General Steam Next Fest & demos

Hi all! I wanted to make this post since Steam Next Fest is now in full swing, and I want to set clear expectations for r/playmygame.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting on this sub to self-promote, hoping it'll boost their standing in the Steam algorithm.

First, let me remind everyone of the purpose of the sub:

"A place for indie developers to share their freely playable games for feedback!"

This sub exists so you can find playtesters to try your prototype, tell you what's working (or not), what bugs you may have missed, etc.

It is not a sub for self-promotion (with an exception for Trailer Tuesdays). If we suspect your intent is to advertise, your post will get removed. Repeat offenders will get banned.

A quick reality check, and why self-promo doesn't make sense here:

  1. With 4,400 posts in the past 30 days, that's about one post every ten minutes. The odds of your post getting seen in the first place are pretty small.
  2. There are other subs that are better suited for that. They exist to advertise your game. r/gameDevPromotion is one.
  3. Other devs, generally speaking, are not your target audience. They may put in 15 minutes to help you out, but it rarely converts to sales.

Let's give developers who actually need playtesting the visibility they need, so when you need feedback on your new project, it's easier for you to get it as well.

Good luck with your demo, everyone.

If you are BRAND NEW to Reddit and want to post or share your game, read this beforehand!

Hi new Redditor! We're excited that you want to post about your game and have people play it. However, there's something you should know before you do.

Reddit will ban you if your first few posts/comments are links to somewhere.

Reddit has a robust, over-exuberant filtering system, necessary but for groups like this, it can be a slight pain. When you post your game and it's your first post, Reddit ASSUMES FIRST AND DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS LATER! You will be automatically shadowbanned, which means unable to post or even potentially comment.
Then we get a lot of posters coming to us in Modmail, asking " Why did my post disappear?" Nearly all Modmails are about this issue, roughly 3 a day.

Reddit is also a bit secretive about certain processes - how to get un-shadow-banned is not even really known to be possible. We don't see the record of shadowbanning at all so unless we know of the name and check it regularly, we wouldn't see it un-shadow-banned. We don't know how long your account needs to be open or how much Karma needs to be on it in order for the Filter to stop paying attention to you but we suspect around 100 Post and 100 Comment Karma.

So, if you are new to reddit and want to share your game - DON'T! Not yet, please go post cool/helpful/ positive comments and posts in other groups. Playtest other people's games here and comment on them prolifically. Once you have some "Reddit Post/Comment Karma" under your name first, THEN post your link to your game! You'll be less likely (but not immune, never immune) from being shadowbanned that way for sharing your game.

Edit: If AI recommended you post your game here....Don't Yet until you've developed your account as a good karma community member! This really isn't a "post and ghost" platform, it's community-first. AI doesn't realize this about Reddit.

P.S. This group is 100% responsible for getting accounts banned (when you don't do the steps above) but it's literally out of our control to reverse. So please....don't modmail us unless you KNOW you are not shadowbanned, you have the required karma, and yet your post is not showing up. Only then we can be of some help.

[PC] (Web) Woking on a 2D Metroidvania about Faith and DOUBT

Game Title: Doubt

Playable Link: Play Doubt here!

Platform: PC (Web, Windows, MacOS)

Description:
When a boy starts finding out that the world as he knew it wasn’t as certain as he once thought it to be, his nights begin to grow ever more despondent as he fights off his encroaching doubts,
striving to maintain his paling faith.

Fight your doubts in this hand-drawn, 2D action-adventure where not everything is always as it seems. Explore a boy’s dejecting psyche through miasmic dreams, making choices where the “right” answer isn’t always clear.

The game plays as a exploration, action side-scroller using resource systems (stamina and magic bars) to add a simple extra layer of decision making when engaging in battle.

The choices made, explicit or not, shape the boy and his dreams. In the case of the currently playable build, choices will grant different buffs and de-buffs to the boy.

Doubt's inspirations pull mainly from the Dark Souls series as well as Hollow Knight.

What's playable is a Test Build to help direct the game in a better direction through feedback, like Early Access but for free!

[PC] (Windows) Angels vs Angels — a free team shooter in a transforming cathedral. Looking for playtesters!

• Upvotes

Game Title: Angels vs Angels

Playable Link: Steam

Gameplay: Video

Platform: PC — Windows (Steam)

Description:

AvA is a team shooter set inside a cathedral that transforms as players complete objectives. Two teams fight to collect diamonds and deliver them to gates. Completing a gate triggers a transformation of the cathedral, changing the battlefield during the match.

The gameplay combines gunfights, vertical movement, and teamwork. Push toward a gate, protect a teammate carrying diamonds, or intercept opponents before they complete their objective. Collecting and delivering diamonds gives your team something to fight for throughout the match.

The current version is free to play on Steam. I’d appreciate feedback on whether the objectives are easy to understand, how combat and movement feel, and whether the cathedral transformations make matches more interesting. Reports of bugs or confusing moments would also help me improve the game.

