Frequently Asked Question (See FAQ) Has anyone tried an antidepressants that helped them?

I don’t have time to wait for things to get better in maybe 10 years. I’m in my early 20s, a really pretty girl, and I have lots of goals in life. My brain is broken, my emotions are numb, and my libido is gone.
My cognitive issues terrify me because I’m forgetting more and more of my life day by day, and it’s been almost 3 years since I stopped taking my SSRI. I can’t remember anything, I have trouble recognizing people right away when I see them, and I have many other limitations. I miss feeling something again so much—no matter what it is.
I want to travel and see the world and just live my life.
I want to build a career and start a healthy family.
I'm so afraid I'll never be able to have children…

I want to take medication again that makes me feel a little more alive. Please, please, please—can someone tell me which antidepressant helped them feel better again??

Symptoms - Non-sexual PSSD, extremely dry skin and hair loss — minoxidil isn't helping. What should I do?

As many of us with PSSD experience different physical symptoms, I've been dealing with extremely dry skin, and now I'm also experiencing significant hair loss.

I've tried minoxidil, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

My questions:

Has anyone with PSSD experienced extreme skin dryness along with hair loss?

Has anyone successfully stopped or reversed hair loss after PSSD?

If minoxidil doesn't work, what other treatments or investigations should I consider?

Could this be related to hormonal changes, nerve dysfunction, or something else?

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar and found a treatment that helped.

Feedback Requested/Question B-12 deficiency-is it safe to take supplement?

Recent bloodwork showed I was pretty deficient in vitamin B12. I started a sublingual B12 supplement that’s a high dose 2000mcg, which is what you’re supposed to do for deficiency to correct it. However, I’m aware that it acts pretty significantly on increasing neurotransmitters like serotonin and potentially exciting nerves. I’m already feeling some effects, for example, extremely vivid dreams and restless sleep when I was taking it at night for the first four days. Switched to the morning to help correct that issue but I’m still concerned if I’m overloading myself with serotonin? My PSSD symptoms are primarily numb genitals and lack of emotion. Any feedback is appreciated.

Update MHRA Public Assessment Report

Post image
19 Upvotes

35-page report on the assessment conducted by the MHRA of antidepressant-related suicidal behaviour/persistent sexual dysfunction and the subsequent risk minimisation measures that are to take effect in 2027.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6acf6ab62de3184ccf8b80f2/PAR_Antidepressant_EWG_Review.pdf

I’ve attached a screenshot of the proposed new warning against persistent sexual dysfunction, which includes use of the term ”PSSD”. I’m hoping this will lead to much more awareness, raising questions about the state of those who weren’t offered these same chances at informed consent.

It’s still not good enough and doesn’t do much to help current sufferers, besides affirming a small portion of the debilitating symptoms we wake up to and have no choice but to deal with daily. There are also issues with the phrasing that greatly frustrate me.

But it’s a start, and will hopefully encourage more patients to speak out.

Personal Story thank you guys, you saved me

I was about to take my first dose of escitalopram (10 mg) prescribed by my psychiatrist. I literally have the pill sitting on the table in front of me, but after reading about the potential side effects especially PSSD, I'm starting to think my social anxiety isn't severe enough to justify the risks lol

thank you all I'll do my best to spread awareness about this. I really wish psychiatrists were more upfront about these risks, cause mine said it's totally safe one of the safest SSRI

Health Anxiety and PSSD Lisdexamfetamine / Amphetamine-D / Amphetamine-D,L "Can reverse sexual dysfunction caused by psychiatric illness and by some drugs such as SSRIs, including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, delayed ejaculation, and anorgasmia"

You can read about my PSSD-situation here:

M32: Helpless case, in hell for > 10 years after Citalopram : r/PSSD

I meanwhile sent > 1.000 e-mails to psychiatric, neurologic, urologic, andrologic and pharmacologic societies worldwide and to people who work in this field to ask for any kind of help. I got a reply from a sexual therapist from Munich who suggested Lisdexamfetamine. His source is: Stephen M. Stahl: Prescriber´s Guide. You can download the first version of this book here: Prescriber's Guide - Children and Adolescents: Volume 1: Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology [1 ed.] 9781108446563, 9781108561402, 1108446566 - DOKUMEN.PUB

In the book, the three substances Lisdexamfetamine / Amphetamine-D / Amphetamine-D,L are claimed about: "Can reverse sexual dysfunction caused by psychiatric illness and by some drugs such as SSRIs, including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, delayed ejaculation, and anorgasmia".

