Project Showcase Put a minute of my animated pilot together. Starting to see it now

• Upvotes

Been putting off making this for years. Its called Blackstar Lullaby, and seeing a few more shots together is helping me see how close it is to the thing in my head. Plenty left to figure out though.

I shared some bits recently and people wanted a longer look. These shots aren't in any particular order, just a collection of the work so far. The train is the newest bit.

Project Showcase << the light narrows unironically >>

In 2012, when I was in second grade, I prayed to the gods to prevent the end of the world and for the asteroid to fly right past us. Thirteen years later, I’m afraid of losing my freedom. But it seems the light at the end of the hallway isn’t ironically getting any narrower

Question Help with DUIK Angela: limbs won't move even though they are connected to the bones.

Hello,

I've tried DUIK Angela once and was able to successfully animate a character. Now I have to actually use it for a project - aaaand I'm having issues.

I have a character with an arm and forearm (on each side of course). I don't have hands yet because I don't need to move them so I left out - for now. When I create the arm and the forearm bone

through auto-rig DUIK creates two bones. One connects to the shoulder top part of the arm and the elbow and the other from the elbow to the "wrist" (even though I have to adjust it). Now here is the issue: when I move the elbow part only the forarm moves even though it's not connected to the upper arm. I'm also having trouble with the tip: the tip is set to the end of the limb but it doesn't move the limp at all. When I move the upper arm by the shoulder the whole arm moves!

What am I missing?

Thank you so much in advance!

Edit: I uploaded a screen recording in the comments

AI Generated Building a surreal, looping concept lyric video for Tame Impala's 'Let It Happen' using Google Flow AI & After Effects

Hi everyone! I'm Faruk (fka), a visual director and motion designer based in Istanbul. Wanted to share a section of a 4-minute animated concept video I directed for Tame Impala's "Let It Happen" and break down the hybrid workflow behind it.

I designed the visual narrative as a continuous psychological loop: starting from the red window blinds and a mental labyrinth, confronting a growing shadow and floating masks, climbing a piano-key spiral staircase toward Saturn, and looping seamlessly right back to the opening window.

Workflow & AI Transparency:

Rather than relying purely on raw AI generations or traditional frame-by-frame animation alone, I built a hybrid pipeline. I used Google Flow to generate the painterly, surreal video outputs and base motion sequences for each scene. Once I had those visual outputs, I brought everything into Adobe After Effects for the heavy compositing—stitching the scenes into seamless camera transitions, color matching, and integrating the organic kinetic typography into the world.

🎬 Watch the full 4-minute animation on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ea3PuuGl740

🌐 My portfolio & other visual direction works: https://www.filmkareas.com/

Always happy to chat about how I integrated the Google Flow outputs into the After Effects timeline or the typography layouts—let me know what you think!

Project Showcase Stylized AI assets + heavy After Effects compositing for a Dua Lipa 'Training Season' concept lyric video.

Hey everyone! Wanted to share a section of a passion project I just finished. Instead of relying purely on raw AI generations, I generated and stylized custom visual assets with AI, then brought everything into After Effects for the camera rigs, kinetic typography, and beat-synced compositing.

If you want to check out the full 3.5-minute edit, here is the full video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCPq22KuGrU

Happy to answer any questions about the AE setup or the stylization workflow!

Had to do a re-design of my previous post. It's not the most modern design, as am I (of an older design ;) ). Had fun making this one, got lost in details, could still add a lot more but it's time for a new personal project! Used Illustrator and After FX and produced the music myself.

Question M5 Pro or M5 Pro Max - which is more ideal for heavy After effects work?

Hey all

I'm a freelance motion designer/video editor looking to upgrade my current laptop, which is really starting to struggle with After effects.

My current setup is a Lenovo ThinkPad with: **intel i7-1360P **32GB RAM **NVIDIA RTX A500

After Effects makes up around 90% of my workload, mostly motion graphics, paid social content, compositing and video editing. My biggest frustrations are painfully slow RAM previews, laggy timelines, long render times and general slowdowns when multitasking.

I'm considering switching to a 14-inch MacBook Pro, mainly for portability, and I'm currently torn between:

**M5 Pro: 18-core CPU/20-core GPU, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD
**M5 Max: 18-core CPU/40 core GPU, 128GB RAM, 2TB SSD

I'm happy to invest in something powerful that'll last me another 4–5 years, but the prices are pretty eye-watering here in Canada, a fully specced M5 Max can easily approach C$9,000, which is difficult to justify unless there's a substantial real-world benefit as I hardly ever use 3D

From what I've researched after effects tends to benefit more from CPU performance and RAM than raw GPU power, so I'm wondering whether the M5 Pro with 64GB would already be more than enough?