Description: A Free Demo - A cozy deduction puzzle with a new mystery every night. Drag the suspects onto a night porch until every witness statement is true, and the arrangement points to the culprit. Every case has exactly one answer.

I am the sole developer and have created the Mothlamp imprint to test small ideas and iterate on odd thoughts and gimmicks that fluttered into my head.

This one tested very well on social media, but as a solo developer those provide so little feedback.

I'd love some deeper feedback. I know this sub is primarily developers and developer-adjacent folks, so if you would, I love a little feedback on the design. it's on itch as a free web game demo. It plays fine on mobile to my testing.

[PC] (Web) Panopticon — inspect, test and classify anomalous objects in a short 3D browser game (Control fan game)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Game Title: Panopticon

Playable Link: https://supertweedo.itch.io/panopticon

Platform: Web browser (desktop, mouse required)

Description: You're the agent on duty at an intake airlock for a secret bureau that contains paranormal objects. Each object rises onto your bench: turn it over in 3D, sweep it with a resonance probe, check it under UV light. If that's not enough, send it into the test chamber (light, darkness, sound, a remote arm, or a technician walking in), but every test costs time and strains containment for the whole shift. Then classify it: Ordinary, Altered or Object of Power. Let something anomalous out and it's a containment breach.

It's a short prototype: one shift, about 10 to 15 minutes. I'm mostly looking for feedback on clarity (did you understand what to do?), the examine/test balance, and whether you'd want more days. There's a "Send feedback" link in the game, or just comment here.

Unofficial, non-commercial fan game inspired by Control (Remedy). Not affiliated with Remedy.

[PC] (Web) Looking for feedback on our free browser strategy game: conquer the map tile by tile, 1v1 or 4 players [Iron General: Online]

Game Title: Iron General: Online

Playable Link: https://irongeneral.online

Platform: Browser (Web)

Description:
Iron General: Online is a free, turn-based map-conquest strategy game that runs in your browser. No download and no account needed: just open the link, create or join a room and start playing.

Each match takes place on a tile-based map of Europe. You start in a corner of the map and expand tile by tile, building up your forces and pushing back your rivals until one general controls the field. You can play 1v1 or in 4-player free-for-all matches, against friends or bots.

There are two game modes:

  • Classic: Risk-style battles decided by dice rolls, quick and easy to learn.
  • Modern: no dice and no luck. Units are hidden and battles are points-based, so it’s all about planning, reading your opponent and bluffing.

Create a free account (just a nickname and password, no e-mail) to earn points from wins against other players and climb the global leaderboard on the homepage. Classic wins give 10 points, Modern wins give 50.

We’d love feedback on how clear the game is in the first few minutes, which mode you prefer and anything that feels confusing, unfair or broken.

Description:

Ghasaq is a browser-based 3D first-person shooter survival game that I have been developing with AI-assisted tools. It combines real-time 3D graphics, physics-based gameplay, and interactive survival mechanics in a game that players can try directly in their browsers without downloading a traditional game client.

The game uses Three.js for 3D rendering, cannon-es for physics simulation, and Vite for the development workflow. Its features include physics-based interactions, airdrop mechanics, friend summoning, and Arabic language support.

My goal is to explore the possibilities of browser-based 3D game development and build an engaging interactive experience that players can access easily. I am continuing to improve Ghasaq and would appreciate feedback on the controls, performance, gameplay mechanics, and overall experience.

You can play the game directly through the link above. I welcome constructive suggestions about what works well, what needs improvement, and which features would make the game more enjoyable.

[Mobile] (Android) [Android] I couldn't afford therapy, so I built an app where you can put anyone's face on a punching bag and beat it up.

Game Title: Smack It

Playable Link: Smack It!

Platform: Android

Description: Hey everyone. I’m going to be honest, I built this mostly for my own sanity. After having one of those weeks where absolutely everything goes wrong, I just needed something to punch. It’s a free Android game called Smack It. There is no deep lore or complex gameplay here, just pure, unfiltered stress relief.

You simply upload a picture of whoever is currently stressing you out—your micromanager, your toxic ex, or anyone else testing your patience. Then, you slap that photo onto a digital punching bag and go to town. To make it even more immersive, you can record your own custom hit sounds, which makes the whole experience weirdly therapeutic and hilarious.

I built this to let off steam, but I wanted to share it with anyone else having a rough week who needs to violently tap their screen for a few minutes. I am specifically looking for feedback on the "game feel," the user interface, and how satisfying the impact physics are. Let me know if you manage to break it or what features you'd add!

[Mobile] (Android) I'm a solo dev — my quiet hex-merge puzzle just launched, and I'd love your honest criticism

Game Title: KRUG

Playable Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mojoguildgames.krug

Platform: Android (Google Play, currently in closed testing)

Description:
KRUG is a quiet hex-merge puzzle game. Think 2048, but reimagined on a hexagonal board and built for calm, focused play rather than a race against the clock.

