Discussion A message from a Mauritanian to Moroccans about the current tension

• Upvotes

There's a land issue between our countries right now, and I've noticed it's turning into Moroccans vs Mauritanians online.

I'm not very political, but I think this is worth saying: whatever happens with that land, most of us won't benefit from it either way. Ordinary people on both sides will carry on with the same lives, the same jobs, the same problems.

What we can lose is a lot more. Hostility between people, harder travel, and strained ties between families and friends who have connections on both sides.

I know some will say Morocco doesn't need to care about Mauritania, and that's your right. But not caring is a good reason to stay out of it, not a reason to pile on.

Governments will negotiate and disagree, as they always do. We don't have to turn that into resentment between our people.

I hope we can handle this more maturely than that.

It's happening !!! This law determine investments (hospitals, TGVs, stadiums) and the tax system in 2027.

**EDIT**

IT'S OVER !!! It's published on the website of parliament :

🔴 French version

🔵 Arabic version

This is the really important document. Other documents are just interesting data about the Moroccan state.

For the next 30 days, Parliament will study the budget and demand some changes.

AskMorocco Moroccan Hand Gestures

• Upvotes

Foreigner here, living in Morocco. So today at lunch my colleague (casawi) flicked his thumb under his chin and said (i think?) Ana shab3at. That’s how i learned that that hand gesture means “full” or “a lot”.

Tell me some other Moroccan hand gestures and what they mean, whether innocent or rude!

AskMorocco What is Your Third place of choice ?

In sociology, a third place is a social space separate from the two usual social environments of home and workplace. Examples of third places include churches, cafes, bars, clubs, libraries, gyms, bookstores, hackerspaces, stoops, parks, and theaters. In his book The Great Good Place, Ray Oldenburg argues that third places are important for democracy, civic engagement, and a sense of place.

- Wikipidia

Personally it's the gym, but I don't use it as a social place.

AskMorocco Remote working?

Salam my fellow Moroccan brothers and sisters, I'm in a kind of serious debt for my age (20) and my situation, I thought what better way to ask if not other people, I live abroad in France and I would like to work remotely since I spend most of my time at my desk anyway.

I know that some people know websites or programs where they do missions or tryout for contracts for foreign companies, I’m honestly open to pretty much anything as long as it’s legit and pays.

It’s kinda urgent, so any help or advice would mean a lot.

AskMorocco My mother has been abusive our whole lives and now wants my brother to divorce his wife. what would you do?

I honestly don’t know how to deal with my mother anymore.

Growing up, she would constantly scream at us, insult us and sometimes hit us. She never apologized afterward. Everyone just acted like nothing happened.

Even now that we’re adults, she believes she can treat us however she wants because she’s our mother. She literally told me that she has the right to hit, spit on and insult me, and that I still have to obey her because she’s my mother.

She also hates our wives. She constantly claims we’re being controlled by them, that we work hard while they sit around doing nothing, and that we’re basically their servants.

Recently, my brother and his wife had their first baby by C-section. Instead of being happy for them, my mother started demanding that he divorce his wife and find someone else.

One of the things that apparently triggered her was his wife asking him to pick up a dressing that had fallen off after her surgery. My mother interpreted that as her treating him like a dog.

Another time, my brother simply asked our mother to take off her shoes when entering his home. She completely lost it, started screaming and insulted him, his wife and even me and my wife, although we weren’t there. He kept apologizing just to calm her down.

My sister has now joined in and calls his wife “trash” and claims she only married him for personal gain. The ironic part is that my sister lived with my brother and his wife for two months after having problems with our mother. His wife cooked for her and even did her laundry.

Neither of them seems interested in supporting my brother after the birth. They just keep criticizing his marriage, even though he’s happy with his wife.

And now, out of nowhere, my mother texted me asking for 20000 by tomorrow for expensive dental work, with absolutely no explanation. I’m pretty sure I’d never see that money again if I lent/gave it to her.

I’m exhausted by the constant negativity, screaming, entitlement and drama. She seems to have a problem with almost everyone, not just us.

Part of me wants to simply stop responding and cut contact. But she’s still my mother, and I wonder whether I’m being too harsh.

Has anyone dealt with a parent like this? Did setting boundaries actually work, or did you eventually go low/no contact? What would you do in my situation?

Discussion I can’t believe people still think Moroccan Darija is one of the closest dialects to Standard Arabic, even though most Arabs struggle to understand it. Darija has a remarkably diverse vocabulary, with words from Arabic, Tamazight, French, and Spanish.

I can’t believe people still think Moroccan Darija is one of the closest dialects to Standard Arabic, even though most Arabs struggle to understand it. Darija has a remarkably diverse vocabulary, with words from Arabic, Tamazight, French, and Spanish. Yet people still cling to this idea and defend it so strongly. Moroccan Darija could even be recognized as a language in its own right if the government, the state, and the people chose to recognize it as such.

Discussion I have a problem

My mother and father have long had a habit of arguing once a month. This year, however, things have escalated significantly they are now fighting twice a week. Since we live in an apartment building, I am terrified that my friends might hear them. Just today, while I was at the German language center, my brother told me they had been arguing very loudly and it’s true, they had. This situation now fills me with dread; I don’t even want to see my friends or anyone else. In the past, they would argue and then reconcile, or one of them would eventually back down, but now, things are taking a different, more concerning turn.btw im 19ans male (mearftsh ash ndir cuz hdshi bzzf)
