Discussion Subtitles for Sherlock — do you use them?
Benedict Cumberbatch speaks at 300 words per minute during deduction scenes. Subtitles are the only way to actually follow everything.

Let me introduce you to the gentleman in this picture: Shri N. Narasimhaiah (18 September 1925 – 25 December 2011), a prominent Kannada writer widely regarded as the “Father of Kannada Detective Novels.”
Despite having received only a fourth-grade education, which came to an end following the untimely demise of his father, he went on to author more than 550 detective novels during his lifetime
He wrote primarily in his native language, Kannada, and many of his novels became bestsellers. Some of his works were reportedly reprinted as many as 35,000 times, reflecting the immense popularity he enjoyed among readers.
His detective stories featured memorable characters reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. He created several fictional detectives, including Purushottama, Arinjaya, Madhusudana, and Galiraya, each with a series of approximately 100 adventures. Through these characters, he captivated generations of Kannada readers with mystery, suspense, and thrilling investigations.
Sadly, despite his extraordinary literary contributions, his work has not received the wider recognition it deserves. Many of his stories were adapted into films, yet his name and contributions have not always received the prominence they merit.
I am writing this post with a simple hope: to introduce Shri N. Narasimhaiah and his extraordinary body of work to readers across the globe. His achievements deserve to be remembered, celebrated, and explored beyond linguistic and geographical boundaries.
A man with just a fourth-grade education created hundreds of detective stories and left a lasting mark on Kannada literature. His story reminds us that great literary talent is not defined by formal education, but by imagination, dedication, and the ability to inspire readers.
Let us help bring his legacy into the spotlight and give this remarkable writer the recognition he deserves.
May the legacy of Shri N. Narasimhaiah live on, one story and one reader at a time.

Well finally somebody said it. Sherlock is 100% undiagnosed to some degree and you can’t convince me otherwise. The fact that John said it too is frying me so bad lol. May be the first time I’ve seen a neurodivergent character actually have his neurodivergence clearly addressed like this.

Link to article: https://femmagazine.com/asexuality-sherlocks-biggest-mystery/
If this has been discussed before a lot forgive me because I’m very new to this show and its fanbase. I just saw this and it was pretty important for me to talk about.
I’m someone who considers myself to be asexual. For me, I don’t care much for sex, I rarely think about it unless the subject is brought up to me, and I’ve never really looked at someone and desired to be with them that way.
Unfortunately in fiction there’s hardly any sort of representation for asexuality. The most notable representation for asexuality that exists is Todd Chavez from Bojack Horseman, who even had a coming out scene. There’s also Jughead Jones but they completely removed that from the CW show while it was canon in the original comics.
Sherlock Holmes could easily be among the few asexual characters we have. He’s an incredibly iconic fictional character, and we see evidence of his asexuality very consistently. But it kind of pisses me off seeing that Steven Moffat himself had the gall to straight up call it “boring.” That’s literally insulting to all the asexuals out there, because he’s literally saying the concept of asexuality is boring. Why does Sherlock need to get it on with someone else for the story to be more interesting? It’s already plenty interesting enough to see Sherlock being his own funny self and solving cases. The show is already fun and interesting as it is. I’m sure there’s people out there who want to see him get with someone, but if they want it that bad they should look somewhere else, as the heart of this show is supposed to be Sherlock solving big mysteries and puzzles, with some important emotional background plots.
Benedict Cumberbatch did also say in an interview how he believes Sherlock just suppresses his sex drive and that it’s not asexuality. But the truth is asexuals can actually still have a sex drive. Sherlock could have a suppressed sex drive and still be asexual. Both could be perfectly true. Asexuality is the lack of attraction directed at one person. Sex drive is the biological urge for sex itself. A person who experiences sexual attraction could have a low libido, but that doesn’t take away from their sexual attraction to the person. Libido has more to do with the hormones, and asexuality is not a hormonal thing. Same way being gay isn’t hormonal. It’s just how the person is, and what their preferences are.
An asexual however also has all the normal hormones with various levels of it just like anyone else. The only difference between asexuals and anyone else in that regard is how they act on sex and with who. Some asexuals might act on it with someone for the sake of doing it if they have a high libido, but it will still have nothing to do with the sexual attractiveness of the person they’re doing it with.

Sherlock is one of my favorite series, but I find this episode very uninteresting and I don't want to give that impression to my friend who is just starting the series. We already skipped "The Blink Banker," should we skip this one too?

It's a bit hot take or a personal preference but to me jim moriarty makes more sense than the literature one. cause the only thing separate jim from sherlock is the people he's around not mortality or code. in the classic one james Moriarty was set as opposite of sherlock. like his evil version. Where in the series jim is definitely evil. but he has lack of sanity. and i think it should be the only key difference. the people around sherlock actually gives him his identity. so it's fascinate when moriarty says in last "you are not ordinary you are like me. " so i think he sees a mirror of himself.
what do you think let me know??

