Good news everyone!

Hubris is delayed (in case you saw a picture of that in the past), but Fading replaces it, and Fading is now live on Kickstarter!

It's my final legacy Mörk Borg hardcover anthology, wrapping up all the old zines by combingin Galgenbeck: Sacrifice, Hallowed & Refuse.

If that sounds good, step right up, and get one of the books. Thank you~

Christian!

ORGTOBER Day 12: OFFICE PYRE

Post image
14 Upvotes

You enter a room you've never been in before. There's a fire! Glowing in the dark, flickering with an unworldly radiance, is a huge funereal pyre, burning with a feverish intensity.

What's on the pyre? (d6)

1 many documents that you desperately need

2 that colleague you reluctantly considered your "work friend"

3 your laptop

4 the last functional vending machine

5 the remnants of the last customer to say "I'd like to speak to a manager please"

6 d20 interns

My cool daughter and (the less cool) me are doing MORKTOBER together as a bonding/drawing/laughing exercise. It's all in the world of MORK ORG - comedy office horror. If that interests you, check it out at beyondcataclysm .co.uk/morkorg

Ever been exposed to Sense and Sensibility and wanted to see everyone involved suffer brutal, horrible deaths at the hand of a diseased mutant peasantry? Have you perhaps read Jane Eyre and thought that maybe it would be better with more of the insane attic spouse? Tired of playing competent characters who have the tools and skills needed to survive? Have we got the game for you!

This is our first go-round at all this crowdfunding stuff, but hopefully not the last. Launching tomorrow at noon!

Berserkr's death rules — how do they work for undead, wraiths, and other non-living characters?

I've been thinking about something in Berserkr that I find a little puzzling, and I'm curious how other people interpret it.

The game has rules for a character's heroic death and what happens to them afterward. That makes sense for a living warrior who dies gloriously in battle. But what about some of the other playable character types?

For example:

Wraiths — can a spirit die a second time? Why his fate isnt decided before? Is it destroyed, released, or sent somewhere else?

Fire constructs — does their death mean their flame goes out, their body is destroyed, or something else entirely?

Valkyries — given their connection to death and the fate of the slain, how does their own heroic death fit into the picture?

I realize that this could simply be a matter of interpreting death more broadly: not necessarily biological death, but the final destruction of a character or the end of their current existence. That's a perfectly reasonable approach, but I'm not sure whether the rules explicitly support it or whether we're expected to figure it out ourselves. For me, it doesnt really make sense.

I'm also wondering whether the heroic death mechanic assumes that every character has a soul, can be judged by the gods, and can potentially end up in the same afterlife - regardless of what they actually are.

Has anyone else noticed this, or discussed it with their group? Is there an official explanation, a passage in the rules I've overlooked, or a house rule you've come up with to handle these character types?

I'm not necessarily saying the mechanic is broken. I'm genuinely curious about how it fits the setting and whether different kinds of characters should have different outcomes when they're defeated for good.

I'd love to hear your interpretations 😅

“Inside the Zone of Silence, anomalies and radiation are the least of your worries, kid. It’s the demons you gotta watch out for. You’d be lucky if one found you and killed you quick. Demons are far worse than the stories say. But, if you really need one gone that bad… you’ll have to hire a Howler then. That is, if you can find one out in the Chandelier Forest.”

—Sergeant Woden, 40th Vodaris Reconnaissance Platoon

Here are my Devil Weapons rules from Howler, my Cy_Borg hack inspired by STALKER and The Witcher. I wanted to try a trick weapon system like the one in Bloodborne. I'm still testing it out at my local store.

Once you defeat a demon either by raw combat or abusing its weakness, you can capture the soul of the demon to help you in your fights. But the life with 2 demons in your back it's full of agony and suffering, the good thing is that your not alone because a Howler never hunt's alone.
