Scratch built ExtraNG 720mm - free plans

The ExtraNG is done, have around 30 flights on her so far, total beast, love it.

The weather has gotten pretty bad though so a real video will take a long time. She easily does what I wanted, high alpha all day at 30% throttle, absolutely brutal climb and roll rate at 3.2 : 1 TTW.

The free plans are here.

As always, if some of you go for building one, I'd be delighted to know how it goes and happy to support with tips.

It’s actually hard to slow it down without flaps. It likes to just keep going it so smooth.

Zohd drift LIon brownout warning

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just a warning if anyone is interested in buying and flying one of these planes.

I’ll preface by saying it flew fantastically and I loved it until this point but recently when testing it out on an 2s 18650 pack and the voltage dropped low enough while on the throttle that the integrated BEC in the ESC browned out, I lost all control and it proceeded to nosedive into the ground resulting in a total loss.

Highly recommend swapping out the esc and adding a standalone BEC rated for lower voltages!

How can I add flashing navigation lights to my Aeroscout?

I was thinking about adding them to the wingtips but I don't want to just slap some LED strips on there and call it good. If anyone makes semi-realistic housings that would be easy to install, that would be good enough for me.

FMX MXS V2 - which motor and battery?

Hobbyzone listing is very confusing. It says 1230kv motor and 3S battery, but the attached manual and the one coming with the plane says 750kv motor and 4S battery. Has anyone bought that plane recently - what battery do you use?
Thanks

1s micro build. Looking for foam template or STL. And some advice

Looking to build a 1s micro plane. Really loved the look and build of Troy McMillans Cessna 170. But just for the STL alone it was $35…

I’m having troubles finding what model I want to use for this build.

I was thinking for lightweight and performance, as a 1s, a flat foamie would probably be my best option. Does anyone have any good patterns or stls for something of the sorts?

Post pics and links if you have any! Anything helps! Thanks so much!

How much trouble am I in here?

Bad catch od my CX5 dlg sent it into the ground, rudder first... hard.

The break is right on the taper for the rudder section.

Some lengthways cracking and lots of frayed carbon.

Ive got no idea how to fix it.

Has anyone has success with a similar break?

Cheers

Spektrum dx6 g3 features? Will it show aircraft battery level

I am thinking about getting back in to flying and bought a umx conscendo. Chat and Google says that this combo will indeed show the battery pack power level. I can scroll over to telemetry and see the rx battery level. Which is 4.2. But it doesn't show battery level, in this case a 3s battery.

How do i fix this if it's a feature that i should have

Where to put “nose art” on a flying wing.

I’m currently wrapping up an alt history flying wing build. it’s supposed to be an extended WWII circa 1946 or 1947 United States jet fighter plane. seeing as nose art was common, I’ve cut the logo off a lil sumpin beer can to use as a pin up girl, but it don’t know where to put the thing given the wing has no fuselage. should i just put it to the left or right of the canopy on the leading edge? out on one of the wingtips? back by the elevator/ center rear of the wing?

Maiden flight of my saito 65 powered pizazz

Lots of work to get this one flying but she roars even on 5 percent nitro!

Hope to put many hours on this airframe

Had to see if it could hang on its prop and it blew my expectations by hovering at 50 percent throttle

Saito 65 13x6 5% nitro blend

How to activate or program Flaperons umx conscendo dx6 g3

I am just getting back into flying and picked up a umx conscendo. I have an old dx 6 g3 and an able to bind it and get the basics working including safe. But i can't get flaperons to work using the stick movements and the gear (A) switch, top back left side. When i go through the sequence i end up turning on spoilerons. The ailerons both point upwards. This is a feature that i will play around with but for now i want flaps. Everything else is working correctly..

Anyone know the fix?

I do remember the dude at the hobby store telling me 2 different things to do and he might have said to do something before plugging the servos into the receiver. Speaking of which, how do you pull this plug out of the board? I want to be able to fully disassemble this for transportation

Thanks

Skynetic altura rudder not aligning

Thumbnail

Got one of these for my birthday and after a set up and a flight the rudder will not align when on, and also not turn to the other side. I've tried replacing the pushrod, rudder, fully trimming to one side, and the other, I've also played with the threaded ball on the pushrod to try to lengthen it. When I turn it on it fully pulls it in and won't go to center at all. I'm at my wits end and just kinda frustrated with it. Photos are it with the servo centered and then with the rudder as close to midline as it will go.

