I got up Yesterday with NO intention of buying another Benz, then this happened...

I'm always flipping through fb marketplace looking at what types of Mercedes are for sale. There have been a lot of diesels showing up lately and one ad for a manual 240d caught my eye. In that ad, the seller off-handedly mentioned he might be selling his 1995 e320 s124. By lunchtime I had made an appointment to go see it. Went to look at it (and its piles of service records). Drove it. Bought it. The pic is from a BAT post where the current owner bought it in 2019. In all the years I've had an interest in old Mercedes, I've never seen a wagon (w123 or w124) in this excellent condition. Now I just have to sell my Audi A3.

New To Me 2012 GL450

Post image
14 Upvotes

I bought a Mercedes today! After about two months of research, a gem fell into my lap. A 2012 GL450. Silver with a black interior. It stood out as a unicorn to me because it had 58 service records, all at the dealership, with actual hard copy receipts stored meticulously. Oil changed every 5000 miles. New air suspension in the last 3 years. Everything recommended for the 150,000-mile service done this year while the truck has 114,000 miles on it. Passed the PPI with flying colors. $6300 cash. Carfax history-based value was $9995. Seller was an older gentleman that was having trouble getting in and out of it and was sad to see it go. My thought was that I would budget about what a car payment would be on a car like this and put it towards maintenance. Keep an eye on the service schedule and take care of things before they broke. She drives beautifully. Coming from driving a little Volvo convertible, this drives like a very luxurious school bus. But man, the power from that V8! If anybody owns one of these and has some advice on things to keep up with that might not be common knowledge, I'd really appreciate it hearing about it. Thanks in advance!

Yes, we checked the manual. Friend has a rental and we are trying to talk her into buying this GLE. I was hoping it was a heated cup button but it clearly isn't that.

GLE owners - what’s your motor and long term MPG?

Post image

What’s your GLE motor and overall MPG?

2025 GLE 580 with the big beautiful twin turbo, V8 pumping out 510 hp. I don’t baby it, every on-ramp gets 510 hp applied, lots of driving in the Sierra Nevada mountains, uphill freeway at 80+ mph, fast driving in NV, she pulls hard past 100 mph. Along with city driving and bumper-to-bumper traffic. Frankly, I’m amazed with an excellent 20.1 overall mpg. Frankly the Pinnacle Trim with the Airmatic suspension and massage seats - makes this the ultimate old man luxury grand tourer.

Squealing noises from Belt shredding?

2007 c350 4matic, squealing noises still happening during cold engine.

Performs well, no other issues. Goes away after warming up/15 mins.

Mechanic said it should go away in a few days/weeks (he said that a month ago)

He said it is in perfect condition.

He changed the serpentine belt and claimed to have greased some parts. Said it is just noise from previous belt shredding residue.

Sounds like birds chirping.

What do you guys think?

Should I be concerned?

2026 GLE450 AWD Lease Opinion

Hi, would love your opinion on this lease?

The car is $85,950 MSRP, does have some extra options including trim, color and sound system. However, lease feels very expensive.

Its 24month lease, 12k miles, $2000 down, which comes to monthly $1,072 after tax.

Dealer discount $6500, MF 0.00031, residual ~64.

Let me know any thoughts, really appreciate it.

Android auto full screen possible NTG7 ?

Hello everyone,

I have a question for those of you who have subscribed to the smartphone integration option on your 2024 or newer Mercedes A-Class and who use Android:

Is it still the case that only 2/3 of the screen is used with Android Auto?

If I’m not mistaken, I should have the MBUX NTG7.

I'm reading some old posts—maybe there have been updates since then that allow full-screen mode?

I saw a “tip” about using a USB-C dongle that simulates an iPhone for Mercedes to get Android Auto in full-screen mode, but it seemed pretty buggy.

They’re currently offering a discount (290€ instead of 363€) which is why I’m asking. If it works in full-screen mode, I might just go for it

Thanks

Is a 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 (M276 Biturbo) still a good buy in 2026? Reliability, maintenance, and ownership advice?

Hey everyone!

I’m seriously considering purchasing a 2021 AMG GLC 43 with approximately 30k miles and wanted to get some feedback from current and previous owners, especially those who have owned one long-term or have higher mileage.

I’m specifically looking for the M276 3.0L V6 Biturbo platform. I’ve looked into the newer GLC 43 and other Mercedes models, but I just can’t bring myself to go with the newer powertrains, particularly because of the 48V mild-hybrid system and some of the issues I’ve read about with the M256.

From what I’ve researched, the M276 seems to be a relatively solid and proven engine, but I’d love to hear some real world experiences before pulling the trigger.

