Is this something not that uncommon? Or was it a bug? Like what are the chances four lightning attacks in a row.

When I first fought the headless ape gank on my initial playthrough, I thought it was a pretty stupid fight. I used the strategy of obliterating the brown ape in 5 seconds with firecrackers and mortal draw, and it didn't take very long to beat.
However, I am currently doing a NG++ charmless demon bell playthrough, in which I am also trying to beat all bosses. I reached the headless ape duo, and found that the strategy of instantly obliterating the brown ape wasn't working for me. It had too much health and posture, and I would always get killed before managing to burst it down.
This forced me to learn the fight. In doing so, I discovered that the two apes are actually synchronized. The brown ape usually stays more passive, but it does specific attacks or combos after certain attacks of the headless ape. I learned to do the fight by mostly staying locked on to the headless ape and focusing on it, and switching attention to the brown ape when I knew it was going to attack.
When the headless ape does a short melee combo, the brown ape will follow it with its own short melee combo. So I parry the headless combo, then quickly switch the lock on and parry the brown combo.
When the headless ape does either of its sweep attacks, the brown ape will do a melee attack right after it. So when I see the headless ape beginning a sweep attack, I immediately switch the lock on to the brown ape, then jump and parry the brown's attack.
When the headless ape screams, the brown ape will follow it up with its long combo. So I run away from the headless, then switch lock on to the brown ape. I parry its long combo, and then I have a big punish window against the brown ape, which I use for either mortal draw or just a bunch of melee attacks.
When the headless ape does a long combo, the brown ape won't interrupt it. If it finishes the combo with the overhead slam and you parry it, causing it to stagger, the brown ape will jump at you after a few seconds, while the headless ape is still staggered. So I parry the overhead slam, then while the headless ape staggers, I use the spear to deal massive posture damage. I then immediately press parry to avoid the brown ape, which will fall on me at this moment.
Learning how scripted the fight was and learning how to properly deal with it made it a lot more enjoyable, and has moved it from F tier to like... C tier for me. It's still not a great fight, the arena is too small and the camera freaks out often, but it's not as bad as I used to think.

Where is this coming from?
Well recently I started a new playthrough in NG+ God knows which number with the challenge being only praying strike, and I haven't completed it yet but it's going smooth with my only concern being the ape (haven't reached that far yet) but the posture damage it does is no joke and I also noticed it staggers the bosses more often than normal attacks
I'm not saying it's best, if we made a ranking of all combat arts it'd still be down somewhere but don't underestimate the power of Shinobi hands

How dare he use that move right at the beginning of the fight! That's cheating I'm not even ready yet

Man, I just want to say that few years ago I refunded Sekiro after less than hour of in game time.
Bought it again recently since Shadow of the Erdtree was like 2 years ago and I missed fresh Fromsoft experience.
Now I understand why this game is GOATed and GOTYed
Genichiro, Monk and Saint Isshin are great bosses.
Progression feels so good and locations are beautiful.
Emma and Child of Rejuvenation my beloved.
Rice and Mortal Blade OP. (and at the same place?!?!?!)
And Lightning Reversal is cherry on top.
This game is a gem.

