Is there a discord for netplay in Asian or pacific regions?
I just moved out to South Korea recently, and the connection to play on slippi with players stateside is obviously pretty rough. I haven’t been able to practice a lot lately so if there’s a discord or something similar for players in the pacific or Asian regions i wanna get in them so I can keep my practice going.

How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?

These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord

It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)

Does anyone know how I managed to grab the ledge in this clip?

I just did this turn-around tech completely by accident and I'm struggling to recreate it. I don't think it's a PC drop, since you're supposed to be in walking animation to perform it. But I have no idea what else it could be.

Note that I'm not advocating for phantoms to be patched out, I'm saying that the logic that defines a phantom hit is clearly bugged and needs a patch.

For those who've never seen it, UnclePunch wrote a fantastic article which illustrates with images how bugged phantom hits are. Characters are nose to nose and a hit completely whiffs and does zero knockback.

To summarize the problem, the game stops checking for additional hurtboxes when an earlier check phantoms. So a hit can connect cleanly with an arm hurtbox, but phantom the body hurtbox of a character which stops the game from checking collisions and causes no knockback to occur.

This implementation comes with quite a few disadvantages.

• The body hurtbox is often hitbox 1 which gives it the highest priority, which is the opposite behavior you'd want for phantoms to work as intended.
• The hurtbox ID's are arbitrary and are just in whatever order the artists/game designers added them. This causes some characters to take phantom hits more often than others, for no discernible reason. For example characters who have a high priority waist hurtbox.
• It disproportionately punishes moves with a single hitbox like rest. This is another arbitrary limitation because some moves have just one bigger hitbox instead of two or more smaller overlapping ones.
• It inordinately punishes high commit moves. Falcons knee is famously frame positive on shield. But this bug randomly turns what is either a guaranteed kill or advantageous shield pressure for falcon, into leaving him completely open to attacks.

So don't believe the commentators when they say a phantom hit is just perfect spacing. 9 times out of 10, its just a random mess devoid of any apparent reason.

UnclePunch closed his article with a code which causes the game to check other hurtboxes if an earlier ID phantomed. This actually brings the mechanic in line to what the game calls them, in melee "tippers" and in later smash games "glancing blows". UCF, after all, has already changed the internal behavior of the game to make it more competitive when it added neutral starts. And that's not even a bug which has decided the outcome of matches like this one has.

You know how a common Gecko Code used by players is the option to have your character flash Red when you fail to do an L-Cancel. Would it be possible to instead have a Gecko Code that caused your character to enter a dizzy state every time you fail similar to a shield break? I just think it would be a great training tool to improve L-Cancel rates. I would use it while fighting a CPU as a way to practice.

Look, I hate marths that beat me because theyre addicted to C stick left or right on the ground. Like unreasonably raging at them sometimes or really, any PLAYER that spams Fsmash or usmash (if your last name is McCloud)

But, if I land even just 2 F smashes (as Marth) sometimes… my opponent has to spam 30 of them to show me that my two or three were so lame and such poor etiquette…

Just now I beat a Falco with an F smash. (Btw I rarely throw them out especially in unranked because I’m hyper aware of this and I even hate the spammers myself. Sometimes that’s actually to my detriment hence, partly why I’m still silver) but even though it was a good game, they switched to Marth for a ditto, and just sat there F smashing. I dodged and blocked a bunch of them but he caught me, and then when I was respawning he had to make sure to “practice” F smashes standing still. JUST to make SURE… that I knew what he was trying to tell me.

This is all in Unranked too.
