Found the perfect chicken strips at Lahainas

Post image

SLOCitizen's review of Good Boy the other day included some rather unfortunate chicken strips. So it got me thinking last night about where I might find some actually good ones that I hadn't tried before. Lahaina's is a place that I generally skip because I've had some disappointing meals there, but I decided to give them one more chance. And let me tell you, I'm really glad I did. These are definitely hand breaded and they were cooked to perfection. The breading was light and crunchy, the chicken was juicy. The fries were really good too. I will definitely be getting these again. The photo makes them look greasy thanks to Samsung overprocessing but they weren't. (Sorry for the unsightly photo with a bite taken out already lol)

Good Boy - Triple Burger, fries, onion rings, hot hot dog, chicken tenders and swirl soft serve (2 different days - $54.92 total)

Ahh yeah... Good Boy!

I went yesterday (10/15 and today 10/16) - Place was packed both times and the wait time for the food both days was very short. Place gets really loud inside when it's packed too!

Today with friends I got the triple burger that they called the Smasher (not to be confused with smash burger). $12 and totally worth it even if the bottom bun was totally drenched in burger juice - at least it didn't fall apart. It comes with lettuce, but since I thought it was going to be a smash burger, I opted out of the green stuff. I would buy this again. The fries were fresh and crispy - $5 addon for the fries and fountain drink ($17 total for burger fries and drink) + $6 for the more or less mediocre onion rings. Edible yeah, but nowhere near as good as Margie's or Ziggy's.

$15 for the Hot-Hot dog. $12 for the Hot-Hot dog (another redditor pointed out that the price was changed). Well, this dog was made for pleasing photos, not for pleasing eating. Honestly could not taste the bacon on the ultra thin hot dog. Bun fell apart pretty quickly and was overall a big meh. I got the deal with this one too $5 fries and drink. Fries were good, but they were better today because they came fresh outta the fryer. Would not get the hot dog again. I wanted the chili cheese dog but they were out of chili.

$8 for the chicken tenders. Overcooked and dry. Would not get again. Ranch dressing was good.

$4.50 for the swirled soft serve. Good stuff, not mad about the price. Would get again.

The place was packed and had a line out the door at noon today. Yesterday at 1:30 it was packed too, just no line out the door. I wish they used the BIG dogs like Costco has - and yeah I know they could never replicate the cost but at least give me a large dog for the price! Some other friends of mine were in yesterday and they got the Chicago dog and something else. They were happy with the food and the prices, so it just goes to show that I know nothing :)

These words are my opinion, nothing else. If you disagree that is fine. Cheers!

*edited for clarification on prices

*edited price on the hot dog as it changed from when I photographed the menu boards on 10/4 - also, the triple smasher was not on the original photo I took, it is supposed to be $12 and the double smasher is now $10.

Papa Jay's reopened (Guadalupe)

Papa Jay's Southern Que Zine reopened in Guadalupe, Thursdays through Saturdays 11a-7p. It's literally worth the drive on its own. It's Cajun and Creole food from an older couple from. Louisiana. They've been closed for a few years.

I just saw they had their door open and got the sampler platter, and everything was almost sous vide tender. Everything was spicy, including the potato salad. The cobbler serving is huge. Po' boys, jampalaya, gumbo, bbq ribs and tri tip. I kinda wanted to hoard it like a secret, but I'd rather they stay open.

"And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no more. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three."

Seeking creative friends to work on projects together

The short of it is, I like making things and I want to find a crew of people around here to do that with. I'm 27, male, anti hate, anti AI, pro diversity, pro community, etc.

I have been doing hobby game development stuff on my own for a while now, but I would really like to get involved in a bigger, more collaborative project. Although tech is what I'm most experienced with, what I mainly like is problem solving, so I'm open to most kinds of projects as long as their creative and interesting. I have a couple ideas for projects I think would be fun, but I'm more interested in hearing some new ideas.

I think the point of working on things is to get to know other people. I try to be as upfront and honest as I can so that people feel comfortable with me. If you're looking for someone who will grind away to make a ton of money, or go viral, that's not me. I'm here to make friends and meet new people, simple as that. I'm happy to talk about my stance on pretty much anything, I have a lot of opinions so it's not too hard for me, and I really enjoy talking with others about their opinions, even if I disagree with them.

Thanks for reading, DMs are open to any questions about me or project ideas or even just to say hi.

[SLO EVENTS] SEIU1000: state workers strike in SLO?

Hi everyone, I am thinking about organizing a more local strike line for those who are interested in being physically a part of the strike but don't want to drive to fresno.

Between Ash, chp, ccc, cmc, calfire, the dmv, and other departments we should have enough people to make some sort of visual.

If you are interested let me know below!

If you want more information about the strike, why we are striking, and what is and is not allowed go visit:

https://www.seiu1000.org/strike/

I will crosspost where recommended.

There is an official strike line in SLO!!

San Luis Obispo off S. Higuera near the Caltrans area, running from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on that date. N per DLC prez Tammy.

Edit to add in the strike line!!!

Unreliable bus service since MV took over from Transdev

I've been experiencing some frustrating issues with SLO Transit lately, particularly in the evenings.

Recently, the scheduled 7:15 PM Route 1A departure from the Transit Center didn't operate - as a result I had to wait another hour for the next bus.

Then last night, when I boarded the 1A at South Street for the transit center, the driver wasn't sure whether there would be a connecting bus downtown to take me home and had to call dispatch to find out.

Another issue is that buses now frequently change routes when their loop ends at the Transit Center, and drivers don't always know which bus will continue as which route. Passengers are often left going from bus to bus asking drivers which route they'll be operating.

Two different drivers have even encouraged passengers to contact the city directly, suggesting our complaints might carry more weight than theirs.

Occasional disruptions are understandable, but riders should be able to rely on scheduled service without worrying about missed connections or being stranded. In fact, last night the driver told me that a whole group of poly students had been stranded at the bus stop by Kennedy library due to a randomly missing route.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: a driver gave me a card with a number at the city for feedback related to transit matters. Waiting on a reply.
