Official! PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT MEDICAL QUESTIONS, INCLUDING REQUESTS FOR USERS TO INTERPRET YOUR ULTRASOUND

We have seen a big uptick in posts from new users seeking medical advice, and users posting their ultrasounds asking other users for opinions.

This is a violation of rule #3 - No medical questions. Any such posts will be removed.

This rule is in place for everyone's safety. The rationale is that we a small mod team, we're not medical professionals, and as such we can't properly vet the information that is being provided. Putting aside for the moment the very real risk of trolls deliberately misleading people, it's far too easy for even well intentioned misinformation to slip through. This poses a risk not only to the user who asks the question, but also to people in the future who might find these posts after searching for information on the same topic.

A safe and healthy pregnancy is far too precious a thing to risk by allowing unfiltered medical opinions to potentially impact the decisions of expectant parents - these questions need to be addressed by a qualified health care professional.

To be clear - posts and comments discussing your medical experiences are perfectly acceptable. As a rule of thumb, as long as the threshold from "here's what I experienced/here's what I did" to "here's what you should be doing" isn't crossed, the sharing of your experiences is more than welcomed.

Also, please keep posting pics of your (professionally confirmed) multiple pregnancy ultrasounds. We do enjoy those!

experience/advice to give Bottle washers are a waste of money

Post image
• Upvotes

I have 3 months twins. I found I save energy hand washing in one pull at the end of the day, or just loading up the dishwasher in the morning after I emptied the daily dishes.

They only hold up to 4 bottles, if mama has to pump at the same time, what are you expected to do, just run bottle washer loads all day long? We have hard water, our bottle washer was doing like 6-8 loads per day. It started clogging after 2 months.

I found as soon as we returned our bottle washer and either hand washed them all at once as needed, or threw them in the dishwasher for a one hour cycle, I felt infinitely more free.

There's my hot take. Less is more.

loss & greiving - TRIGGER WARNING Lost one twin today

Modi twins. Had ttts at week 21, growth restriction of one twin and brain damage of another twin, PPROM at 26+6, hospitalized and birth at 28+5 due to early sign of TAPS. One twin is in nicu at 680g and another twin although >1kg, survives only less than a day due to brain issue and palliative care.

Still, I thank god and all the doctors/medical professionals along the way. Our girl in nicu is fighting and growing!

advice needed Triple Feeding Solidarity

• Upvotes

My twins are 1 month old, 0 weeks adjusted and we’re in the thick of triple feeding still.
My supply is more than enough for 2 now but they won’t take enough at the breast for us to drop the top up bottle. We tried and ended up with Twin B completely inconsolable after a few feeds. Twin A did better, but is larger. I have boys, they’re both over 7lbs, A is 7lbs 14 oz and B is 7lbs 2oz. They latch well, but just stop at some point but suck down a bottle. We are at a 40ml top up down from 60ml 2 weeks ago.

For those of you that were able to transition out of triple feeding into mostly breastfeeding with occasional bottles how long did it take? Just feeling very discouraged and this is a loooooot of time and work. My husband is back to work on Monday and I am feeling overwhelmed with continuing to do this solo.

good vibes, smiles, & giggles They are here 🩵🩵

My mo-di boys arrived monday at 12.04 and 12.06! I started induction process on the saturday at 36w1d and after 48hrs with a balloon, we were not even 1cm dialated. I made the decision to have a cesarian because by that point, I just wanted to meet my babies.

The surgery was so fast and easy, hearing my boys cry and scream was music to my ears.

We were diagnosed with fetal growth restriction at 16 weeks and were transferred to a specialist hospital for additional monitoring. Based off scans, they said the placenta split was 65/35,. There were talks of potential need for termination of the smaller boy for a few months, but by the 28 week mark, his dopplers were so strong, they said he will at least make it out but have potential long term affects. I was prepared to potentially have to give birth anytime from 28 weeks.

When they arrived, there is an obvious size discrepancy, some platlet issues snd other small factors we are monitoring but they are both doing so well and so strong. We will likely be in hospital another week, but so far so good.

We got an image of my placenta from the specialist hospital after they conducted studies on the placenta to better research sfgr and turns out the split was actually 75/25 and they were shocked he not only made it here but that i was able to carry to 36 weeks.

