General Discussion Andor better thar Rogue One

I have watched the show and the film and I can't help but to find Andor way better than Rogue One. Andor has everything except big battles: a really good plot, good character development, Luthen as a spy is brilliant, we have betrayals and all of the stuff that we can find in a spy movie. Rogue ONe just has big battles. It's way better than the other star wars films but after watching Andor Rogue One felt a little empty.

What do you guys think?

Edit: Yes, I do understand that a tv show and a film are different media. Still I think Andor was better in many aspects.

General Discussion Is Dagan Gera the most advanced force-user we see in Canon

I know he’s not the strongest force-user but he’s shown force powers no one else in canon has learned (I think)

Movies How come Vader didn’t sense Yoda trained Luke when they battled on Cloud City?

He kept saying “Obi-Wan taught you well”. Luke was hanging out with Yoda earlier that day. He probably smelled like him. Just a thought.

General Discussion What's your favorite scenein all of Star Wars?

Post image
0 Upvotes

There are so many iconic moments throughout Star Wars, but if I had to pick my two favorite scenes, they would be:

The Holdo Maneuver in The Last Jedi. The visuals, the silence, the impact... everything about that scene is absolutely breathtaking. It's probably my favorite scene in the entire franchise.

Darth Vader's hallway scene in Rogue One. The way it builds tension and shows just how terrifying Vader really is makes it unforgettable.

Both scenes give me chills every time I watch them, but for completely different reasons.

What's your favorite scene in all of Star Wars, and why?

Games What even is the logic behind the Sith both in legends and in canon recognizing Revan as an important Sith Lord?

He was surely known through legend in time as one that was brainwashed, and then came back to the light.

Both Legends and Canon (Sith Eternal) treat Revan like an important figure. Does it even make sense?

Edit: I meant them, I have to remember, at least in canon, their gender has not been revelead as of yet

Movies The joke about Luke questioning Yoda to death-- flip side

Yoda is being Hella annoying as well in his last moments. His repetitive, weak croak-y "...luke" to get his attention in the last few statements is funny as hell. I'm not even saying this as a jab, its just hilarious how this final conversation is so jumbled & goofy in general while holding serious weight in terms of whats to come for the galaxy. Say what you will about Jedi, call it the weakest of the OT, it is so much fun. Best star wars movie, even if Empire is objectively the greatest film.

General Discussion Alternate Rebellion Symbols

Post image
9 Upvotes

One of my favorite tropes in Star Wars is seeing alternate designs for the Rebel Star Bird, and I’d like to see more of them anyone know any good examples?

Cannon, legends, or even jsut fan art?

I love seeing the variants

Like the starbird in Rebels, The Trident in Andor and more. What do you all think about them?

Meta Shower Thought: Who named all these planets?

Okay it wasn't in the shower. It was a Shower Thought style thought, but I was driving. The car in front of me was a Genesis, and my brain thought "Geonosis".

Then I thought, you know, "Earth" became the name for our planet. That word started out as a name for the thing we stand on. Earth. Soil. Ground. "Terra" firma.

Seems logical to me that most planets with a native-grown population would name the planet whatever their language calls "dirt".

But the Geonosians' vocalizations are all clicks and buzzes. They're basically bugs. Ain't no bug pronouncing "Geonosis" and meaning "that stuff we stand around on when we get tired of flying".

So who named Geonosis?

General Discussion Is Rae Sloane the worst Admiral in the entire Star Wars galaxy?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Let me set the bar, her appearances are usually from Sloane's POV so it's easy to get swept up in her rhythm but taking a step back reveals some truly dismal performance.

Starting her tour in the big leagues over Endor in The Levers of Power, Sloane is basically on probation and has only recently gotten her Admiral plaque back after being busted down to Commodore from Vice Admiral by the Grand Inquisitor for poor performance in prior media. She has received command of her ISD The Vigilance back from Vader, but she also has an ISB loyalty officer assigned who is questioning her about her decision making process and watching her for signs of disloyalty.

In the opening skirmish of the battle she for seemingly no reason orders the crew to reinforce the bridge deflector shields. This allows a short lived trio of Rebel CR-90 corvettes to overwhelm the normally battleship grade forward shields of her ISD to burn out her primary forward shield generators leaving them on auxiliary generators.

As she monitors the ongoing battle, she starts drawing up attack plans for mop up or pursuit of the Rebels, plans for dealing with B-wings, and repeatedly attempts to get ahold of ground forces control until she is interrupted by the Death Star's shield going down. By immediately switching her view from the space battle tacmap to bring up footage of the ground shield station burning, she misses the crucial moment the Rebel Red and Gold squadrons form up on the Millennium Falcon to streak out of the melee in the Imperial battle line to begin their attack run. This lapse leaves her fighter squadrons waiting for permission to engage until they are out of position and too late to pursue.

