Rode from O’Neal to Valentine. Only seen 4 other cyclists in the two days on the trail. Shout out to the central bar in Stuart. Best food and hospitality on the trip, and only place that wasn’t playing Fox News. Some beautiful sights on a long trail.

Nebraska Jim Pillen banned zero trans women from girls locker rooms

Because there was zero trans women playing women’s sports in the state of Nebraska.

He “solved” a “problem” that literally didn’t exist anywhere in the entire state, and this is apparently the big accomplishment of his previous term. Because he played football. Or something.

I guess this is great if he can get you to vote for him for that and forget that he spent all our money and the state is broke.

In September’s round of budget requests submitted to the State Budget Division, the State Fire Marshal’s office said it would have to resort to cutting staff positions, again, and reducing training programs if it faced 8% budget reductions.

Lincoln Wedding Venues

PSA to all Nebraska wedding couples: Country Pines in Lincoln is a beautiful venue, BUT: if you’d like a welcoming, happy, low stress environment for not only YOU but also your vendors…don’t.

Power tripping snarky owners. Rude to vendors, rude to your wedding party. There’s so many wonderful venues in the area. If country pines is on your list, keep looking.

If you're interested, you can message me on Reddit or email me at [ariellez@kff.org](mailto:ariellez@kff.org).

I won't be using any comments under this post or elsewhere in this group, only info I directly receive from interviews.

Former Nebraska Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey and Academy Award-nominated actress Debra Winger shared a highly publicized, high-profile romantic relationship during the mid-1980s.

Edit: he was single and it was consensual and I think it was pretty damn cool.

Politics Song for the Ricketts-Osborn race

The other day I heard a new Ricketts radio ad that is a little ditty about Osborn. An attempt at a catchy banjo tune that basically says Dan Osborn is a Democrat. That's the best Ricketts can do at this point I guess.

Anywhoo....I got to thinking that we really need a tune for the campaign to express our hopes for the outcome. This is what I came up with, and it goes with the melody for "Living On a Prayer."

I do not own the rights to the song, in case you were wondering.

Ricketts never worked on the docks

His hands are soft and neat

His life has been a treat

It’s true….so true

Ricketts runs to daddy all day

Daddy says to Ricketts just listen, Petey it’s okay, I’ll pay….

He’s got to hold on to what he’s got

Ricketts doesn’t care if you make it or not

He’s got his money, and that’s a lot

For luck….He’ll give it a shot

Oh, we’re halfway there

Oh, oh, Osborn’s got a prayer

We’ll take our votes and we’ll send them out there

Oh, oh Osborns’ got a prayer

EDIT at 4:05 PM:

Hi folks – wow. I'm blown away by your interest here.

It's 4pm, and I'm going to answer a few more questions before I head out to my town hall in South Omaha (would love to see you there!)

I'll try to answer questions submitted by the end of the day while we're on the road for the Sandhills leg of our 93-County Tour over the next few days.

ORIGINAL POST:

Hello, r/Nebraska! Dan Osborn here. I'm running to beat billionaire Pete Ricketts and give Nebraskans the representation they deserve in the U.S. Senate. I'm a lifelong independent, a Navy and Army National Guard veteran, and a mechanic who believes I'll have a better chance of fixing D.C. than a billionaire.

I'm verified with the mods, and I'll be answering questions starting at 3pm Central / 2pm Mountain today, October 14th. Fire away!

Help! I was pregnant, accused of being responsible for a death, and eventually fired. Now I’m running out of time to find an attorney in Nebraska.

