Vocab & Use of Spanish [GIVE CONTEXT] Do you know what ‘toto’ means in Spanish? 🚽 😂

I’m from Spain but live in the US, and I’ve just discovered that my toilet is literally called TOTO 😭😂

Apparently, it’s a fancy Japanese brand that’s been around for over 100 years.

So basically, I’ve been sitting on a luxury Japanese toto this whole time without knowing it 😂

I feel like any Spaniard would find this hilarious!

Vocab & Use of Spanish [GIVE CONTEXT] La manita or el manito?

I follow a Colombian tik toker and he refers to his baby hands as LA manito , it sounds strange for me since El pie = el piecito . La Mano = la manita , but is correct to say La manito?

Resources & Media Weekly Self-Promotion Mega Thread

Welcome to this week’s self-promotion thread.

This is the place to share anything related to learning or teaching Spanish that would normally count as self-promotion. If you’re offering services, recruiting participants, or promoting a project, post it here instead of making a separate submission.

Examples include:

  • Spanish tutoring
  • Online or in-person classes
  • Language exchange groups
  • YouTube channels, podcasts, blogs, or newsletters
  • Apps, websites, and learning resources
  • School or university surveys
  • Academic research and studies
  • Discord servers and community groups
  • Books, courses, or other Spanish-learning materials

A few rules

  • Keep it related to Spanish language or Spanish language learning.
  • Be honest about what you’re promoting.
  • Include enough information so people know what you’re offering.
  • Don’t spam. One comment per week is enough. You can edit your comment if you need to update it.
  • Follow all other r/Spanish rules.

If you’re looking for a tutor, class, or learning resource, this is also a great place to browse.

This thread refreshes every Sunday at 12:00 AM, so feel free to come back each week with new offerings or updates.

Happy learning, and buena suerte.

WARNING: It is your job to be a responsible consumer and vet people you interact with.

Moderators are not responsible for any business you engage in with anyone on this sub. However, multiple reports of someone scamming/taking advantage of others will result in a perma ban.

Study & Teaching Advice Subjects for conversation with a teacher

What do y'all talk about with your teachers? Just what you did during the week? Do you tell them "Pretend you're a waiter and I need to order breakfast"? Do you try to come up with interesting philosophical discussion to have? I'm finding myself dreading class day because I don't want to bore the guy to death but I don't know enough vocabulary to talk about anything fun. Let me know what you do!

Resources & Media Recommended books to read in Spanish?

I just got accepted to study abroad in Argentina next fall so I want to brush up on my Spanish for the next year before I go. I’m currently reading The Giver/El Dador in Spanish and it’s of a pretty good difficulty for me where it’s challenging but still comprehensible. What other books would you guys recommend?