I'd particularly appreciate hearing from anyone using an M5 Pro or M5 Max professionally, also realise either option would be a major upgrade from my ThinkPad, but I'm trying to avoid both overspending and buying something I'll regret in a couple of years as all

Cheers for any help

Project Showcase Almost done with my AE particle simulator

After more than 6 months of sacrificing free time, sleep (and credits), my particle simulation plugin is as good as done. Of course I had some help (Claude) with building and testing, but the vision of what it had to be, how it should look, move and feel, was something I had in mind long before I started using Claude.

What started as a personal project, a tool tailored to my own needs, quickly became something much bigger. When the particles reacted to my layers for the first time, I was already satisfied and planned on only doing some performance optimization. That quickly turned into adding one more feature, then another, and just one more, resulting in a versatile system that gives you complete control over the shape of the particle field and the movement of the particles.

Any layer (shape, text, animation, video) can be used as an emitter and/or a force region, influencing the path, speed and flow of the particle field.
The last tests and optimizations are being done right now, after which it will finally be released.
More info coming soon, but here's an example of one of its many possibilities.

Project Showcase Mixed Media Personal Project

This is a personal project I loved working on. Hope you like it!

-----

My thoughts for the concept started with "key" in English, "qui" is "who" in French and "كيف", pronounced keef, is "how" in Arabic. Noticing that all three words share the same sound and similar meanings, I started thinking: what if cultures were inspired by each other? Even though they have been far, sound waves have an echo. What if when the echo gets so low we think we have not heard it yet we have? Since the creation of languages, they might have been inspired by each other from a distance and they never knew they had!

What do these words have in common, you may ask... The "key" is usually the solution in order to open doors, "who" could be a savior to give us solutions and "how" is the way we solve our problems… What if they were combined to make sense!?

This is the idea for my personal project.

The case study is on my website. https://www.aimeeinmotion.com/case-studies/mixed-media

Tools used:

-3D modeling, texturing and animation in Blender

-Motion design and color grading in After Effects

-Real footage generated using AI

-Video editing, sound design and mixing in Premiere Pro

Turn on the sound for the music.

Constructive critique is more than welcome!

Question How can I find or recreate these types of sound effects as a non-sound designer?

I recently saw this video with sound design and music that really "tickled my brain". I know they had a dedicated sound designer who likely created these sounds from scratch using synths, but as a video editor/non-musician, I'd love to get close to this style. I'm trying to get more into the emotional and 'moving' side of sound design, rather than just relying on standard sound effects and music. I would like to know how to approach this.

Right now, I mostly rely on Pixabay (dont trash me) and ElevenLabs SFX (both custom prompts and community sounds). However, my sound design vocabulary isn't advanced enough to describe these specific sounds accurately to an AI prompt or to search for them effectively in libraries.

My questions:

  1. Terminology**:** What words, adjectives, or technical terms would you use to describe the sound effects?
  2. Libraries/Sources: Where can a non-sound designer find high-quality UI/tonal/synth sound packs like these? (should I invest in Artlist i.e.?)
  3. Prompting: If you were to prompt an AI tool (like ElevenLabs) to generate sounds like this, what phrasing or descriptors would you use?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Project Showcase I built a browser-based motion typography tool — here are all 101 text effects in 74 seconds

I built TypeMotion.Art, a browser-based tool for kinetic typography. This video runs through all 101 text animation presets across 13 categories, rendered with the tool itself.

You can change the text, typography, colors and timing, then export the result as a video. It’s a standalone browser tool, not an After Effects plugin.

I’d especially value feedback from motion designers: which effects would you actually use in a project, and which ones feel too similar or need more control?

If you want to try it: https://typemotion.art

Inspiration Why my animations looked "cheap" until I fixed one thing: easing NSFW

For a long time my animations felt stiff, even with good design. The problem wasn't the motion, it was the easing.

What changed everything:

● I stopped using the default Easy Ease (F9) as the final step. It's a starting point, not a finish.

● In the Graph Editor, I pull the handles so the animation starts slow and ends fast (or the opposite), depending on the feeling I want.

● For things entering the screen, I use a fast start and a long, soft landing. For things leaving, the reverse.

Same keyframes, same timing, completely different feel.

Another thing: I compare my curve against a reference animation (a UI animation I like) and match the speed graph.

Do you have a go-to curve shape you reuse, or do you start from scratch every time?
