One was more evil than the other, and thatâs exactly why I loved them. The way they kept blaming each other while simultaneously covering for one another was amazing, because you could never really tell where their loyalty ended and their self-interest began. They were both shady, manipulative, and full of secrets, and they couldâve been connected to practically everything: from the NAT Club to Cape May, from the night Alison disappeared to the murders and all the cover-ups that shaped Rosewoodâs history.
Unfortunately, the only scene we ever get of them together is Jasonâs flashback, and itâs insane to think about all the potential the writers left unexplored. Their friendship couldâve connected so many seemingly unrelated storylines, creating a web of alliances, betrayals, and secrets that wouldâve made the entire series feel much more cohesive. Imagine two women like them working together behind the scenes, each with her own agenda, willing to cover for one another when necessary but also ready to throw the other under the bus to save her own skin. Wouldnât they have made an incredible villain duo?
I hate how they ruined CeCeâs character and completely abandoned Melissaâs. They both had their own stories, connections, and an enormous amount of narrative potential, yet the writers never managed to make the most of either of them. Theyâre genuinely my two favorite characters in the entire series, which makes it even more frustrating to think about what they couldâve become.
These two women couldâve accomplished so much together. They couldâve been the link between the NAT Club, Alison, Cape May, the Rosewood familiesâ secrets, and the A game, turning a bunch of disconnected revelations into one massive conspiracy. Melissa and CeCe had the potential to become one of the most iconic and dangerous duos in Pretty Little Liars, and the writers wasted it all.
