Almost every day, we get someone's take on a potential new Quake game or on how to move the franchise forward. Name an angle, and we've most likely seen it here before. So whether you want to see a reboot of the first game, a continuation of the Strogg storyline, a multiplayer-only game, or whatever else you can come up with, this is the place to discuss it. The same applies to which studio should handle it, what kind of game it should be, the technology it should use, and so on. Basically, anything regarding the future of the IP goes here. Our revised rules now also point to this thread so that when we remove another post about Quake's future, the author can continue it right here.

Hi everyone! I’ve fully completed Quake: Dawn of the Machine and figured out how to get the true ending. I’ve also worked out how the levels are interconnected — where you can go from each level, how to get there, and in what order.
I noticed that there’s still very little information about this online, so I decided to make my own guide.
I’ve included the link below.
Steam Guide - version 1.3. Added a waypoint from Revelation of the Arcane to The Rune Nexus.
I apologize for any grammar mistakes.
Taking into account the feedback here and elsewhere, I made the following changes:
FIX 1.1 Corrections have been made to the Deathknight Head acquisition sequence
FIX 1.2 It is now specified that only one rune, the Rune of Sacrifice, is required to visit The Sundered Column, House of Delusion, and Mist of Torment. The location of the Super Axe has been added. The map now includes a path from Of Shattered Minds to The Runic Nexus (from the room with the Deathknight Head). This does not affect progression using the previous version of the map, but makes it easier to navigate the game independently
ENG 1.2
Quake: Dawn of the Machine
Walkthrough sequence for getting the true ending
The Thirtieth Passing
Through the First Arch
Dawn of the All Mother
Into the Abyss of Time
Veils of the Old Ones
Of Shattered Minds
The Haunted Tower - optional
Requiem
The Matriarch of Decay
Revelation of the Arcane
The Sacrifice - obtain the Rune of Sacrifice
The Runic Nexus
Through the First Arch - open the runic gate using the Rune of Sacrifice
The Sundered Column - obtain the Rune of Chaos
The Runic Nexus
Veils of the Old Ones - open the runic gate using the Rune of Sacrifice
House of Delusion - obtain the Rune of Madness
The Runic Nexus
Veils of the Old Ones - take the normal exit
Of Shattered Minds - you need to find the Deathknight Head to activate the Bloody Nightmare difficulty, the Rune of Sacrifice is used for this
Requiem - open the runic gate using the Rune of Sacrifice
Mist of Torment - obtain the Rune of Sorrow
The Runic Nexus
The Nightmare Machine
The Sleeper Awakens - normal ending
If you meet the requirement of obtaining the Deathknight Head to activate the Bloody Nightmare difficulty, you will be sent back to the beginning.
Through the First Arch - obtain the Bloody Shotgun
Dawn of the All Mother
Into the Abyss of Time
Veils of the Old Ones
Of Shattered Minds
The Haunted Tower - optional
Requiem
The Matriarch of Decay
The Crooked Village - obtain the Bloody Super Shotgun (new game+ only)
Revelation of the Arcane
The Sacrifice - obtain the Rune of Sacrifice
The Runic Nexus
Through the First Arch - open the runic gate using the Rune of Sacrifice
The Sundered Column - obtain the Rune of Chaos
The Runic Nexus
Veils of the Old Ones - open the runic gate using the Rune of Sacrifice
House of Delusion - obtain the Rune of Madness
The Runic Nexus
Requiem - open the runic gate using the Rune of Sacrifice
Mist of Torment - obtain the Rune of Sorrow
The Runic Nexus
A Dancing God - true ending
THE END