Edit: not sure why the clip isn’t playing properly, uploaded from Xbox app but it’s skipping, my bad.
I just wanted to share my experience with this wonderful game.
I initially played it a few years ago, but couldn’t get the hang of it after coming straight from Elden Ring. I rage quit on chained ogre and uninstalled! Not my proudest moment. I knew it wasn’t the game I just didn’t understand what it wanted me to do.
Since then I’ve played many other souls-likes and kind of got good (well, better at least). So I thought why not try it again. This was the best gaming decision I think I have ever made!
The game is so amazing. It has faster combat with a high skill ceiling like Khazan, some of the best stealth combat I have ever played, and the world is just beautiful. The story as well, simple but strong all of the way through.
I did get frustrated with some of the bosses. Firstly the bull, I didn’t like that its design encouraged dodging over parrying. I also struggled with Corrupted Monk, but for a completely different reason. The posture regen on this boss was absurd, but I realised after that I didn’t have the proper tools for the job (divine confetti, snap seeds, purple umbrella), so that’s my fault really. Finally Demon of hatred. Just like the bull really, I dodged my way through it in less than 10 tries but it was forgettable.
Now onto the great bosses! There are too many to mention but they just kept getting better and better. My first encounter with Genichiro is what made the game click, and I love this boss so much. True Monk I actually enjoyed unlike its predecessor. Then Owl Father and Isshin SS, just wow! Poppa owl took maybe 10 tries but I killed Isshin in my first attempt! I couldn’t believe it. So I went into the boss rematch and got dunked on until I learned him properly.
I then decided to try the Divine Gauntlet to get Sakura Dance. Inner Geni killed me pretty quick so I practiced him over and over. And what a fight man, so good. When he lighting reversed my reversal I laughed so hard. But after maybe an hour of practice, I was ready. The clip above shows my first attempt at the gauntlet after practicing. It was so rewarding.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Thank you for reading if you got to the end. On to ng+ for the plat.

One of the GOATS in boss quality and as a villain too, what an irredeemable, cheating and despicable piece of sh!t. My top 3 fav bosses in Sekiro and I'm so excited to fight his inner version, I've heard is somehow even better.

Damn near 40 minutes for this boss lol
r/Sekiro • u/Ill_Butterscotch772 • 7h ago
Mf just won't die, every time I'm at 90% of his posture break, he just go like a lawn mower, break my perfect posture and kill me when I'm down.
Or half of time my fingers just refuse to mikiri counter him, fk it mannn.
The fk you mean I have to fight sword saint after this as well??

This is my first post on Reddit. For the last few months, I have been at my all-time low. I did everything needed; still, things are not moving the way I wanted in life. I was a Super motivated person who loved my job became zero motivated to do anything, Wanted to get back on track/focus I couldn't. Games help me relax; I was playing FIFA 26, but the shitty internet connection in my home just made me rage-quit online matches.
Relaxation was not helping; I wanted to feel some achievement in anything. I doomscrolled and somehow got Sekiro on my feed. I have installed/Uninstalled this game twice before without finishing it, and it was the first game I installed on my own laptop back in 2021 (A friend gave it to me and said it was the hardest game he played). At that time, I also had God of War 4 with me, so I played that more compared to Sekiro (Boi, I played God of War from the PS2 era; loved that game). Still remember I would play God of War and start Sekiro and die to General Naomori Kawarada again and again, so I deleted it.
Then in 2023, for some reason I installed Sekiro again, killed General Naomori Kawarada, but died to Chained Ogre all the time. I played like 2 hrs straight, no improvement. I needed storage for university work, so I deleted this hard game again. Fast forward, now I wanted to finish this game only because nothing is moving in life, but still I can do the thing I wanted to, and Sekiro was on that list. Installed the game, finished the first mini boss and dies to the Chained Ogre many many times and killed him and got my first relief after a long time in those few months; it felt like I still got it (or got something).
I didn't want to see techniques to get attack patterns of the bosses from online, so I didn't see any [accidentally saw a few], but wanted XP. That is where I started using Reddit for the first time officially, found that rats xp farm near Ashina Castle Gate early game grinded to get skills and improved my game. Also, personally, I got vitality to 17 and 8 gourd seeds. And after 56 hrs of gameplay and getting ass kicked by Isshin, I did this.
https://reddit.com/link/1xehx06/video/8h5smjaxwgxh1/player
[btw this video is from the 2nd playthrough [forgot to record first playthrough], but I defeated him without hesitation (get it)]
But explored pretty much everywhere, but no luck finding all items, so I used Reddit again to find treasure boxes and locations to get it to Vitality 19 and gourd seeds 10 and killed all bosses and mini-bosses (It was on my to-do list to kill all bosses in the game, as people online said some bosses are very very hard to defeat). And many said Demon of Hatred is the hardest boss in the game, and to them I will tell, yep, they are absolutely right [hot take DoH>>Issain three phases]. So many said to cheese it by making him fall. So I did this.
https://reddit.com/link/1xehx06/video/77e1hj12xgxh1/player
[Lesssggooo... I didn't want to cheese him; I get it. This boss is not a Sekiro boss tbh, as parrying is not the way, but in Sekiro we learnt/you will learn one thing: pattern finding. So got ass kicked many times, understood the pattern, and finished him].
So apparently I did the Immortal Severance ending, so I didn't get the Father's Bell Charm coz I didn't eavesdrop on Kuro randomly behind curtains (it was funny and totally random how the developer made this move; I kinda liked it). So I didn't defeat three bosses. So I did the reasonable thing anyone will do: I started the second playthrough and finished the game with the purification ending and grinded items to upgrade all prosthetics too. I wanted to defeat all bosses [Remember all bosses]. So in the second playthrough, I did this.
https://reddit.com/link/1xehx06/video/sa81j469xgxh1/player
[Yep, that is a boss fight you can win at the start of the game, and it plays a different cutscene; still, you lose your arm though].
I finished the game (I didn't want to max skills coz it felt repetitive to farm), but on the forum I saw the Shura outfit and loooved it [I got the Ashina outfit, not a fan]. Also found I still need to defeat two more bosses in the Shura ending, and this Shura ending is one of the requirements for the outfit too. So I am doing what a reasonable person will do: started my final [most probably] playthrough of Sekiro. I love this game; I finally say I can GIT GUD and got motivation and discipline to do my, you know, life stuff too. Thanks to SEKIRO and this subreddit too [I never knew Reddit is such an awesome place to interact and have fun and laugh].
Share your experience in Sekiro and a random moment that got you off guard [Mine was getting mikiri'd by our dad, I was like, WWTTFF]...

