Discussion User/Post Flairs

When you join the community, you are asked to choose a user flair. You are also expected to tag vocal rating submissions with a post flair. The three main levels are “Beginner,” “Intermediate,” and “Advanced”. These descriptors are vague, and they may be difficult to assign to oneself. For this reason, the mods have decided to post this breakdown to help people decide what level they are at.

If you:
- Have been talking vocal lessons for less than a year
-Have never or barely been vocally trained
-Have never been paid to sing
-Cannot sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Do not know how to sing with proper breath support and physical technique
-Are not confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others

Then you might be a “Beginner”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.

If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for more than a year
-Have had some or a lot of vocal training
-Have never been paid to sing or paid sometimes
-Are confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others for no charge
-Can sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Can sing with proper breath support and vocal technique

Then you might be an “Intermediate”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.

If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for multiple years
-Are extensively vocally trained
-Have been paid to sing multiple times or sing professionally
-Are confident enough in your skill to charge others to hear you sing
-Can sing notes with perfect accuracy after hearing them
-Can sing with excellent breath support and near perfect technique

Then you might be “Advanced”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair

We understand that you may have some overlap with the categories. It is our suggestion that if even one of the traits of a lower level applies to you, then you should consider using that as your flair.

Please comment with your suggestions for how to differentiate more accurately. We would love the community’s input on what should qualify as a beginner, intermediate, and advanced singer. This post may be updated in the future with these suggestions.

Feedback - Beginner Should I start taking my music career seriously?

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m a baby producer/singer/writer who has been busking for about a year now in Vancouver. Through this experience, I’ve been suggested to get myself onto platforms like american idol/the voice/americas got talent, which I haven’t begun to really ponder about doing until recently. I guess one big (irrational) thought that’s always limited me is the fact that I have a softer voice, I’m not a really great belter and my voice sits on the lower alto side of the spectrum, and I assume that these shows tend to favor strong, powerhouse voices more than anything. I do not want that to limit me from growing my career in music that i’ve always dreamt of. I guess my question is, does anyone think I have a shot anyways? Which show would I have the best chances of finding any success? How do singers get their voices out there?
I appreciate any feedback on the vocals too, or any tips on navigating the industry. Here’s my acapella cover of Chet Baker’s I Wish I Knew :)

Resource for Singers Free singing advice

I don't know if this is allowed, but if it's not, feel free to remove this post.

I'm a professional singer that is currently still navigating my career as a singer. But I'm not here to promote my career. Instead, I would love to help other singers, whether you are beginners or advanced singers, through a short 1-on-1 online talk.

And of course, I'm doing it for free. I believe that singing is supposed to be enjoyable, and I believe that everyone can sing. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll DM you the details.

Feedback - Beginner Need honest feedback on my tone and overall feeling

I've been working on my vocal delivery and dynamics, and I'd appreciate some honest feedback. I'd also like to know if I sound nasal, as I've had some issues with that before and can't really tell anymore since I hear myself daily.

Not my best take since I have a cold and messed up a few words.

Hey everyone,

Decided to skip the instruments and setup today and just post a raw, unedited vocal take of Tu Chahiye. Sometimes stripping everything away makes the lyrics hit so much harder.

Let me know what you guys think of the vocal tone and delivery! All feedback is appreciated. 🎙️✨

Feedback - Beginner Blessed- Daniel Caesar

feedback on singing plz?

I have been interested in getting singing lessons, but the local options near me are out of my budget, and so I’ve resorted to learning through YouTube videos. I do feel as if I’m stagnant in my singing abilities, and haven’t grown my voice despite the resources I use. If anyone can give me some feedback, point me in the direction of where you believe I could benefit, I would appreciate it.

some issues I already recognize:
-typically harder for me to use my head voice for higher notes. my voice usually cracks and I’m unable to hold the notes for long
-I think I sound slightly pitchy
-struggling through riffs

Any feedback is really appreciated or any tips on how to overcome some of my current struggles, thank you 🙏

Discussion How am I doing?

Howdy yall

Ive been learning distortion techniques for a little over half a year now, and I leaned into the heavier stuff (metal vocals) but i also want to figure out the more rock/grungy side of distortion.

Is there any advice that you wise sages could impart to me on how to better control this range? How can I better the quality of the sound?

Anyone know how to make a more fluent movement between my clean vocals and the distortion?

How do I get it to a point to be able to switch between the two more effortlessly?

A lot of questions, but i hope some of yall can help.

Don't mind me fumbling lyrics.