Has anyone of you tried one of these substances?

Symptoms - Sexual How common is numbness beyond just erogenous sensation loss?

Just to clarify, I’m non-PSSD, got my syndrome from ketoconazole and Covid, share all the symptoms with PSSD/PFS/PAS and others.

I noticed that some of us, regardless of their syndrome, have lost not only erogenous sensation of their genitals, but also tactile and temperature sensation. I, for example, barely feel touch, pain, hot and cold temperatures in my penis.

Most of you only lost temperature sensation in their glans for some reason, but an acquaintance of mine with PSSD whose numbness is similar to mine just told me that there are plenty of cases that lost all sensation in the entire genital region. So, how common do you think that is?

Symptoms - Sexual Men who don't have morning erections, do you also have erectile dysfunction (ED), or only absent morning erections?

I want to hear from as many men as possible who are experiencing these issues.

Do you have absent morning erections but normal erections during the day?

Do you have both absent morning erections and erectile dysfunction (ED)?

Do you have ED but still get morning erections?

Please share your experience and, if you're comfortable, your age and how long you've been experiencing these symptoms.

I'm looking for as many responses as possible because I've already lost many years trying to understand my own situation. Your answers could really help me understand whether other men experience the same thing.

Please take a moment to respond, even if it's just one line. I'd genuinely appreciate it.

Feedback Requested/Question "PSSD" is not what I'm living with

PSSD does not do the actual syndrome we are living with justice. I WISH it was just SD. I often wonder if people would understand us if we were named something like PSD (Post-SSRI Syndrome) or even PSNS (Post-SSRI Neurological Syndrome). What do you guys think?

Symptoms - Non-sexual Can PSSD cause inability to visualize or imagine things in your mind? Does it reduce your natural creativity permanently?

This mostly NON-sexual.

Does anyone else feel like they cannot visualize things in their mind anymore?

Is this the same as "Aphantasia"?

Frequently Asked Question (See FAQ) Has anyone undergone a penile Doppler test? What was your experience?

I have a few questions for people who have undergone a penile Doppler ultrasound:

What happens during the test? Could you explain the procedure step by step?

Who usually performs it—a urologist, a radiologist, or another specialist?

Is it safe? Are there any side effects or risks?

Does the test involve an injection into the penis? If yes, is it painful?

Why were you recommended this test? Was it for erectile dysfunction, lack of morning erections, or another reason?

How long does the test take, and how uncomfortable is it?

Is it possible to undergo the test without an injection?

I'd appreciate it if you could share your personal experiences, especially if you were initially nervous about the procedure.

Thank you!

How do you deal with extreme restlessness, agitation, and tic disorders?

I'm so ashamed to be around people that I'd rather just isolate myself all the time.

It's so hard to suppress this restlessness, and I always focus on it

Feedback Requested/Question Is it really worth visiting a doctor at this point?

Well, the title speaks for itself.

I would consider my symptoms relatively mild (so far I think I only have a lack of sexual arousal and that is it) and I recently I found this professor that is sort of into neuroscience and sexology and it looks really promising.

But honestly, I do not know what to expect at all. Like, what do I want to get from this? Obviously, all of us want our symptoms gone once and for all and just forget this like it was just a bad dream but I understand this might never happen. I understand that there is no cure and experimenting sometimes makes things even worse. I am not saying experimenting is totally worthless, but I have to know the what and why.

This makes me think: what should I expect in reality?

I totally understand that even this doctor might simply laught it all off and simply attribute it to "depression" and "psychological issues" like all doctors do, despite the fact that I have had a totally normal, almost stress free life in the past 3 years and never felt/been diagnosed with depression.

I also want to point out is that I totally understand it is worth shooting a shot and it is not a question of money at all since I have a pretty good health insurance. But I am also NOT that type of person who would do something only "because it does not hurt". I should know what I am doing it for and not waste my energy and time.

What do you guys think?

Frequently Asked Question (See FAQ) Why am I so sensitive to everything after developing PSSD?

Even when I try taking certain vitamins in small doses, my body seems to react strongly. Either my skin becomes even drier or thiner, I experience strange fat loss throughout my body, my hair becomes even thinner, or my mood deteriorates.T here are other things as well that I can't remember right now.

Everything affects me dramatically. What mechanism could be behind this?