Here’s what I’ve gathered so far regarding maintenance and common issues:

● Brakes: Apparently, these cars go through pads and rotors fairly quickly. I work from home full time and anticipate driving 5k miles or less annually, so I’m not too concerned about this.

● Tires: Similar story with tire wear, especially with the staggered setup. Again, given my low annual mileage, not a huge concern.

● Oil changes: I’ve read that changing the oil every 5k miles is recommended rather than following Mercedes’ longer service intervals.

● Camshaft position sensors: I’ve seen recommendations to inspect these during oil changes due to potential oil leaks and oil migration into the wiring harness.

● Valve covers/cam-related leaks: Something else I’ve read should be monitored. How common are these issues on the later M276 engines?

● Spark plugs: From what I’ve gathered, these should be replaced around 50k miles. Is that accurate?

I’m fairly comfortable with DIY maintenance, especially oil changes, brakes, and other basic maintenance items.

One thing I’m curious about is how you guys check the oil level when doing your own oil changes. I’ve read some discussions suggesting you shouldn’t necessarily fill the engine to its full published oil capacity. Is there any truth to this? What’s the proper procedure for verifying the oil level on the M276?

A few other questions for owners:

  1. Reliability: Would you still recommend buying a 2021 GLC 43 in 2026? How has yours held up, particularly beyond 50k–75k miles? Any expensive or unexpected repairs?

  2. Pre-purchase inspection: Are there any specific things I should inspect or test when I see the vehicle in person? Any M276-specific issues, transmission concerns, suspension components, or electronic problems I should be looking for?

  3. Maintenance: Aside from what I’ve listed, are there other common maintenance items or potential failures I should budget for?

  4. Long-distance drive: If I purchase the vehicle, I’m planning to drive it approximately 500 miles back home. Assuming it has a clean service history, passes an inspection, and drives well, would you have any concerns making that trip in a 30k-mile GLC 43? Or would you recommend shipping it instead?

I’m not expecting Toyota-level reliability, and I understand that AMG ownership comes with higher maintenance costs. I’m fine with that as long as the platform itself is reasonably dependable and doesn’t have major underlying design flaws.

I also plan to keep the vehicle for several years, so long-term reliability matters more to me than just the initial purchase price.

Would really appreciate any feedback, especially from owners who do their own maintenance or have put significant mileage on the M276.

Thanks in advance!

2021 sprinter 4x4 steering rack and pinion question

Hello,

So in the summer of 2025, my power steering was weak and I checked the fluid and it was low, so I topped it off and everything was fine. Fast forward to a month ago, I was driving the van and the power steering is going from helping to not helping as I turn the wheel. It’s really intermittent. Fluid levels are fine. Took it to the dealership to see what’s up and they quoted me $8262 plus $400 for diagnosis and $400 for an alignment. Plus tax…. They say I need a new power steering rack and power steering pump. I’ve gotten away from turning wrenches in my life, but at that price I’m looking into doing it myself. I’ve found remanufactured rack and pinions for $1,500. The one thing I run into is that I’m reading these electric power steering racks require programming.

Anyone have any ideas of what I should try first? I don’t see any fluid coming from the rack or the pump or lines.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Is this something I can program on my own, even if I have to purchase hardware and software ?

Thanks much!

-Mike

Shopping for an R172 SLK 350 to replace a PRHT NC Miata... Mistake?

Hey folks,

I'm selling my NC Miata PRHT and looking for its replacement. It's not my only car so it'll be garaged for Northeast winters for the most part, but here's my concern:

I spend a LOT of time in the car. Some days during my work day involve 4 hours of driving, mostly highway. I purchased the Miata as a way to make it more fun than my boring compact pickup and more practical than my motorcycle, and I did get a lot of use out of it... but it's fairly loud and uncomfortable.

Obviously this group is going to be biased in a certain way, but I'm wondering if anyone has had their hands on both and can speak to ride quality and cabin noise. I'm imagining the SLK should be much better, but there's none nearby me to test drive... If I'm going this way it's a big time investment or a gamble on carvana.

Need help with 90’s Mercedes S class

Hello, my grandpa owned a Mercedes S-class back in 1990s. He passed away in 1996 and my dad held onto the car. My dad was too sad to drive it and didn’t want to sell it because he didn’t want to lose that part of his dad. The cars been siting in our garage untouched for years.

I’ve recently started earning money and want to get the car restored as a gift for my dad. I can’t find anywhere that actually works on them and I am not a car expert.

Does anyone know any shops in Sacramento / Stockton / Bay Area / Fresno that works on them.

I appreciate it thanks

It’s a 420 SEL