Then she recalls all of her TIEs to her hangar bays against her ISB handler's attempts to countermand those orders, trying to form up on the Executor's flank to cover it with ineffectual turbolaser fire (instead of sending fighters) until Rebel starfighters take out the Executor's bridge. Seeing the dreadnought go down she attempts to take command of all remaining Imperial forces by pulling rank. She sends out orders to all of the other ISDs to also recall their TIE squadrons to the hangars, kills her ISB oversight officer, then tells all of the ships to follow her to jump to Annaj all before the Death Star actually blows up.

Sloane justifies to herself that she's doing what has to be done to save the Empire by preemptively running, but up to this point the Imperial ISD battle line is described as holding fairly well in the brawl with Interdictor support pinning the Rebels in system. She makes no attempts to call for reinforcements and ends up abandoning the ISD Eviscerator under command of Admiral Garrick Versio (who is either the same rank or higher than her if she is back at Vice Admiral) and all other remaining Imperial forces at Endor.

She is constantly distracting herself planning about what happens after the battle, fixating on single threats, or focusing on things on the ground that she shouldn't even be focusing on given she's a fleet Admiral not a General. Reading what is written she pretty much threw the entire battle of Endor for the Empire in the canon timeline and makes a very good case for why her superiors put her under ISB review.

To be fair the loss of the Death Star and the Executor is quite a blow along with the bulk of high command, but she personally hates the Death Star as a waste of resources and if she is properly running the numbers in her head as described it shouldn’t be any reason for a supposedly steady officer to panic. Overall the loss of the Executor makes up a single digit percentage of the Empire's supercapital might (being 1 of 13 canon Executor class ships) and the handful of lost ISDs don't even add up to a whole percentage point of the Imperial Navy's star destroyer strength. The post-Endor Imperial navy is still at around 95-99% of full strength given prior large capital ship engagements up to this point have almost all been resounding Imperial victories during the Rebel's failed Mid Rim Offensive.

Her showing in the subsequent of the Aftermath trilogy is also quite poor. She arrives at Akiva under the command of Gallius Rax, fails to stop the Rebel scout Wedge Antilles from sending a distress signal to nearby Rebels, then proceeds to gaslight the rest of the other Imperial ranking officers at the Imperial Future Council conference that their location is unknown and secure to the Rebels.

When more Rebel scouts are destroyed jumping into the system she is adamant that they hide their ISDs instead of holding a protective blockade, allowing part of a followup Rebel special forces detachment of drop commandos to make landfall before the ground based air defenses can shoot the transport down. These special forces units then infiltrate the capital learning about the existence of the IFC, coinciding with a public uprising caused by yet another Rebel pilot slipping through the planet’s air defenses via a smuggler.

Moff Pandion is outraged and has been arguing to bring back his Star Destroyer the entire time but Sloane continues to make excuses such as ‘not provoking the New Republic fleet’. Her prisoner then briefly escapes and manages to send a message to said New Republic defense fleet. Sloanes manages to buy the Rebels from the local crime lords, but this is moot as the Imperials have to make her escape from the planetary uprising. The other Imperial leaders fed up with Sloane recall their fleet to orbit, while fleeing Sloane kills the local governor attempting to seek refuge with them after she destabilized his world. Sloane and the rest of the officers flee in a yacht to her ship the Vigilance which gets pummeled into scrap by the arriving New Republic fleet.

She then abandons her flagship to flee to Pandion’s ship the ISD Vanquish, killing Moff Pandion who has boarded the shuttle to dispose of Sloane and take command of the fleet. She returns to Rax, who tells her he also leaked info on the Akiva summit to the New Republic to clean house. Rax apprently really likes her, declaring Sloane competent for surviving and quickly promotes her to Grand Admiral.

Sloane spends months as Grand Admiral as the public face of the Empire, de-factor commanding all Imperial forces on behalf of Rax against the New Republic and Imperial breakaways. As the top military commander she is overseeing ongoing operation Cinder purges killing billions of civilians (unsurprising given her early appearances include commanding the forces hunting down Alderanian refugee ships). She is somehow surprised to discover that under her supreme leadership along with her boss Rax who’s entire goal under operation Cinder is wiping out the Empire for failing Palpatine, loyal Imperial forces have somehow dwindled 10% of their former strength. According to the records the Imperial supercapital fleet fell from 12 Executor class (13-1 Executor lost at Endor before she took command) down to 1 available with another suspiciously MIA hidden by Rax.

