Absolutely fell in love with Terradon Turquoise while testing colors for my necrons, what an amazing contrast paint.
Would love some advice on the weapon and energy effects in general. I want to go for a royal purple instead of the standard necron green for my whole army. My first try was with Luxion purple but it didn't turn out great. Are there colors from other brands that are better for glow effects ? Any hacks for beginners to achieve something decent ?
Appreciate any input = )

As someone that plays both armies, I’m unsure whether I think Necrons or k sons are a more interesting depiction of ancient Egyptian imagery/themes

Just got my 2k army all built and have been unsure what paint scheme. Decided on synthwave in the end.

I had to admit, working on a Necron army is hella more fun than I’ve initially imagined. Need to rush to 1K so I can put these dudes on a table!

The geomancer and psychomancer are two units that are commonly discussed in this sub due to their cool rules. The biggest gripes with them now being support units.
recent posts about the geomancer don't talk about the geomancer as a competitive piece but rather just how you can get any usage out of it. and in general when it is ran they only run it with immortals.
So my query has two parts. Is the geomancer worth running in this terminator heavy meta and why do we not consider running them with canoptek macrocytes?
______________________
After having played against a couple terminator heavy lists that utilize terminator storm force, which is the +1 to charge and has the strategem for end of opponents turn uppie downie, terminators, especially shooty terminators are hard to deal with. If you are running an army with few units, as in a couple of big ctan, or immortal/warrior bricks, ddas, and the silent king, you are going to have very little screening supports. In general the best screening/frontline units that necrons have are warriors with orikan and techno wraiths. everything else can general be picked up too easily and or doesn't have enough models to screen well. Shooty terminators are especially interesting as their new rules give +1 AP within 9 which with new deepstrike is always available. Deathwatch terminators also get additional buffs depending on doctrine. And most terminators have rapid fire when within 12 inches. Then from there they do have the option to roll an 8 inch charge, which some terminators have built in reroll charges with a bunch of power fists. especially with nerfs to overwatch and the fact that most reactive moves need to be within 8" there's nothing you can really do to handle a deepstriking terminator unit unless you have great screening. have no screen and they can blow something valuable of yours up, screen poorly and they could remove your screen and live the following turn to uppie downie again. (sure this is more of a tactical thing rather then a ability check). and then there is also teleport homers as well.
a 12 inch deepstrike denial completely blocks all of their abilities. It prevents any additional AP, it can prevent rapid fire, for special munitions like with deathwatch some of it also only works within 9. and even with +1 to charge a 12 inch deepstrike denial means they still need to roll a 12. Additionally if you can manage to not shoot the geomancer unit (i.e avoid having them fight another skirmishing or chaff unit) deepstrike out of 12 will in most cases guarantee that they cannot even shoot you due to hidden (within dense terrain ofc). The only thing that would be hilarious is if the geomancer's pin ability was a shooting phase ability, so that you could then pin rapid ingressed terminators for -2/-2 which is awesome even in doctrines.
so i think in a vacuum, the geomancer does solve the terminator matchup. even if you do have proper screening units, a geomancer pushed up with the unit can hinder and output into that frontline unit. a you can really force where your opponent would be able to deepstrike.
now criticism on this analysis. the geomancer only solves this issue with regular deepstrike. rapid ingress pretty much negates the geomancers kit entirely as with move + advance the terminators can get all of their buffs back and like mentioned earlier cant be pinned either. And due to the way that the teleport home works, even with the geomancer being near one it is pretty difficult to pretty a free rapid ingress even at that. 1 command point can entirely negate 140-145 points of tech and advance the game state in their favor as they remove a tech piece meant to deal with terminators and even acquire objective control as well (0 command points if they teleport homer smartly). Additionally, there's nothing to say that you cannot manage how your opponent will deepstrike without a geomancer, its just that you will likely need to build your lists different, smaller unit to screen and trade with, and positioning well to prevent 9inch deepstrike threats (limiting deepstrike areas to reduce number of models that can shoot, ensuring cover, etc) . but the idea of a 12inch denial definitely makes it easier.

The next section will be about points and attached units. I for one have a pretty bad handle on points as in what makes a unit good for its points, when a nerf makes them too expensive to be considered more often. And especially in the context of metas, when a abilities make them more useful despite whatever points they are.
the geomancer by itself is 75 points. Its defensive profile is not its standout point, its shooting is pretty poor, and its melee has some potential to do some damage. Its abilities are where it stands out. Whether or not the 2-3 abilities you have (depending on bodyguard) are woth 75 points is not something im sure of. any commentary on that would be great.
given that its a support unit, you HAVE to consider the price of bodyguard units when running it. the three options starting from cheapest total is immortals (140), canoptek macrocytes (145) and warriors (160).
Immortals: cheapest, most damage output of the bodyguards, middling survivability compared to macrocytes, but have the weird movement difference between geomancer and immortals. count as battle line so hand of dynasty can allow for advance shoot and action
Canoptek Macrocytes: middling damage output, worse survivability with lower toughness and not many wounds, lower OC, have a couple interesting ablilities and provide scout 8 to the unit
Warriors: most expensive, middling damage output, decent survivability due to number of wounds, OC, but have the same issue with movement but benefit from being battleline as immortals.
___________________________
for unit choices, I was going to say how scout 8, having the whole unit move 8 is so good with the geomancer, but when i think about it it doesn't really seem all that great? if you move the maximum towards the enemy with scout and movement, you are pretty far up the board and likely very alone. the opponent doesnt need to deepstrike anything, they could send a small skirmishing piece like JPIs to pretty easily clean them up. Having them zone out your expansion could be pretty good, but most deployments have the expansion very close to home, maybe minus search and destroy layouts and thus immortals could also get the job done. The only benefit of the full 8 move is that you can more easily keep up with fast moving units like wraiths, ddas, silent king, skorpekhs, lokhusts, and then prevent anything from deepstriking on them. Again you can also do this with an average advance role from immortals and if in HOD can still action and even shoot if need be. The other caveat to moving all the way directly to the enemy is that the opponent is very unlikely to leave anything worth pinning visible. after turn 1 sure, but the scout ability then basically has no benefit.
the only other case where the scout move could be useful is when your opponent has access to a turn 1 deepstrike. I beleive some armies including SM have enhancments or strategems that allow this? but thats pretty niche, and hard to see how that would have value in most cases.
so from the points that i bring up, the scout 8 doesnt seem to provide much value, but the potential of having it in niche scenarios could justify the 5 extra points for it and the synergy of HOD you would lose.

TLDR: Geomancer with either immortals or canoptek macrocytes could provide great utility into the terminator heavy meta, not sure if theres actual benefit to taking canoptek macrocytes of immortals .

Since the Triarch Praetorians are our equivalent of Custodes, I thought of giving them a weapon in a similar vein as a Guardian Spear. What do you guys think?

Here's my first Necron painted, a Royal Warden for a painting competition at my local store. Theme was "green" and it didn't do too well with the popular vote but thought it might be appreciated here as I was extremely happy with him!

So this is a sketch of my OC necron overlord. And I want to kitbash him using an indomitus overlord and/or Imotekh as a base and need suggestions of any capes on any models from any GW range that could be used to make the cape of his.
TLDR: Looking for a clean cape for indomitus overlord/Imotekh & I'm running out of ideas

Now I will preface this by saying I’m on a losing streak. However, I have played a lot of games and have found that we are in a decent space.
What I’m putting here to ask is simple: what are we playing and running that has worked and what hasn’t?
Second question, what secret trick of the trade are people using that you’ve found little others use but works well for you ?
Fun place to discuss those weird and not often used tactics to help us all get better ! :)
