Discussions About Procreate App A drawing app redesign shouldn't make basic tasks feel harder

• Upvotes

One thing that makes a big interface update frustrating is having to relearn where everything is when you've been using the app for years.

Artists build muscle memory around familiar tools, gestures, and menus. Even small changes can interrupt the flow when you're used to drawing without having to think about where every button is.

A redesign can look cleaner and still make the actual drawing experience worse if it adds extra steps or makes frequently used tools harder to reach.

I don't mind apps changing and improving over time, but the basic workflow should remain intuitive. The interface is supposed to help you focus on your art, not make you fight the app just to get something done.

Discussions About Procreate App A simple habit that can save you from losing hours of work in Procreate

Before making major changes to a drawing, duplicate the canvas and keep one copy untouched.

This is especially useful before resizing artwork, merging layers, experimenting with major color changes, or trying a new technique that might be difficult to reverse later. Even if the undo history is usually reliable, it isn't a substitute for keeping a clean backup of a project.

It's easy to get caught up in the drawing process and forget that a single canvas can represent hours of work. Having an untouched version makes experimenting less stressful and gives you the freedom to try things without worrying about ruining the original.

A tiny workflow habit, but a worthwhile one for anyone working on detailed illustrations.

Discussions About Procreate App stops working mid drawings

honestly dont know how to show it because you would have to see it in person, but ill be working on drawings and then for some reason it just .. wont work?? like ill try to make a line and it wont do it. except i can just make little dots by tapping, and thats it. i keep reopening the app and ill think its back working but after one line it goes back to not working. its so frustrating and lately ive been having so many problems on pocket, and with the new update i hate to say it but considering switching apps. the new update is bad and i keep running into issues ive never had before, and ive been using pocket since 2023. has this been happening to anyone else? i dont use apple pens or anything just to add, only my finger

Discussions About Procreate App What’s one Procreate feature that completely changed how you approach drawing?

I feel like Procreate has so many tools that it's easy to stick with the same brushes and workflow for months without realizing how much more you could do with it.

Sometimes a small discovery can make a surprisingly big difference, whether it's using clipping masks for cleaner shading, experimenting with blend modes, learning better ways to select and transform parts of a sketch, or finding a brush that changes how you approach texture.

I'm especially interested in features that improve the actual drawing process rather than just adding effects at the end.

What's one Procreate tool, shortcut, or technique that genuinely improved your art workflow? It could be something obvious to experienced artists but that took you a while to discover, or a lesser-known trick you think more people should try.

I had started off using Procreate by watching James Julier's tutorials, getting good at it and dropping it due to my busy schedule. Back to basics (watching his tutorials) and trying something amazing!!

I solely use Procreate for 90% of my drawings (all of the drawings in this post are 100% done on Procreate). Been doing digital since the first time I got an iPad in roughly 2014, it’s been my favorite medium since. First started using Procreate maybe 5ish years ago? I dont exactly remember. Before that I was on sketchclub, and before that i was on an app called Spraycan 😬 iykyk. I enjoy good ol pencil and paper some days, but it just can’t beat the workflow that Procreate has.

I’m primarily an illustrative portrait artist and character designer. I absolutely loathe backgrounds, and could use some advice on how to make them more enjoyable 😅

I usually post on FB, but I’m considering finding a new platform to post on due to Meta’s upcoming term changes. Sooooo, let’s see how this does on here?

Still learning Reddit’s layout. I’ve only ever used it for getting answers to really specific questions that confuse google and figuring out how to fix stuff 🤣

I need Procreate technical help Large scale artwork

Would love some help/advice: I need to create a 10ft x 10ft illustration for a backdrop. I always work in Procreate, but obviously that size is too large to print in 300dpi. I’ve never worked this large before - how should I go about this? Thanks!

This new layout is horrendous. I have two major school projects and a commission I’m working on and I don’t know what to do. This will take me SO long to figure out. It’s genuinely awful

For this one, I took inspiration from where I’m from, southern Spain, with its courtyards, fountains and plants full of flowers 🌸 What do you think? Which Pokémon should I draw next?

I know you can get this effect by putting an overlay layer on top but I was wondering how to apply it to the brush itself?

Discussions About Procreate App Is there a way to maintain colour shade while turning the opacity of a layer down?

Exactly what the title says. I’m wondering if I can keep the shade of the colour I’ve put down while turning the opacity of the layer down without having to mess around with HSB for it to still not be correct.
Thanks!