There was this tiny Quake 2 mod called Railwarz I played as a kid. To me, at the time, it was the Formula 1 of first person shooters. For 20 years i've dreamed about those late night matches, but the mod fell by the wayside. I just had a baby, so with my downtime I rebuilt a physics-equivalent game with a little Italian twist. It's been a fun project, i'm not trying to make money off of it- i just want to play again. I did fall down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to create some realistic bots.
Anyways, if anyone wants to run some sweaty 3v3s and 4v4s i'm hosting a server at https://playgrappoli.com/. I'm losing like $50 a month, so won't keep it running too long. But if i get some traction i will gladly pay for it in perpetuity just to play.
Does the Quake remaster support player names and chat messages using alternate language characters, such as Cyrillic (for Russian)?
If so, I wonder how quakec code would handle such player names when printing pickup item messages.
I only found this:
utf8_enable, off by default “for compatibility”. When it’s on, cvars, network strings and QuakeC strings are all UTF-8, and Quake’s 256 characters (ASCII aside) map to Unicode’s private range U+E000–U+E0FF.com_parseutf8, uses the same U+E000 mapping, and needs a TrueType font to draw the extra characters.language cvar offers English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, but not the remaster’s Russian.I wonder how the remaster handles names with characters that aren't present in the available Quake-themed fonts, when the game is configured to use the classic font style.
I just released my improved HD conchars texture.
You can get it here.

I played both games on the hardest difficulty.
Don't know if this the common consensus, this my first time interaction with the community.

Given how much more modern the experience is that I'm aiming for, gameplay-wise, I'm honestly not sure if this will have any appeal among this community given how strong the purist sentiment of old-school shooter fans can be, but I'm having a great time making this and am enjoying playing it, so I figured it couldn't hurt to share my progress so far.

Hey everyone, this might sound completely crazy and you probably won't believe me, but I just have to get this off my chest.
About six months before the 30th-anniversary update, I was constantly googling and searching for any rumors or leaks about a new Quake expansion. There was absolutely zero official or credible info at the time.
Then, this past summer, I had a very vivid dream. I was playing a Quake level I’d never seen before: dark corridors, a mix of classic monsters and completely new enemy types, new weapons, and—here is the wildest part—the total enemy count on the screen was exactly 296 💀.
Fast forward to August. I randomly open Steam and see that id and MachineGames dropped the Dawn of the Machine expansion. I downloaded it, started playing, and my jaw hit the floor. It felt like a massive dejavu. The dark vibe, the changing geometry, the new guns and mobs—it was almost exactly what I saw in my dream, except the final game version just looked a bit "sharper" and more polished than my subconsciousness could render.
Now, to be fair, I haven't found a single map that has exactly 296 enemies. But the sheer density of mobs—especially on Nightmare difficulty—easily goes way over 200 on some levels, which is still insanely close to what I saw.
Did MachineGames literally break into my brain via Inception to steal my dev-kit blueprints, or has my brain officially turned into a Quake engine?
Let me know what you think, because this whole coincidence is driving me insane.

Hey there! Posting this again, with permission of the mods.
I just completed The House of Delusion on the 30th anniversary expansion Dawn of The Machine and I was wondering something. Somehere midway through the level there is a sort of square shaped sewer with a ton of knights that turn into zombies when killed, but more importantly there is a few cells on the sides that contain Quake Rangers. They can't be freed as far as I know, and there is no text, no sounds, nothing regarding them in the level. They just wander aimlessly and dissappear/teleport when shot.
Is there any info on this? Or is it just a simple map doodad?

Ever since external server browsers went out of fashion, I miss being able to monitor the multiplayer activity of all of my games in one place.
Since I've been running some dedicated servers for Unreal Tournament 99/2004 and Q3A, I always wanted a way to just monitor them all in one place like GameSpy3D allowed you to do. So I wrote a classic-style server browser for modern Windows called LameSpy. Check out the video demo and the website if you are interested: https://lamespy.org

Slipgate Classic recreates Quake's start map and the first three maps of Episode 1 on GoldSrc, using Deathmatch Classic's weapons and monsters.
New in 0.1.2: saving and loading (F6/F9), working difficulty selection, Shambler and nailgun fixes, no more forced vsync or gamma, and a smaller download.
Needs Half-Life + Deathmatch Classic (Steam). Unzip so qdroom sits next to valve and dmc.

I have made a new version of qbsp, the tool mappers use to create new maps. This new tool uses a server model, where you aim the builder to a map, and is always load in memory, this help optimizations tremendously, since only the modified parts need to be compiled. Making creating new maps somewhere between x5 and x54 times faster.

In my attempts to try out new art methods I used a paint brush with bleach on one of my old cotton shirts. Kept it simple for my first time to see how it’d turn out. Have any ideas for a more complicated design?