Im not a religious person but something in the universe wanted these boys here with me and im so glad, im 1000% obsessed with them 🩵🩵

life, home, and baby tips & tricks Last day of work

About to be 36 weeks with di/di twins and just had my last day of work today! I am excited to have these next days/ week to relax and get prepped for these babies to come. I have had a few high blood pressures but nothing so bad that they have to intervene in anyway. Babies are looking great on growth scans and NSTs! When did everyone else stop working before their bundles of joy came?

advice needed Complete and utter exhaustion at 18 months

My twin girls are 18 months old and I have never felt so exhausted in my life. I went to my primary and all of my labs are normal and I’m now seeing ENT due to some dizziness issues. I’m thinking it all stems from exhaustion of staying at home with 18 month old twins. Did anyone else go through intense exhaustion like this? I’m starting to think something is wrong with me.

It’s nearing winter time and we won’t be able to get outside as much and all they do is cry all day long. I would take newborn twins 20 times over then toddler twins. They sleep through the night. Take a good nap in the afternoon - so I know it’s not my sleep that needs adjusted. I don’t think I can keep going on like this. Help.

One of my twins was diagnosed with a positive moro reflex at 8 years old (among other diagnoses). I googled and I shouldn’t have. Anyone else have an older moro positive kid?

advice needed Twins can’t be on same schedule. Help.

my twins are 4 weeks. we’ve been following advice of every twin parent and “always wake the other twin” to eat. It’s just not working. they may eat the same time, but one will stay up for 2.5 hours and the other will go to sleep right after the feed. then the next feed happens, the 2.5 hour awake twin will finally sleep after, then the other twin will stay up three hours. its never ending. sometimes after a feed, one will go to sleep and the other wants more 45 min later, so we have to either feed him or make him wait. But if we wake the other twin then THAT one starts to only take an ounce then start snacking every hour.

but the big issue is them staying up for 2-3 hours during the day. I don’t get it

please. when does this end.

experience/advice to give Possible TAPS

Hello everyone!

I would appreciate your experiences if anything similar happened to anyone.

I am 26+4 pregnant with MoDi boys, so far very uneventful 🤞

They are also big babies, and are measuring 1020 and 1090gr, so very similar in size.

During my last check up, there was a difference in MCA flow speed, one was 31, and the other one 39, giving MoMs of 0.9 and 1.14.

They are in range, but my OB/MFM was not happy and said there there are signs of communication between them based on those speeds.

There is also additional factors that I am hoping have affected the reading, my BP was 160/90 (that happens before every US, as I am panicked) and baby who had 39 was possitioned really wonky for the reading, no additional measurements are taken.

I will be hospitalized in 10 days, since that is the standard procedure, but I was wondering if something similar has happened to anyone, and how did that go?

Thank you! 🫶

support needed Still triple feeding 5 months in… am I delusional?

My boys were born at 36 + 5 and both spent a few weeks in the NICU. Baby A came home on a strict feeding plan that required me to pump and bottle feed.
I was given incorrect advice at the hospital as to how often I should be pumping at the time and I think this seriously impacted my supply.
Anyway, I’ve just realised I’m 5 months in and still triple feeding. Admittedly we haven’t always triple fed we’ve gone through stages but pretty much my entire life is feed twin A on boob, feed twin B on boob, feed both a bottle and then pump. Repeat this every three hours.
In my head I’m doing this to try and build my supply, is it even possible this far in? I had twin B who was refusing the breast for about 4 weeks, I had mastitis for 6 weeks and for that time I was pretty much just pumping and bottle feeding. I’ve always needed to supplement with some formula as well.
I produce about 1.2 L a day but that’s pretty much just enough for one baby. My ultimate goal would be to just breastfeed both babies but I can just feel that dream slipping away now that we are 5 months in :(

advice needed 18 week anatomy scan for triplets

Hi everyone!

I had my anatomy scan done today and everything is looking good for babies except that my MFM now believes that two of my babies are identical and sharing one placenta and twin B is measuring smaller than my other two. Twin A measured in the 44th percentile (8 ounces) and Twin B is measuring in the 9th percentile (7 ounces). These are the two that are now believed to be identical. My third baby twin C is fraternal and is also at 44th percentile (8 ounces).

She went over possible growth restriction and TTTs. Everything just made me super nervous. Has anyone else had this measuring difference between babies and what happened? She said it’s still early so anything could happen but just want to hear anyone else’s stories.

advice needed 9 week old twins need to be held at all times

Hi all, in need of some advice please - my 9 week (3 weeks adjusted) mo/di girls want to be held at all times and refuse to sleep in their cribs. My partner and I are exhausted and would love to hear from anyone else who has experience of this and how you managed.