I always love to play poison in games where it is available, I have been trying to use this prostethic tool on almost every boss and it has always failed miserably besides for the two Snake Eyes, and even then it took quite a few emblems to work. Meanwhile most of the time when I use the fire canon it procs fire, even without oil.
What is going on? Is it just shit or am I doing it wrong?
r/Sekiro • u/Solid-Version • 22h ago
Especially when you get into the groove of figuring out the mini bosses attack patterns, you have to hold all that information whilst taking out the enemies over and over again.
What a punishing game this is

First time player here. The only other "souls" game I have played is Lies of P, since I loved the parry, the natural next step was Sekiro (after a long break).
I am not sure if this is normal for everyone, but the main bosses Lady Butterfly(5 tries) and Gyobu Oniwa(3 tries) were actually too easy compared to mini-bosses. I have died to Chained Ogre atleast 20x more and to Jozou the drunkard atleast 10x more to the main bosses till now.
Just reached Genichiro, have only tried like 5 times yet, and spent like 40 seconds in total with the 2nd phase, almost die instantly to him, so will only talk about the phase 1. But the first phase is damn, chef's kiss! Its the perfect thing I was looking for. It filled the hole, which I always felt missing.
Firstly, its a human sized enemy, no AoE attacks, no bullshit, just like the "dance" everyone says. Last time I felt this level of fun was with Romeo "King of Puppets" in Lies of P, and it is now, after an year, maybe more.
I hope there are more bosses like this in future, I hope I beat Genichiro, I wonder how hard the 2nd phase is compared to the first, but I am sure it will be fun.
Maybe this is what they mean when people say Sekiro will "click."
Edit: Turns out I was in the third phase and not 2nd. i assumed the lightening one where he takes off his armor is the 2nd phase. i saw it like first phase has 2 deathblows and 2nd phase has 1 deathblow, but turns out each deathblow is a phase XD

I am playing demon bell + charmless and its my 4th playthrough. I have already defeated inner isshin more than 10 times but with demon bell + charmless , i am unable to get past his second phase. There was this one try where i reached the last phase but i somehow fumbled.
Any tips or suggestions are welcome.
