❓ Question Is Starlink good for gaming and streaming?

I’m considering getting Starlink because my only internet option is satellite internet with around 30 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload, but it’s unstable and too laggy for streaming.

Would Starlink be reliable enough to stream on Kick while playing online games? Is it worth the money? I’d appreciate real experiences from Starlink users. Thanks!

❓ Question Starlink Mini

Hello, I understand from previous posts here that the Starlink mini may brick if it's left offline for too long.

I am U.S. based. My work sometimes brings me to austere places (which is why I have it), and then I also use it for camping and tailgating at football games. My current plan is Roam 100GB.

I'm about to travel outside the US for a few months to a place where I can't bring my Starlink mini with me. Rather than putting it in standby mode, I'm planning on leaving it with a friend that will get some good use from it. That brings me to a few questions:

- Can he also download the app and login using my credentials?

- If he sets it up at his house, is there any risk of it being designated "residential" for being in one place for too long (such as 4-6 months duration). If so, what is the risk/concern?

Thanks in advance!

❓ Question suggestion for true global phone

Is there a way for Starlink to come up with a true global mobile plan?

I travel as a missionary and spend time in different countries. I would love to have one Starlink mobile plan that works across countries without needing to change SIM cards, purchase local plans, or deal with complicated international roaming arrangements.

Such a service would be extremely valuable to international travelers, missionaries, businesspeople, and anyone who regularly moves between countries.

I believe a simple, reliable global phone plan could be an exciting next step for Starlink.

Customer would not have to do anything as they travel.  Starlink does the work behind the scenes as customers move from country to country.

📶 Starlink Speed Starling giving me giving me 150-900ping despite normal speed tests.

I’ve had Starlink for around a month or two and I’m on one of the more expensive packages.
I was already having connection problems, so last Friday someone came out to supposedly “fix” it. It clearly isn’t fixed.
My Starlink speed test can show 111 Mbps download, 18 Mbps upload and 22ms latency, which looks completely normal.
But when gaming, especially Fortnite, my ping randomly spikes to around 400–900ms, sometimes with packet loss as well. Earlier Fortnite showed 469ms ping, 2% download packet loss and 7% upload packet loss.
Normally I’d expect roughly 30–35ms on the Europe servers.
That’s what I don’t understand. The Starlink test can say 22ms while the actual connection during gaming becomes completely unusable.
Considering I’m paying for one of the more expensive packages and already had someone come out to “fix” it last Friday, this is getting ridiculous.
Has anyone had this issue with Starlink? What should I be checking to figure out what’s causing these massive spikes?

📰 News Elon Musk's SpaceX Gets US Contract to Expand Ukraine’s Access to Starshield (2024)

Article from 2024. Many people on this subreddit seem unaware of or are deliberately spreading capricious lies that Ukraine did not have nor ever had access to Starshield, the military version of Starlink which SpaceX describes as "Secured satellite network for government entities".

From the article:

"The contract means that 2,500 Starlink terminals already in Ukraine will get access to Starshield, a classified and encrypted signal over Starlink that’s more difficult to hack into or jam. That number is in addition to the 500 that were previously connected to Starshield.

“A total of 3,000 terminals are provided service via the two contracts,” according to a statement to Bloomberg News from the Space Systems Command’s Commercial Satellite Office. The contracts share a common purpose “to facilitate internet connectivity in Ukraine,” it said. “Both provide service into 2025.”

Ukraine has access to both Starshield and Starlink.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/22/us/politics/starshield-outage-ukraine-musk-trump.html

While Ukraine uses both Starlink and Starshield for internet connection on the battlefield, its leaders say that Starshield is particularly vital because it offers clearer communication at faster speeds than Starlink, along with higher security.

Furthermore, Starshield is not a completely separate network from Starlink, despite having some of its own satellites. The U.S. Space Force has confirmed that Starshield operates over the broader Starlink network:

“The Space Systems Command Commercial SATCOM Communications Office procures Starshield Global Access services over the Starlink Satellites/network,” a spokesperson for Space Systems Command told FedScoop.

Also, see this:

Who controls the Starshield accounts that Ukraine is using?

The U.S. government owns the physical Starshield satellite constellation that SpaceX operates, but that isn’t the infrastructure that Ukrainian forces are using. Troops there use a kind of “Starshield as a service”—infrastructure owned and controlled by SpaceX.

❓ Question Anyone here use Starlink for work or business? Curious about your experience

I'm interested in learning more about how Starlink is being used outside of the typical residential setting and figured this would be a good place to ask.

