everything turned out. The hand straps, in particular, feel incredibly soft!
Some credits left, so I went ahead and ordered some other useful accessories for my Frames:
- Case: 16 euros
- 5 m USB-C cable: 13 euros
- Two rechargeable Eneloop Ni-MH batteries: 5 euros
Total cost for all accessories: 60 euros
Bullseye!
Thanks for reading, and keep DIYing!

Software Just started playing around with stand-alone...
This thing really is cool, at least for us filthy casuals. Running stand-alone Against the Storm, with a Youtube fullscreen Chrome window at the top right.
FWIW, worst thing I can say about mine is that I've been having wireless adapter hiccups too. Just installed the 0.4.5 update, so hopefully things improve. Fortunately, my regular Wi-Fi connection is stable and fast enough that I haven't noticed too many PCVR glitches.
* edit *
The context menu over the game window is from me trying to figure out how to save the picture out of the Steam Content screen - it doesn't appear in VR.

Discussion Thoughts After Three Weeks Of Use
I was pretty worried when I saw a bunch of negative reviews on here. But my experience so far has been great! Not perfect! But great 😅
Background: I love VR and AR. I have the original Vive, the Cosmos, a Valve Index, two Quest 2s, a Quest 3, an Apple Vision Pro, and now a Steam Frame. The Valve Index is by far my most used device (for gaming), followed by the AVP for media (I’d love to use AVP for work but the device is not comfortable enough for long periods, which is a shame).
The Steam Frame will likely supplant the Index as my most used VR/AR device.
What I love:
- The form factor and weight are amazing!!! The device is the most comfortable one that I own. I absolutely love that I can wear the headset and it doesn’t touch my hair. The controllers took some getting used to. I think I still prefer the knuckle controllers. But these ones are growing on me. Note that I use the ergonomic kit for the controllers but I haven’t yet bothered to try the strap that the kit provides for the headset.
- Streaming to the headset is excellent!! This is the feature I was most excited about and I feel like Valve nailed it!!
Good:
- Visuals feel on par with my Quest 3 but not as crisp as my AVP. This is a noticeable upgrade from the Index. FOV feels slightly better than my Quest 3 but worse than the Index.
- Playing standalone felt pretty good. I don’t ever do this but tried it out for 30 mins to check it out.
Not so good:
- The battery life isn’t great. I end up putting a power bank in my pocket and playing with the headset plugged into that. This doesn’t bother me much. But it is noticeable so I wanted to call it out.
- The passthrough, even with the color camera add-on, is not great. Better than nothing. But pales in comparison to AVP and is slightly worse than my Quest 3. I don’t use this device for AR or passthrough, so this has no impact on my experience. But people who value excellent passthrough like the AVP provides will be disappointed.
- The sound isn’t great. This is the “not so good” so far that impacts me. I’m going to need to wear headphones with this device.
All in all, I love the device and it is an excellent fit for my needs.
Btw, this is one of my first posts 😅 I usually just read what others write on here.

Discussion Anyone else notice the video compression?
TLDR: I can notice the compression artifacts in every game I play. It's particularly noticeable in higher fidelity games. Am I just super sensitive to this kinda thing or is something wrong with my software/headset?
I got my steam frame about a week ago and I've had a ton of fun with it, but whenever I stream from my PC I get a ton of compression artifacts on almost every game I play, it's especially bad on games that have high resolution textures, dynamic lighting basically anything that would typically strain video compression, but I even noticed it on games like Forefront.
The games are super clear if I play them on the frame itself besides the lower resolution.
The only headsets I've owned and used are the OG Vive and Reverb G2. Both are HDMI/DP headsets so I've always had crystal clear visuals (well as clear as a Vive can be lol). I've used a Quest 2 maybe 1 time at a buddie's house a few years ago.
I turned on the debug setting that highlights where you're looking and the eye tracking is definitely working. I can also catch the compression for a split second if I flick my eye quickly over to some text or something.
I've tried multi link and single link over both the dongle or my Wifi 6 router. If I do multilink it tends to prefer my router over the dongle. I have an ethernet cable connecting my PC and router.
I've tried cranking the streaming bitrate and resolution up in the steam link settings. My ping usually sits anywhere from 5-15ms. My packet loss is usually 0%, but sometimes jumps up a bit.
I've turned the Target Bandwidth and Encoded Video Size up to max, left it on auto, doesn't really make a difference unless turn them both all the way down.
I'm running my resolution scale at 150% in most games. About 2660x2660 or so.
I've tried both Beta and Stable branches on my PC's Steam, Steam VR, and my Frames Steam. I'm currently on the Beta for everything.
Like I said I've never used a headset that streams wirelessly so I don't know if this is just how streaming on the Frame should look, or if I have an issue. If this is just how it looks then I'm honestly really disappointed because everyone was saying that you couldn't even see the compression. This honestly kind of ruins the headset for me :/ I really want to keep it but man this is
a big downside for me.
My buddy got a Frame as well and he said he can't notice it. Unfortunately, we live far away from each other now so I can't just go test his out really quick. I really just don't know if it's a me thing or a hardware/software issue.
I attached some images taken on my headset and transferred to my phone, then to my PC via local send. I have some red arrows pointing to where I'm looking.
Any help or input is appreciated, thanks!