My girls are pretty much only awake for feeds at the moment, but will only sleep while being held. We can usually get them to sleep in their cribs after their 3 and 6 am feeds where they wll sleep for 1hr 45 ish, but other than that, they refuse to be put down in their crib/carrycot/moses basket. We have tried all the usual tips - waiting until they are in a deep sleep, putting own drowsy but awake, dim lights, white noise, warming the mattress etc. but nothing seems to help. They will occasionally settle in the crib at other times, but only for a few minutes max. We can get them to settle by patting and shushing, but they will cry again after a few minutes until they are picked up.

I know they are still very young, but is there anything we can do? Is this just a phase? Will it get better when they can stay awake for longer stretches?

My partner goes back to work in a few days so I will be looking after them solo during the day and for some stretches at night. I have no idea how I'm going to sleep, shower, or do anything other than hold them if they won't be put down.

Help!

support needed Just looking for support

I’m 36+6 with a scheduled c section for 38+2. I’m just having a hard time lately. I so would love to go into spontaneous labor and get this show on the road, but I’m also dreading my 2nd c section.

My first, a singleton who’s now 2.5 was an unplanned c section and it just wasn’t the labor and delivery experience I imagined. I’ve heard all the moms who say their 2nd planned c section was worlds better than their first emergent or unplanned one, so I’m really counting on that! I feel so scared going into this c section because I have irrational fears of something going horribly wrong, leaving my daughter and twins without a mom. I’ve talked about my anxiety with doctors, I know it’s irrational and fear based, but still…

And I’m terrified about all the questions that are impossible to answer, like what will life look like when the twins are here, will we ever sleep again, will postpartum anxiety crush me again etc.

Any words of wisdom, good vibes, internet hugs - whatever! would be super appreciated right now.

advice needed Di/Tri Triplet Pregnancy

Hi everyone. I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant with di-tri triplets (two identical babies sharing a placenta but in their own sacs, and one fraternal baby). This is my first pregnancy and I’m very aware of the high risks associated with this type of pregnancy. I’ve been feeling really anxious about everything and would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation, whether you’re currently pregnant or have been through it before. I’m trying to get a better idea of what to expect and would really appreciate hearing both the good and difficult experiences.

A few things I’m curious about:
Did you experience any complications, especially TTTS, TAPS, or growth restriction?
Did all three babies grow well, or were there significant differences in their growth?
How far along were you when you delivered?
How long did your babies spend in the NICU?
Did any of your babies have disabilities, developmental delays, or long-term health issues?
How has everyone been doing since birth?

I’ve met with an MFM specialist who recommended fetal reduction, and I’m really struggling with the decision. I would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation and what went into your decision, whether you chose reduction or continued with all three babies.

I know everyone’s experience is different, but I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and scared right now. I’m just hoping to hear from others who understand this situation and can share their experiences, including how things turned out in the long run.
Thanks in advance.

advice needed Physical job when pregnant with twins?

Hello, just wondering what peoples experiences are with a physical job when pregnant with twins?
I’m a pub/restaurant manager so the job is very physical and there’s only so much admin I can do.
I’m on a 36 hour contract. On Fridays I work a 13 hour shift which I know is less than ideal but I do certain shifts as I have a 3 year old. I’m currently 16 weeks, when I’ve googled it it’s basically saying it’s dangerous for me to be doing that 13 hour shift when 16 weeks pregnant with twins.
I’m already high risk with mo/di twins and a history of pre term labor at 30 weeks.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t know what to do and I don’t want to risk my baby’s. I can’t afford not to work or go off this early.

experience/advice to give After years of IVF and many losses, our single embryo split. Identical twins! 🤯🤯👶👶

I still can't believe I'm typing this. Today is pregnancy loss awareness day and I went into my scan this morning literally shaking from trepidation.

We've been doing IVF for years: 7 retrievals, 6 transfers. This is my sixth pregnancy, and we have one living child, our 2-year-old 💛

After so much loss, I've learned to hold every early scan at arm's length.

We transferred ONE PGT-tested embryo. We’ve never transferred more than one. We never thought this would happen. At my first ultrasound last week, they saw one gestational sac with two yolk sacs, and I honestly didn't let myself believe it. I convinced myself it was a double bleb misdiagnosed as a twin pregnancy. Today at my heartbeat scan (6w5d), there they were: TWO babies, both measuring 6w4d, with heartbeats of 124 and 126.

After everything, the idea that our one little embryo became two feels completely surreal. I'm equal parts overjoyed, terrified, and in total disbelief.

They're monochorionic, and the two yolk sacs make mono/di likely. We'll confirm amnionicity soon.

Would love to hear from anyone who's been here:

Anyone else have a single embryo transfer split? 👀

Any tips for navigating twin pregnancy after loss?

My plan is to take it one appointment at a time. IVF takes so much from you, so I’m really trying not to let it steal the joy of today with the worries of tomorrow.

