IMO itās an admission of failure on the part of 2k that they could not find a way to allow people to create players based on the best players while also balancing the game.
From 2ks perspective I understand why they did this because realistically speaking most players donāt need to make a new player every season to compete. A singular cap breaker along with re-earning badges isnāt enough of a draw to get folks excited at a new season of 2k.
The downside of this is that just like any ultimate team mode, now 2k has control over the meta of the game and each season can swing it with a new Goat to one-up the last. This can then swing the meta where players are forced to create Goat builds to compete especially non-playmaking-related positions (locks, backends, bigs).
The one major positive I see with Goat builds is it does invite new players into the game way easier then previous years because even April someone could buy the game, have zero cap breakers and use a Goat to potentially give them a chance to compete. I hit legend last year so when I made a new character late in the game players I would get matched with guys who had a fraction of the amount of cap breakers.
The Goat Magic already showcases that they are willing to add animations on builds that are taller than their height caps (Lukaās dribble moves are at 84 BH, so locked to 6ā8 and shorter). They also added animations that are locked behind future season releases such as Cooper Flaggās dribble style and euro as well as Giannisās dribbles and layups. So itās really only a matter of time before they genuinely pull a myteam move and add other height or attribute-capped animations to future GOATs.
At the end of the day itās a video game, itās meant for profit with fun/playability being secondary so if Goats make 2k more money they will double down on it in future seasons/games.
