How do I start learning to love myself?

• Upvotes

I’ve recently become aware of how awful my with myself is. I truly dislike/despise myself. I’m gay and barely have any community around me (I live in a very rural part of Arizona). I’m also chubby and not necessarily a “looker”, which is especially difficult within the gay community too. I find I do t like the way I look or my personality. I’m just not sure how to break this feeling. I know I should at least come to terms with who I am, but I can’t and don’t know how…any advice?

When you realize that someone's opinion is usually just a reflection of their own limited view rather than a true measure of your character it becomes a lot easier to let go of the pressure to be understood by everyone.

Discovery

I have always wanted to be normal, like everyone else. I've tried and tried, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to become like everyone else. It's certainly disappointing, but I can't run away from it. So, I guess it's better to face it.

To me, being normal means having a good job, earning respect, and having a good figure. But maybe, for me, it's something deeper, something within. Maybe I'm redefining what normal means from a different perspective. 😊

So, I'll just keep walking, continuously discovering another part of myself—the I.

Real self-love is something most of us were never taught.

We were taught to be good, helpful, successful, and considerate of others, but not necessarily how to listen to ourselves, understand our own needs, or make them a priority. So we grow up looking for love in all the wrong places. In approval, relationships, achievements, and being needed. Hoping someone else will finally give us what we have not learned to give ourselves.

But self-love is something we practice, not just something we feel.

Here is where we start:

  • Pay attention to your needs. You can't meet a need you haven't learned to recognize.
  • Ask yourself every day: “What can I do for you today to make your life a little happier?”
  • Actually do it. Make your own needs and happiness a priority, not an afterthought.
  • Set boundaries. Stop saying yes when you really mean no.
  • Keep promises to yourself. Build trust with yourself through your actions.
  • Ask for what you need. Don't expect others to read your mind, but don't be afraid to receive love and support either.

Real self-love is taking responsibility for your own well-being instead of waiting for someone else to make you happy.

Wide open plains, blue sky and gentle horses

Spent a day out on the high grassland today.
This sweet white horse stood still for the photo, and its little brown foal just hung around right behind it.

The air was crisp, the sky so clear it felt endless. Far off you can see yaks scattered all over the hills.
It’s rare to get away from busy city noise and just stand in this huge open space.

Has anyone here ever visited the highland grasslands?

Everybody loves differently and that's what I had to change about myself. Don't expect the same thing in return everybody shows and expresses in their own way. holding it against them it's not the way to go about it. Either appreciate or dont sticking around knowing what's going to happen becomes your problem not theirs and if you're gonna do something or kindness, don't do it for something don't expect the same back. Make sure it's genuine no strings attached just do it because you wanna do it cause it makes you feel good. Learn to let go of whatever's taking the peace away from let it Be known why, and how it came down to the decision. Whatever ain't for you will test you over and over push it to your limits. Tell your realise things ain't for you. and It's our of you"r control. Whatever issue you may have. Make acceptance be your answer for peace

Calculate your next moves how about

whatever's put on here

It's never applied in real life

you got it backwards.

a mask you can never take off smh

Why wear one if you can't even be yourself? IRL

Ashamed, not me you, ashamed of being yourself

Is the worst sickness anyone can have

you will keep to yourself and force yourself to be blind

Miss opportunities that come out once

Hold back from growth and stay in the same rut feelings

thet brought you here in the first place Good luck