I’m honestly at a loss right now, and I’m hoping someone here might be able to help point me in the right direction.
I’m a registered nurse who relocated to Nebraska for a nursing management position. What was supposed to be a positive career move turned into one of the most difficult experiences of my professional life.
During my employment, I was pregnant and experienced treatment that I believe was discriminatory. I was also subjected to disciplinary write-ups and accusations, including an allegation involving a patient’s death. As a nurse, having something that serious associated with my professional reputation was devastating.
There were ongoing issues with management and HR, and I felt I had very little support or protection. I was eventually terminated in September 2025.
I filed a complaint with the EEOC and received my Notice of Right to Sue on July 29, 2026. My deadline to file a federal lawsuit is October 27, and I’m quickly running out of time.
I’ve contacted numerous employment attorneys, law firms, and referral services. Several attorneys have declined because of how close the filing deadline is. Others simply haven’t responded.
I’m not asking anyone here to determine whether I have a case. I know there are two sides to every story, and I have documentation that I would like a qualified attorney to review.
I’m simply trying to find legal representation before my opportunity to pursue this is gone.
I’ve worked hard for my nursing career, and the events surrounding my termination have had a significant impact on my professional and personal life. I don’t want to walk away without at least having an attorney properly evaluate what happened.
If anyone knows an employment attorney who handles pregnancy discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, or federal EEOC cases in Nebraska, I would be incredibly grateful for a recommendation.
I’m also open to attorneys outside Nebraska who are authorized to practice in Nebraska federal court.
If you know someone who might be able to help, please share this post or point me in the right direction.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'm from Utah and have driven through Nebraska a few times - but I decided to take a road trip with my brother to actually explore the area. We particularly enjoyed Scottsbluff National Monument, the Sandhills, Toadstool Geologic Park, and Fort Robinson State Park. Thank you, Nebraska, for your hospitality! We had a wonderful time.

Nebraska What If Grand Island, Kearney And Hastings Were All Together As One Big Tri-City Metro?

Bear with me on this one. Let's say Grand Island is in the same spot it is in reality. That doesn't change. But here's what does change: Hastings is right next to it on its south end. And Kearney is right on the middle west end of both Grand Island and Hastings. So when you pass Husker Highway where US 34 parts with US 281, going north, you're in Grand Island. Going south, you're in Hastings. And Engleman Road is where Grand Island and Hastings end and Kearney begins. So once you pass that road, you're in Kearney.

And US 281 being a full freeway from I-80 up to the north end of Grand Island after the NE 2 exit. Then after that exit, instead of US 281 taking a 90-degree turn east, it takes a 25-degree turn north-northeast until it reaches White Cloud Road where it finally continues its normal real-life pathway up to St. Paul.

And since it's a full freeway through Hastings and Grand Island, it has an interstate designation: I-580. It starts at I-80 and ends at the NE 2 exit near the airport.

US 30 also being a freeway through Kearney and Grand Island. It starts at I-80 and goes into Kearney as a full freeway and has exits along certain streets. So the interchange with I-580/US 281 is a cloverleaf interchange. Then the freeway finally ends at Grant Street where the viaduct near Downtown Grand Island.

And the airport (Central Nebraska Regional Airport) having a somewhat larger terminal with 6 gates with flights to Lincoln, Scottsbluff, Norfolk, Sioux Falls, Topeka and Wichita.

So in its own way, it would be like the Tri-Cities in Washington (Pasco, Richland and Kennewick). If you've ever been up there before, you might or might not know what I'm talking about. Overall the population would be around 100,000. It would still be smaller than Lincoln and Omaha.

So how would Central Nebraska be if it was like this? With Grand Island, Kearney and Hastings all being right next to each other as one big Tri-City metropolitan area?

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services and the Department of Health and Human Services proposed sweeping operational changes in agency biennial budget requests submitted last month. Those changes include closing the Community Corrections Center in Omaha, halving the population of the women’s prison in York, and closing Whitehall, a secure psychiatric treatment facility for youths who sexually offend or are being treated for substance abuse.

Nebraska Saved by a Cornhusker! - A Michigan guy’s 1988 run-in with a Nebraska State Trooper, in his 1968 Jaguar E-Type.

Post image
51 Upvotes

A guy I met in Michigan, Tom, has owned a 1968 Jaguar E-Type for 47 years. In 1988 he was driving it back from LA, cruising across Nebraska on a sunny fall Saturday, and got pulled over for speeding.

The trooper asked what the hurry was. During the long drive, Tom had flipped past a couple of football games on the radio, so he said he was listening to the Cornhuskers and lost track of his speed. The trooper smiled and asked if he was a Huskers fan. Tom said, “Isn’t everybody?”

They spent the next ten minutes talking about the car, and he got sent off with “Just slow down a little bit, son.”

Thought you all would appreciate it. Anyone else have a good Nebraska roadside story?
