PC SSE - Discussion SLOP-METER
Nexus now requires mod authors to disclose AI use, which is fair enough. But it's just a yes or no. It doesn't tell you how much AI was involved, whether anyone actually reviewed the code, whether the mod was tested properly, or whether the author plans to support it when something breaks.
I originally built Slop Meter for my own mods because I wanted a better way to show people what actually went into them. I use AI in development myself, and I think there's a pretty big difference between using AI as a tool and just throwing untested code onto Nexus. I figured other mod authors might find it useful too, so I made it available for everyone.
It's basically a little strip you can add to your Nexus mod description that shows how much work and testing went into a mod. There are 42 milestones covering things like human code review, in-game testing, clean installs, source availability, signed builds, ongoing support, and more.
Each milestone is a circle. Filled means yes, half-filled means partially, and empty means no. Authors can leave a short explanation for each one, and there's an overall score with a slop-to-solid meter on the right.
Clicking the strip takes you to a page with the full breakdown, comments, and a Useful / Slop voting system. There's also a link to the source repo and a little chip showing the current vote counts.
For authors, it's pretty simple. You paste one line of BBCode into your Nexus description. No images to upload or maintain. If you update your milestones later, the strip updates automatically.
I also added a browse page and a community catalog where people can submit and categorize mods themselves. You can tag things like SKSE plugins, ESPs, DLLs, and whether something appears to be No AI, AI-assisted, Mostly AI, or Unverified. Other users can agree or disagree with those claims.
And just to be clear, I use AI to help build my mods, and I used AI to help build this tool too. I'm not trying to hide that, and I'm not making this to bash anyone who uses AI. I just think people should be able to see what level of effort, testing, and maintenance went into something instead of having to guess based on a yes/no tag.
I've put my own mods on there too. Carbon UI is sitting at 10/15, with the missing milestones visible for everyone to see. Another one of mine is at 4/14 because I rushed it and didn't sign the build. That's kind of the point. I'm not trying to make everything look perfect.

I'd genuinely like some feedback, especially on the milestones. There are 42 right now, but I'm sure I've overlooked some things. What else would you want to know about a mod before installing it?
You can vote against each classification an author sets for their mod and the image will change dynamically to show the concensus of the community.
Edit: Reframing to be a bit more postive to honestmods.dev - cleaning up and simplifying the UI.
Edit 2: Appreciate all the criticism and feedback! I've made a lot of changes - that posters have suggested, and am open to more! And thanks for everyone for being civil and respectful!