She gets suspicious of Rax (who has been leaking intel to the Rebels) and eventually tries to kill him to take control, but immediately falls for Rax's ‘trust me bro’ on his newest plan to attack Chandrilla with warcrimes to make her Empress. Participating in this plan by pretending to by Rax’s alias ‘the Operator’ who has been leaking critical intel to the NR leading to major Republic victories goes poorly for her. The attack begins with her in the blast zone again, causing her to once again rethink her life choices and go on a further investigative journey into Rax.

Her boss Rax that she's been enabling then takes most of the remaining forces of that 10% military strength to Jakku to die and the Rebels form up to clean house. She then finally decides to kill Rax after he tries to blow up the planet Jakku everyone is fighting around, then takes over the First Order contingencies to begin again.

Not only is she a seemingly incompetent commander, but she also chooses to serve team Cinder under Rax after Endor despite it actively betraying her beloved Empire. She is both directly or indirectly the cause of most of the Empire’s military losses both in her failings at Endor, and serving under the traitorous Rax all the way up to de-facto commander of the entire Imperial military as Grand Admiral.

Are there any Star Wars admirals who even come close to the disastrous amount of damage done to their own faction under their leadership besides Rax himself who was doing it on purpose?

General Discussion If Ishin-il-Raz from Legends was added to Canon

Post image
2 Upvotes

For those who aren’t familiar, Ishin-il-Raz is a Grand Admiral of the Galactic Empire as well as the founder and overall leader of COMPNOR’s Select Committee in the Legends continuity. During the Clone Wars he was a key figure to COMPNOR’s predecessor organization COMPOR (Commission for the Protection of the Republic) and played a role in Palpatine’s rise to power through propaganda and encouraging patriotism for the Republic. Upon the Republic become the Empire and COMPOR reorganized as the state sec COMPNOR Il-Raz would use his position to promote Human High Culture across the galaxy and played a major role in establishing the Galactic Empires human supremacist propaganda and policies while encouraging the new dictatorship over the galaxies citizens. Unlike the other Grand Admirals he had no military background and was promoted only as a political appointment, and served as an example of how Palpatine could replace any of the Grand Admirals if necessary and used his potion to commit several massacres and genocides for no reason other than to impress Emperor Palpatine. All of this made him disliked by the other Grand Admirals and other Imperials due to either pragmatic reasons or genuine disgust, seeing him as no different than a petty criminal. Upon the Emperors death at the battle of Endor he realized his career was over and while the Empire went into a power vacuum Ishin-il-Raz went into depression and knew he couldn’t make it as a warlord while ordering more planetary genocides. He finally decided to hijack his Star Destroyer to crash into a Star leading to his death along with the 37,000 members of his crew.

So long story short he is the Star Wars equivalent of Joseph Goebbels and Heinrich Himmler.

Could you see him appearing in a potential animated series taking place during the early rebellion and/or Galactic Civil War eras like Rebels or Bad Batch?

A potential live action series involving Rebels fighting against the Empire and its sub groups and factions like Andor?

Or a potential video game series similar to Jedi: Survivor and Fallen Order?

I figured it be a good way to incorporate mostly obscure characters from Legends like how Armand Isard was made canon even though he hasn’t gotten a major role yet. And a way to not always rely on the beloved and iconic classic Imperials like Palpatine, Vader, Tarkin, and Thrawn. Maybe make him into something like the next Director Krennic or Moff Gideon, as a way to show more irredeemable love to hate type Imperials to balance out the humane or complex ones.

What are your thoughts and opinions?

Think he’d be a good villain for a spin-off series or at least a seasonal arc villain?

How did you feel when you saw the episode about the Ghorman Massacre? I remember—I don't know—it really left a mark on me; I knew the Empire was ruthless, but right then... that was when I realized just how savage they were.

General Discussion Anyone else feel like Jango Fett is an incredibly important character to the lore of Star Wars, yet rarely gets any recognition?

Post image
303 Upvotes

He's the template for the entire Clone Army, there's literally millions of him around the galaxy decades after he dies, he was considered the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy while he was active, managed to go toe-to-toe with Obi-Wan, yet despite it all he's rarely brought up. He never gets a single flashback scene in the Clone Wars show and you can probably count on one hand the amount of times his name is said, the Clones don't seem to care for the fact he fought for the Separatists, none of the Jedi seem to care that their army is a Clone of a man fighting for the other side, he gets basically no new media at all and hasn't been in a show or video game in ages, like what am I missing here? I know Boba is obviously way more popular but surely Jango deserves some love too, right?