Any tips for jets to move onto?

Post image

A while back I wanted to get into RC jets and edfs and all that stuff, so I asked at my local club for what plane to buy and someone offered me the freewing yak-130 70mm from Motionrc.

I have had this plane for almost 3 months now and I can confidently land it and do some aerobatics.

However, recently I have gotten this ick to buy a bigger better and more impressive plane, but I'm not sure if I should move on to the 80-90mm field yet, also because of the huge cost.

Should I get smaller jets maybe? What should I do?

Looking for FPV RC plane

I’m getting back into RC planes and I’m looking for a good FPV plane. I’ve flown RC planes before so I don’t need a “beginner” plane, but I do want something that is on the cheaper side. I don’t have a small budget but I also don’t want to buy something nice and wreck it right away. I’ve been looking up some options but I see most kits only come with the plane and the motors aren’t even included and it’s all a little confusing. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

First flights with the Texan

For those that had their doubts, I took the Texan out for its inaugural flights by myself this evening and ran through 2 battery packs-flies like a dream but it’s definitely a learning curve! Simulators and guidance from other club members has definitely helped. Have mainly stayed in SAFE but did some aileron rolls in AS3X as well.

How to stop this joystick from Self-centering?

So I'm working on an RC plane controller and need a joystick (this is the KY-023) which doesn't snap back to the middle on one axis for the throttle. Is there any way to remove the spring for example?

Questions from someone who wants to get into this, but for indoor airships

I've really been on the fringe of RC for a while, but never got into it. (Time and money) However the idea to make a small indoor (for large room flight) little airships struck me and hasn't left my brain.

I am into steampunk and thought it would be cool. To make a drone that is mostly a deridgable held up by an envelope, but i feel like I could mimic this would the drone motors that can assist with hovering, because actual lighter than air or zero boyancy is hard at all levels, so I can get it mostly lighter with the helium and have the motors continue to have it "float" with assistance.

I would love to make a chassis that would allow me to use 2 to three party balloons then build a little envelope around it and place the motors on the lower sides like a traditional ridged airship with a motor or two pointing up for altitude adjustments and hovering.

The question: where would I even start with this?

Considered retrofitting a tiny drone like a youtuber did(cant remember his name atm) but I was wondering if there was a better way than buying and breaking vs starting with a controller that I can add onto as I want to add to the complexity of the design. Making it bigger, and adding more motors or axis of control, cameras etc...

Apologies for the scatterbrained scrawl, im at work and needed to just get this out into the world to start the journey of questions.

Starter diy planes

Recently for my birthday I got some parts for an rc plane, A2212 KV1000 brushless motor, 30A ESC speed controller, SG90 servo, matching propeller, XT60 connector, Z-wire, motor mount, rudder horn, and connector protectors. I also got a FS-I6x transmitter and receiver. What is a good starter plane to build? I was thinking the FS simple cub

You guys asked why my 3D printed FPV wing needed 4 motors. Turns out 2 was the answer!

A while back I shared the initial design of my new quad-tractor V-tail FPV wing here and asked what you guys thought of it. Well, after a lot of development and flight testing, I thought I'd share how it turned out!

Quite a few things have changed since that original design, most notably dropping from four 1003 motors to two 1103s.

The quad setup was an interesting experiment, but the interaction between motor thrust, pitching moment, V-tail and elevons made this one a real challenge to get flying the way I wanted.

I've been through multiple aerodynamic configurations, CG positions and control mixing arrangements, gradually working through the problems until I arrived at something I'm really happy with.

The result is VENOM, a 249g, 600mm wingspan, fully 3D printed FPV aircraft that's now happily ripping around at low level doing acro!

Final setup:

  • 2× 1103 motors with HQ T3×2 props
  • DJI O4 Wide
  • Matek F405-Wing WMO running INAV
  • 2S 1000mAh LiHV
  • Four servos controlling elevons and V-tail ruddervators
  • 249g AUW
  • Approximately 7 minutes of mixed flying

The most satisfying part has been getting the aircraft to perform the way I'd originally imagined, even if the route to getting there was rather different from what I expected!

Thanks to everyone who commented on the original design. It's been a really interesting project.

What do you guys think of the final result?
