General Day vs Cignetti on fourth downs

I still can’t believe that Cignetti tried a field goal on 4th and 6 from the 37, with a kicker whose career long was 49. Meanwhile, Day rolls the dice on 4th and goal at the end of the first half down 7-3, and we call a great play and get in. Then on 4th and 1 in the second half, we go play-action and bomb it for a TD.

Just a reminder: Day is a goddamn good coach, and Cignetti is not infallible.

(Who am I kidding? If we hadn’t gotten the first TD, you’d all be on here complaining that he didn’t take the points.)

If it’s 1 on 1 he’s open, if it’s 2 on 1 he’s sort of open, if it’s 3 on 1 he’s covered, if it’s 4 on 1 y’all are benched if you cannot convert the down 😂. Seriously though, we scored this TD to Jackson on 4th and goal but after reviewing tape…this is an insane level of pulling coverage.

Cool to see our best defensive player talk about his upbringing, being disrespected as a recruit, and how much he loves being at tOSU.

The criticism of Luke Fahey is ridiculous....

I'm not going to judge Fahey too harshly about today's game. No one should. And some of the stuff I've seen people saying is quite frankly appalling. And this isn't a "THEYRE JUST KIDS" post.

He's not only a Freshman, he's a True Freshman. He probably thought he'd be the #3 going into the season and didn't think he would take a meaningful snap for a couple of years. Of course you have to be prepared, but it can't be easy to mentally prepare for thenmoment he found himself in today. In fact, I don't know HOW someone prepares for that moment

Just take a look at what was stacked against him:

It was away. And it was the craziest crowd he's ever played in front of his entire life. The Indiana defense had us figured prior to Fahey ever coming into the game. So the offense was already struggling to move the ball, especially via the pass.

Despite what you would read on this sewer of a subreddit, Julian Sayin is a good QB. Like an ALL TIME good QB. He has the highest completion percentage in NCAA football. Not in 2026. EVER.The guy has completed and absurd 73.4% of passes. And, despite what naysayers say, he's not just dinking and dunking down the field. He's the most accurate college QB ever while being 9th in the history to college football in passing yards per attempt (9.66 if you're curious). And Indiana's defense held him to 51.7%. (Sayin did have 8.10 yards per attempt in today's game. Which is remarkable, all things considered).

It was also during the most important part of the game, Hell, it might end up being the most important part of either teams, or both teams, entire season. That means Indiana's defense was putting in maximum effort to stop him every play. And everyone on that Indiana sideline were pulling out all the stops.

Indiana's game plan was already to go after the QB as much as possible. And they were already effective at shutting down Jeremiah Smith, taking away his best option.

All this AND it was against the best defensive line and arguably the best overall defense in the country. Fahey could start every game from USC next week, through the end of his 5th year and it's possible that he never faces a defense that's better than the one he did today.

That's A LOT of odds against a True Freshman coming in to take the first meaningful snaps of his career. The only way I think the situation could have been more daunting is if it were a post-season game and the Buckeyes had multiple injuries at OL, WR, TE and RB (that is giving me flashbacks to the Georgia game..

BUT now he's gotten it out of the way and for the time being he's the #1. I've heard from people that know people inside the football program that he has a remarkably high football IQ and is a sponge when it comes to understanding new playbooks or concepts. This situation also means that game plans will have to be changed to match his strengths and hide his weaknesses, instead of being thrust into a plan that was convicted for Julian Sayin.

General Jeremiah Smith & gravity

Hey, I have no history as an OC and just a fan who watches OSU so I'm just asking a question that in my opinion can be understood outside of football and that is gravitational pulls.

Jeremiah is so much of a threat, just like any Superstar in any sports like LeBron, Curry, Messi, etc

When Jeremiah was out there against Indiana, they are so afraid of him going over the top 1 on 1 that they have 2 opposing players going his direction every single play. The game of football is 11 on 11 and if 1 pull 2, would that not create a wide open void?

Why not send a dynamic player like Legend Bay into that wide open void? Imagine having Jeremiah pull 2 DBs and having Legend in at RB or Slot slip into that void and using his elite dynamic ability to make plays after the catch. Why not abuse that void until the opposing team single cover Jeremiah, then you go over the top to Jeremiah again?

General I like Fahey

Now I will say, I haven't seen enough to form a concrete opinion. But right now, I like him a lot. He seemed very confident, and I think Sayin is gone for the season to be honest. Luke will step up and I still think we are going to win the Big ten, Fahey and Smith are gonna run all over TTUN, and everyone else we play this season.

General The hit that injured Sayin..

Pretty gnarly hit getting your arm pinched behind your shoulder by a LB coming full speed. I don’t expect him back anytime soon, especially since it’s his throwing shoulder.

General Proud of Our Guys

Today felt like a Tressel-era win. Proud of our defense and special teams.

You take away the touchdown by Indiana after the Sayin pick (believe they started that drive on the OSU 7), the defense gave up 8 points and widely shut down the Indiana run game. I’d like to see Patricia get a bit more pressure dialed-up, but it’s hard to argue with the results today.

Really happy to see Connor Hawkins make both of his kicks in a big game. Good on that kid.

Offensively, not having Jakobi Jackson was felt today. I love that guy — and he does a wonderful job running hard North/South. Austin Siereveld’s injury was also felt today. He’s a leader for the offensive line team, and his absence was certainly felt.

Today’s win was huge, buying us a bit of wiggle room for the rest of the season. Instead of being backed into a corner, we’re full steam ahead — and we have 2 full weeks to get healthy and gameplan to put Fahey in a position to be successful in LA.

Best wishes to Julian. Get well soon man! I’m sure he’ll be a great source for Fahey as he preps for USC.
