Recently had a virtual vet appointment for my two rats as they have recurring URIs, and the vet recommended that I buy a veterinary disinfectant solution (this one: https://www.kwikpets.com/products/f10-veterinary-disinfectant-by-f10 ) and a nebulizer, and to nebulize my rats with it...He assured me it is safe, but I'm a bit apprehensive about nebulizing them with a disinfectant, especially as it says to avoid contact with eyes (I know the eyes are not the lungs but still, I have to assume the mist would get in their eyes). There's also absolutely nothing in the product description that suggests using it in a nebulizer, it seems to be made purely for disinfecting surfaces.

Has anyone else ever heard of something like this or tried it on their rats? Does anyone know if it's safe?

I found this in my boys cage yesterday. I can’t tell if it’s a string or maybe a worm. I haven’t seen them have itchy butts or anything, but I’ve also never seen this before. Hope it’s just a poopy/urine soaked string but wanted your opinion and any rat dewormers if you know of any.

I have had my first ever group of rats 2,5 years ago. The moment my breeder send me pictures, i had a favorite. I love her so much! She has survived multiple surgeries and is blind. She is such a momma’s girl and we really have a bond. All the rats from my original group have since passed away. She is in a big happy group with rats from all different ages. She is getting old, physically and just age wise. She is happy but i can just see the signs of aging. I have to add that i am autistic, so i have an extra “issue” with change and loss. I know this is the place where ppl understand the significance of the bond with your favorite rat. I just kinda am looking for some “hopecore” on how to handle your heart rat aging ❤️

As the title says, a friend from scottland sent me a Johnsons cleaner, I saw that it has perfume in it.
I smelled it and it barely smells like anything, compared to the vinegar probably nothing lol.
Im sure I can use it on plastic or metal but i was wondering if its safe for wood?
I typically use diluted white vinegar and a sensitive non perfume soapy cleaner (its almost like dish soap).

Is it acceptable to get this cage (height: 42cm, length: 55cm, width: 38cm) for 2 baby rats temporarily and get a bigger one 2/3 months later or do I give up having rats?

Its been a few days since my baby Erdbeert died, I havent cried after the 2nd day mark, not even come close to it.
The day before I was constantly having to pull myself together at every little thing.
But now I just feel weird, it doesnt ache like it did at the beginning.
Now I feel guilty, like I never cared.
I do have to give myself some credit and understand that everybody griefs differently and considering I have horrible object permanence, even towards other people and pets, I should probably cut myself some slack.
Did anyone else feel like this aswell?
Does this mean im „over it“?

Quando estava no carro, ela começou a fazer esses barulhos parecidos com soluços e dar uns gritinhos

Esse vídeo é dela fazendo esse barulho enquanto eu arrumava a gaiola. Isso é normal? Por ela estar estressada? Ou pode mostrar algo? Ela ainda não tocou na comida e nem na água, desde 16 hrs (já são 19 hrs)

Os: ela também está estatica, só explorou um pouco e depois voltou pro mesmo canto, continua fznd o mesmo barulho

I’m very glad he’s not suffering anymore, I just need to introduce his brother to the other rats. I hadn’t done that yet because I didn’t anticipate this happening so soon

I let one of my babies out this morning for meds and then while they pottered about I sorted out my washing but when I came back they were in the cage again so I petted them while watching a 20 min YouTube video.

I'm not sure how long exactly the time was since my first check of the thermometer (when everything was safe).

it felt a bit warm so I had a look and it said 33 degrees and the humidity was well 30-somthing percent.

The thermometer is halfway up the cage where the sun was pointing directly at it while the top of the cage was in a bit of shade which is where the girls are.

I'm cooling the room now and raising the humidity, they're at safe levels again.

How worried should I be, what should I check for?

This might sound insanely selfish but I just want to know what is best but I was supposed to go to a friend's bday party in about 10 hours, should I cancel that to stay with them or if they've shown no signs of distress by then are they safe?

I just clicked on the link without looking and realized my 10 y/o son was sending me a YouTube video of a menstrual cup. Apparently he thought it would be a great cup for our mischief 😂😂

She was running under the couch, and it is not safe for her to be under there (holes in the wall she could sneak into etc) and I grabbed her, but her tail was all I caught. I gently gently pulled her about an inch backwards and then grabbed her body. She is acting completely normal but I just feel terrible. I know it can hurt them to have their tails tugged at all and I just feel so mean. But if she got lost in the walls or stuck under the couch I can only imagine all the terrible things that might have happened. Has anyone had to do this before? Next time should I just let her crawl under and hope she finds her way out?

Rat beans or mouse beans?

Like sometimes I look at them (to be fair like 99% of the time when I look at them) and i feel like a proud dad 🥹 I'm literally working on getting their "school" pictures up on my wall atm.