You place numbered tiles on a hex grid. When adjacent tiles sum to a power of two (2, 4, 8, 16, 32...), they merge into a bigger tile. Plan carefully, because the board fills up fast and one bad placement can block your path forward.

A few deliberate design choices:

  • No timers, no lives, no fail state pressuring you. It’s meditative by design.
  • A hex grid instead of a square one. Every tile can have up to six neighbors instead of four, so merges open up in directions that feel different from classic 2048.
  • Minimal visuals and calm sound design. Nothing flashing or nagging you to keep playing.
  • No ads interrupting a run, no forced monetization loops.

I built KRUG because I wanted a puzzle game I could actually relax with, not one designed to spike your cortisol. It’s currently in closed testing, and I’d love a few of you to try it and tell me what isn’t working: confusing mechanics, unclear tile combos, anything that breaks the calm. Brutal honesty over politeness, please. Happy to test your apps in return, so drop a link to yours and I’ll check it out.

[PC] (Web) I built a free browser version of Wavelength with real online rooms — feedback welcome

Playable Link: https://wavelengthgame.com/

Platform: Web (browser — desktop and mobile, nothing to install)

Description:
I built a free browser version of Wavelength, the party game about reading minds. One player is the Psychic: they see a spectrum (for example, Hot ↔ Cold) with a secret target hidden somewhere on it, give their team a single clue, and the team moves a dial to guess exactly where the target is. Land in the bullseye and you score big — miss, and the other team can steal points by judging which side of your guess the target was on. The fun is in the debates the clue starts.

My version runs as real online multiplayer in the browser: open the game, create a room, and share the join code or QR code. 2–16 players can play from phones or laptops, with no signup and no download. It uses the classic rules with a growing set of built-in spectrums, plus custom prompt packs so your group can write its own.

Games are quick, it is completely free to play, and I would love honest feedback: does the room and join flow make sense to a first-time player, does the scoring feel fair, and what spectrums should I add next?

GAME TITLE: Hangtime Games
PLAYABLE LINK: http://hangtime.games

Hey, I'm Pete one of the people behind Hangtime Games (r/HangtimeGames). We are a tiny family run startup. Basically our family kept playing the same few games every holiday (wife's family is Indian and specifically around Diwali time we do a TON of family game nights close to Diwali). We used to do a lot of physical board games and card games but more recently we have been playing digital games for groups and found most were more expensive of complex than needed, so we started to build out our own at http://hangtime.games

The process:
You open hangtime.games on any TV or laptop, everyone joins on their phone with a 4-letter code, and you're playing immediately. There's no app needed (we might build an optional one later), and players don't need an account to play (hosts need one if they're using launch pack games, but there are free games available that will always be free).

Right now we have seven games, and three are free.

  • Doodler (like Pictionary...very kid friendly, tested with our own kids) - FREE
  • Hang Five (like Wordle but multiplayer) - FREE
  • Trivia Board (like Jeopardy) are free - FREE

And then we are also offering a launch pack with 4 more games for $5 total:

  • Who's Lying? (like a mafia /among us style game)
  • Best Answer Wins (like apples-to-apples / cards against humanity; defaults to family friendly)
  • Bowl Game (if you've ever played fishbowl/salad bowl in person at a party)
  • Rummy (like I said... wife's family is Indian. This one was actually the one we built out to play remotely so she could play with her grandma)

Anyway we would love for anyone to play our games to try out and like I mentioned 3 of the games are free (ideally forever).
The "launch games" are all included in the $5 price... and we figure anyone who buys in this year should be rewarded with half off any future launches (that's me getting ahead of myself).

PS if you would like to try some of the paywalled games without paying, we would love feedback so please let me know and I'll get you a code so you can try them.

Happy almost Halloween party season, and Happy Diwali season!

General Attempted to rebuild a game i previously created using Claude - looking for genuine feedback

Game Title: VOID BREAK

Playable Link: [https://lsc26.itch.io/void-break\]

Platform: Browser

Description: VOID BREAK is a top-down arena survival game that runs in your browser. You pick an operative, hold the arena against waves of robots, and try to survive to wave 10. Every level up gives you a choice of three upgrades, you spend credits in a shop between waves, and every 10 kills charges a Void Pulse that blasts everything near you back. A boss turns up every fifth wave.

I sent an earlier version to CrazyGames and they rejected it for quality. About 160 people played it on itch and nobody left a comment, so I had no idea where it was going wrong. I've since redone the art, added sound, added a quick controls screen on your first run and gave it a clear goal.

Looking for feedback on the first minute:

  1. At what point did you stop or feel like quitting?

  2. Were the controls clear without reading anything?

  3. Did you understand what you were trying to do?

Free to Play

Involvement: Solo project. I came up with the game, the design and the changes, and built it with Claude, since I'm not really a developer. All the art and sound are generated in code, no asset packs.