If you use Starlink for work or your business, I'd be curious to hear a little about what you do, how you're using it, and what you were using before. Has it genuinely made a difference, or is it mostly just a better option than what was available to you?

I'm also interested in the other side of it. How reliable has it been? Any issues or things that have disappointed you? And if a comparable fiber, cable, or cellular option were available at a similar price, would you stick with Starlink?

Especially interested in hearing from people in industries like aviation, transportation, agriculture, construction, retail, logistics, or anyone operating in remote areas, but open to any firsthand experiences.

Would appreciate any insight. Thanks!

💬 Discussion 1 year into starlink, good internet but wow the equipment is awful

As the title says.. I’ve had 2 satellite dish just randomly stop working, took 1 month for both replacements. Now my router just randomly stopped working, it’s going on 1 month for a replacement for that as well. It sucks cause I get great speeds and happy with the product but it’s always breaking down. Has this happened to anyone else? I pretty much rv full time cause of work, anybody know of any alternatives?

📦 Starlink Kit Starlink kit activeren lukt niet.

Goedemorgen,

❓ Question About to cancel Starlink for TMobile 5g internet

• Upvotes

Just curious of any other thoughts. I have TM 5g now at my main residence and at my student child’s rental in Colorado. It has been great and cheap.
I have Starlink at my lake house in a highly rural area as I had no other option originally than HughesNet (terrible) I was an early Starlink customer and only real complaint is frequent outages in heavy rain (Texas gulf coast).

I noticed last week that Tmobile 5g upgraded near me. Download speed over 1500 mbps on phone and now about 1000 Mbps in 2 week trial via router.

Starlink speeds have degraded some over 3 1/2 yrs of usage. I sometimes get over 400 Mbps still but usually around 200 Mbps. Starlink has raised monthly cost over time from $105 to now $130. Tmobile cost expected for their middle tier around $60.

I expect to change as this will pay back Starlink hardware in about 6-7 months and be more than half cost going forward.

Any others see similar reason to cancel Starlink?

📶 Starlink Speed Can the Starlink Mini only be used with the Residential 100 Mbps plan in Germany?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the helpful replies! I ordered the free Mini X rental kit directly through Starlink’s website in Germany, together with the Residential 100 Mbps plan. I’ve managed to get past the AI bot with my support request and am now waiting for a response.

—

Hey everyone,

I’m using a Starlink Mini in Germany with the 30-day trial, and I’m wondering whether the available speeds are limited by my specific plan, my hardware, or the trial itself.

At the moment, I can only select the Residential 100 Mbps plan. Starlink support told me that I cannot subscribe to a plan offering more than 100 Mbps with my Mini. However, I’ve read online that the Starlink Mini is technically capable of reaching around 200–250 Mbps under good conditions.

My actual performance is excellent, but it seems to be capped at 100 Mbps. With a completely unobstructed view of the sky, I’d love to get around 200 Mbps out of the Mini if the hardware is capable of it.

My questions are:

- Is the Residential 100 Mbps plan the only option available for the Starlink Mini in Germany?

- Could this restriction be specific to my hardware model or the 30-day trial?

- Are any Mini users in Germany able to subscribe to a faster residential plan, such as one offering speeds above 100 Mbps?

- If you can get higher speeds, which plan are you using?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone using the Mini in Germany, especially if you’ve managed to get a plan with a higher speed limit.

Thanks!

❓ Question For those who used to have Xfinity, how much difference does the switch make?!

No matter where you live in the country, was wondering about whether or not this is an upgrade from the fiber based model that most people have been using for ages now. Are there really technological advancements going over to this brand or will it repeat the same pattern as live TV with the satellite vs cable situation??

📦 Starlink Kit Starlink Mini Kit delays

Anyone else order a starlink mini kit this month? (Or last) I’ve been waiting a few weeks now for it to ship, no tracking updates and just keeps kicking my delivery back another week once it reaches the end of my estimated delivery window.

It’s frustrating to order this specifically for the purpose of a trip and totally whiff on timing. Any luck cancelling unfulfilled orders and going to Best Buy for pick up?

Caso eu pague a starlink mini, vai dar conta do recado?

* Starlink mini 15000mt;

*Starlink standard 25000mt;

*Router mesh pequeno 4500mt;

*Routers normais(TP link e outros) bons nesse caso, 6000mt(max);

*Starlink mini+router mesh=19500mt

*Starlink mini+router normal=21000mt