I’m a medical professional so trying not to spiral with the high risk part of twin pregnancies. I’m also early 40s so naturally more high risk than a younger person.

Thanks for letting me share. I'm still processing! 🙏

support needed Early onset growth restriction

I had my di/di twins‘ anatomy scan today at 21 weeks 0 days and found out baby boy is growth restricted (8th percentile) and baby girl is just above the line (11th percentile). Baby boy has a marginal placenta cord placement as well. I’ve had such terrible HG that I know I’m not fueling the three of us well. My OB sent an “urgent” request to a high risk MFM and I’m freaking out. We really went through it to get to this point with secondary infertility and now a really hard pregnancy and I’m just terrified since it seems like early onset restriction is bad bad bad. My OB said he wasn’t concerned yet, but that didn’t really reassure me.

How did you handle this sort of thing? Did it turn out ok? Because right now I’m just spiraling downward and trying not to google too much.

advice needed HELP! Cannot seem to hit the sweet spot between overtired and undertired for naps...

My twin boys are almost 5 months actual, 3.5 month adjusted. Just for reference, the pediatrician said they are pretty much caught up to their actual age in development. They are often able to self soothe as well. Some days naps are really really hard. I am not sure maybe there is teething in the mix too, as they are chewing on their fingers a lot and drooling a lot more.

But basically as the title says, I am either one step too early for naps or 3 steps too late and then it is hard to put them down. Some days I go try before they even show any signs and it works, but mostly they are just too interested in the world and won't sleep. I don't know, I just have a terribly hard time seeing the moment when I can be sure like ok, time for a nap now and it won't be like me fighting alligators in my arms for 20-30 mins to get to a nap.

When does it get better with naps? Any tips? HELP!

support needed My Baby Brezza was making bottles too diluted

Hi parents, has anyone used a Baby Brezza with the wrong setting?
I’ve had mine for a month. For the first three weeks, I used HiPP Combiotic formula for my newborn girls with the machine on setting 6. They seemed to have a lot of colic, so I asked their pediatrician to switch their formula. He recommended Frisolac Comfort Multio, but they started wanting to eat every hour and never seemed full.
I stayed at my mom’s house for a few days and prepared their bottles manually using the scoop, and everything was fine. When I got home and started using the machine again, they weren’t satisfied after their feeds again.
The machine was on setting 3. I weighed a manually prepared bottle, which weighed 250 grams, and one prepared by the machine, which weighed 245 grams.
I’ve already contacted their pediatrician, and we have an appointment this coming Monday, but I’m so anxious that I might have harmed my babies :(

support needed 33 weeks + 2, early labor?

Hi all,

Support needed. I’m 33 weeks+2 with my modi girls. Sorry if it’s TMI but Yesterday I felt generally “off” and kept having an intense sensation to poop. I pooped probably 5-6 times until there was none left but still getting the sensation. I also have the sensation when I move that one of the babies is just going to fall out of my butt.

I ended up going to L and D triage and they confirmed I’m having contractions but without consistent patterns and I was 0 cm dilated. They gave me fluids and sent me home basically saying to come back if the contractions form a consistent pattern or my water breaks.

Anyone experience similar? The contractions definitely seem movement induced whether it’s me moving or the twins. Some of them are intense to the point it takes my breath away. It hurts to even walk at this point.

advice needed Panicking about solo parenting twins

My husband is in the military and he's being deployed in December for 6 months when our twin girls will be 17 months - 23 months. I'm totally panicking about it and I just don't know how I'm going to manage. Bedtime takes both of us every night at the moment. They love nursery but they come home so overexcited and usually one of us is trying to wind down one who is totally wired and comfort one who is overtired and crying. Then non-nursery days they often don't seem tired enough and get frustrated. I can't figure it out!

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for solo bedtime routine at this age? I don't think our routine is really working - currently milk in their cot, white noise, dark room and try (and usually fail) to get them to sleep with patting and shushing. I'm trying not to rock them as I obviously can't do that by myself but sometimes we have to to get them to calm down.

And just any tips for managing in general. I'm very nervous for toddler tantrums on my own and I'm worried my patience will break without any time to unwind. I work full time so I'm in work when they're in nursery. I do have my mum nearby to help but she's not confident with them both on her own so I don't see how I will ever really get a proper break. I know there will be plenty of single parents or parents where they have to do a lot by themselves so I'm sure it can be done!

Any help appreciated 🙏🏼

good vibes, smiles, & giggles I am due January 30 and

today, a stranger asked me if I was having a Halloween baby. Nope, just expecting twins. I feel similar to the size of a school bus. 😘
