Software House or Real Estate in Pakistan? Need Serious Career Advice
I’m 21M, studying Software Engineering, and have around 3 years of experience in web development, mainly WordPress and Shopify Liquid.
I recently lost my job and tried finding work in Lahore, but couldn’t get selected despite giving several interviews. After that, I thought of trying real estate. Most companies weren’t interested because I have no experience, but one company finally offered to teach me everything. The only issue is there’s no salary, just commission.
At the same time, I got an offer from a software house through a friend’s cousin for a Team Lead position. The salary isn’t much, but at least I can cover my expenses.
Now I’m genuinely confused. Should I take the software job or give real estate a chance? I’m worried about AI changing the software industry, but I also know real estate isn’t easy, especially when you have no experience and no guaranteed income.
If you’re working in either field, especially in Lahore, I’d really appreciate your honest advice. What would you do in my situation?

Real estate ruined my ability to take a normal car ride, lol.
Real estate ruined my ability to take a normal car ride, lol.
Now I’m looking at houses, wondering who owns them and what happened to them.
When I first started, I’d drive around looking for vacant houses and properties that needed work. I’d write down the addresses and try to contact the owners.
I thought I knew my area until I started doing that.
I found streets I’d never been down. And on roads I’d traveled for years, I started noticing boarded windows, tall grass, tarps on roofs, and mail piling up.
Those things were already there. I just hadn’t been looking for them.
After a while, you develop a little Spidey sense for it.
That’s why I encourage people getting into real estate to get out and learn their neighborhoods. Software can give you a list of houses, but there’s value in seeing them for yourself.
You don’t develop an eye for this business by waiting until you know everything. You develop it by getting out there and paying attention.
Anybody else unable to ride past a rough house without looking twice?