Not to say he didn’t find John useful with actually helping with cases. And also not to say it’s confirmed he is canonically neurodivergent, I’m merely stating his behavior with how alike it is to neurodivergence. But you see how excited Sherlock gets whenever he figures things out or when he starts piecing puzzles together, he just HAS to let John know and tell him as soon as he sees him. You could say that he’s his partner so of course he’s going to, but I mean also with how sometimes he will talk really fast and frantically like he just has to say it. Because sometimes it seemed like it’s not just him using him as a partner but he also wants to share the excitement with him.
It makes me happy to see as a neurodivergent person myself, because I get the same way about stuff I’m extremely passionate about and hyper-focused on. If it gives me a strong dose of emotion and excitement I just HAVE to tell anybody who will listen. It could also be said it’s one of his ways of connecting with others since he doesn’t fully understand the more conventional ways that people do it. He only understands how to do it through what he understands in his own mind.

For the record: this is one of my favorite scenes, with everyone coming to the rescue, even including Anderson.
The logic seems to be focused on whether the bullet penetrated Sherlock’s body or not, based on not hearing the mirror behind him shatter. Because the bullet was still in there, it was important to fall backwards to reduce blood loss.
But had the bullet shattered the mirror (meaning it both entered and exited his body), would there be any advantage in falling forwards? I’d say blood loss would occur falling in either direction.
I’d argue that falling backwards was the best option because it covers both the scenarios of having the.bullet stuck inside (functioning as “the cork in a bottle”) and the bullet pierced through Sherlock’s body (blood loss regardless of falling direction). What do you guys think, are there any circumstances that would favor falling forwards?

I was looking through images for references And found the full image without the blue tilt, and it’s from a news article
I never knew about it existed until now, so which one is better

I just finished the last episode of season 4 and I want to give my review for this show
Fav episodes: The Reichenbach Fall, A Scandal In Belgravia
Least favourite: The Six Thatchers , The Final Problem
Season 1&2: 1000000/10: Acting, storylines and editing were so peak the first 2 seasons, it really couldn't compete with any other crime show I've watched before. It got me so hooked that I've binge watched it in a few days. The chemistry between John and Sherlock was amazing, it was humourus, catchy, thrilling and sad.
'"The Reichenbach Fall" was an insane episode! Now I'm not one to cry at movies or TV Shows but the ending of "The Reichenbach Fall" made me sob.
Season 3: I was excited about season 3, but honestly was met with a bit of dissappointment. The downfall from the first two seasons was noticable, yet it was also great and humourus to get to see Sherlock from a softer and more social side. I missed the vibe from season 1&2 though. I think Mary was put a bit too much in the center of the story, sometimes it felt like Sherlock and John only being side characters.
Season 4: Well....yeah....just... Wtf?, no I mean it like WHAT. THE. FUCK.?! No more words needed.
The Final Problem felt like I was watching a psycho thriller written on Wattpad. Also I used to love these smooth editing effects and transitions they made, in season 4 it looks like made with CapCut.
All in all I would give this show a 9/10 for season 1-3 and a 0/10 for season 4.
I think I'll rewatch it one day, just not season 4. Did I say season 4 was terrible?

Hi everyone,
I know it's kind of a lost cause but like 10 years ago, I bought on the BBC store a black hoodie with " I believe in Sherlock holmes" written on the back in blue. I lost it in the paris subway and since then never found it again anywhere.
If you know where it could still be found or bought or if someone doesn't want it anymore. It's really a childhood thing for me so I miss it a lot 😭
And yes I still tried vinted and ebay...
Thanks for the answers !

Just started season 4, and I am honestly so disappointed for now. In my opinion this is the worst episode I've seen so far
All in all it just does not give the typical "Sherlock feeling" I have felt the first 3 seasons. It's kinda sad because I really really love season 1 and 2 and I found season 3 to be weaker but still good.
Hopefully it doesn't continue like this for the next 2 episodes.

Fan project, free, no sign-up, nothing to sell. Mods, if this doesn't fit here, feel free to take it down.
Rewatching the series, I kept wondering how much of the show's London was already in Doyle. Quite a lot, it turns out. So I put every street, station and building named in the original stories on a map of London as it stood in 1889, with the real Victorian maps underneath: Charles Booth's poverty map and the Ordnance Survey.
A few things that might be fun if you know the show:
It's a one-person hobby thing with rough edges, and readers on r/SherlockHolmes already caught a few places I had put on the wrong street. So I'd genuinely like to know:
