I may never get my old body back because i trusted professionals

Post image
• Upvotes

Three months ago, I (21F) was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that completely changed my life overnight.

I suffered multiple injuries, including a ruptured spleen that required emergency surgery, several fractures, and a severe injury to my gluteal muscles.

For months, I knew something was wrong with my hip and buttock. There was swelling, fluid, and a visible deformity like a part of my hip is MISSING. I kept going to doctors, getting examined, waiting, and hoping someone would finally give me a clear answer. I was repeatedly left waiting while time passed.

Now, three months later, I’ve been told that I have a muscle tear of my gluteus maximus muscle, which has healed in a displaced position. It has left a visible indentation and asymmetry, and it is contributing to my difficulty walking/imbalance. Surgery might be an option, but I’ve been warned that because so much time has passed, the chances of a successful repair may be lower.

I cannot describe how devastating it is to be 20 years old and have to wonder whether my body will ever feel like my own again. I’m scared of living with a permanent imbalance, struggling to walk normally, and having to accept a physical change that might have been addressed differently if it had been recognized earlier.

I know doctors are human, and I know medicine isn’t perfect. But it’s incredibly frustrating to keep thinking about all the appointments, all the waiting, and all the times I trusted that things would work themselves out, only to find myself here. I can’t help wondering what might have happened if someone had taken my concerns more seriously sooner.
I don’t want pity. I want my life back. I want to be able to walk without worrying, look at myself without feeling devastated, and stop having to make decisions about my future around injuries I never asked for.

And on top of all this, I’m struggling with the financial side of recovery. Some of my friends actually set up a GoFundMe for me because they wanted to help cover the costs of what comes next. I’m incredibly grateful to them, but honestly, I feel embarrassed and uncomfortable about it. I never imagined being in a position where I would need something like that, and I hate the feeling of having to accept help when all I want is to stand on my own two feet again.

I’m mentioning it here because it’s part of what I’m going through, not because I want to pressure anyone. If anyone genuinely wants to help or would like the link, they can message me privately. Even just having somewhere to vent about all of this has been helpful.

I just needed to get this off my chest. I’m exhausted, I’m scared, and I’m angry that while everyone else gets to move on with their lives, I’m still trying to figure out whether I’ll ever get mine back.

Why do Medical Administrators always gaslight patients who file complaints??

A month ago, I filed a complaint against an RN at a sleep clinic I had a phone call visit with because my laptop nor my cellphone could handle the clinic's software so the audio was out and the video visit was switched to a phone call.

Because I had a prior sleep study and consult a few years ago, the process is to have an RN do a follow up before scheduling another sleep consult (makes no sense to me, but that's their process).

The RN was totally unprofessional on the phone. She was supposed to have my previous sleep studies pulled up on her computer to reference but acted like I had no medical history of sleep studies (the most recent one was 3 years ago). She kept asking me redundant questions and laughing a lot for some weird reason which annoyed me. So, I ended the call and then called member services and filed a complaint.

So, a month later some Admin calls me back and immediately starts gaslighting me on the phone - tells me I'm interrupting her, when actually its vice versa -- anytime I'd start speaking, she'd start speaking over me, and when I would start speaking she'd accuse me of interrupting her.

Suffice it to say, I'd rather shuffle off this mortal coil in my sleep due to my apnea then have to deal with the nightmare the US Healthcare system has become.

How do these people get these jobs, if they have zero interpersonal skills?!? Why do they protect incompetent medical professionals instead of the patients???

Looking for advice, maybe a bit of solace

I am a physician assistant who has suffered a medical trauma at my place of work. I am a hospitalist and worked at this hospital for about 4 years.

I had my baby via c section there, who was born a month early. (my OBGYN, who I’ve been seeing since I was 19 only delivers there). My baby was intubated at birth and was in the NICU. Less than 48 hours later, I suffered from a sigmoid volvulus.

I immediately knew my diagnosis, and explained that I was concerned I was having a bowl obstruction. I experienced a sense of pain and fear I have never felt before. I felt like my pleas were falling onto deaf ears. I begged for help and asked for other providers/nurses who were more equipped. They refused to do so. I had to keep my sanity during this time to ensure they were giving me the proper treatment. I was shouting out my own orders. I was so afraid I was going to die. I screamed in pain for hours. My husband told me you could hear me down the hall. He was advocating for me as well. After about 9 hours or so, the surgeon finally saw me, who had misdiagnosed me. He was dead set that I had a benign diagnosis, which prevented him from coming to the hospital even sooner. I finally underwent an emergency laparotomy and had a large portion of my colon removed. This has affected me and my family in such a detrimental way. I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD due to this horrible night and the horrible treatment I received at the hands of my own place of employment. I wasn’t able to hold my baby for a month, I couldn’t nurse him like I wanted to. I needed more time off of work to heal physically and mentally, and have struggled financially because of this. My disability got denied because I wasn’t in psychosis, homicidal, or suicidal. I have no energy to appeal this. I had to sell my jewelry in order to stay afloat. I spoke to a lawyer who said they couldn’t take my case because the outcome wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been.

Being a PA and a patient collided for me that night. I am having a hard time separating the two now. I just returned to work this month and I am struggling. As a PA, I already deal with some physicians not taking me seriously, and they didn’t take me seriously that night despite me being correct. I feel so insecure now. I don’t want to quit the job I’ve been doing and liked for so long. I’m so sick of this taking more and more from me. I felt really let down by my supposed colleagues that night, who have left me scarred both physically and emotionally.

I mourn who I used to be. I just don’t know what to do now.

OCD and sterility in the operating room

I’m feeling helpless. I was opening a suture pack and I genuinely don’t know what is real if it hit my finger or not while setting all the equipment on the table. I genuinely don’t know if it was the wind or the suture hitting me felt something weird but I don’t really know… in hindsight I would’ve replaced it…but you know in healthcare you are exhausted too. I’m scared I may have killed someone because of it. The patient was a lady, 69, smokes, getting a total hip replacement but at least she doesn’t have a lot of subcutaneous fat. I’m so scared I’m gonna kill her. I don’t know what is real or to report it because maybe I didn’t even hit my hand with it. I feel like I don’t deserve anything in life if I don’t report this, or at least admit I touched it to be on the safe side. My OCD brain is saying it did hit my skin and in the moment I thought it was wind. I’m already hyper aware of messing up so there is a chance I’m making up the feel of it touching too. Any advice? The surgical tech touched literally everything including that suture thing so I’m like “great the germs spread everywhere onto the patient and they will probably die of a PJI”

Can you have medical ptsd from being a baby born extremely premature and in the NICU for months.

I feel like I have some somatic symptoms potentially from the time when we were a baby now obviously I do not remember any of this is, what I’ve been told and believe to be true to the best of my knowledge but when I was born. I was born extremely underweight, and premature and was born addicted to opioids. As a baby I was apparently in the NICU for months and wasn’t allowed any physical contact with my parents due to my weakened immune system. And I also had very fragile skin. My parents were legitimately sexually abusive and physically abusive but I felt that the no contact with them as a baby might’ve disrupted ? Or maybe primed my attachment system in some way. But also when I was a kid from ages 6-12 I was getting multiple painful medical tests done what felt like every week. I was not allowed to play with other kids until I was 5 due to my weakened immune system still. That I had. And so I feel that made me more isolated than I would’ve naturally been since I already have ASD-level2. And I didn’t get the necessary child to child play contact in my early development. I also was born disabled mentally with mental illness and autism and ADHD so this only Compounded the stress of the medical appts and tests I had to endure.. my parents when I was in the hospital as well never came to see me even when I had heart surgery at age 5 no one came. It saddens me as an adult. And also I ended up physically disabled later on in life due to severe physical abuse by someone who groomed me from 16-18. So idk if this makes any sense but I’m wondering where I stand in this as a whole like is this even traumatic?

Forced Ambulance and Medical Care

Looking for people who might have had a similar experience and how things settled in the aftermath.

Last month while visiting Denver, my husband and I were at a music venue. The show that we attended was multiple bands that played over 5 hours. During this event, my husband was overserved and very intoxicated. I on the other hand did not have any alcohol whatsoever. Once the show was over, I tried very hard to get my husband outside, without incident, into our ride share and back to our hotel. Halfway to the exit we were ascended upon by several security personel. My husband was grabbed by on either side of him by two of the security guys. He was somewhat stumbling when they came upon us but I thought this whole production was a little overkill. They would not allow us to leave and escorted us to a side room near the exit. At this point my husband became a little belligerent when the security personnel put their hands on him shoved him into a chair. Then more personnel entered the room and there was us two and somewhere between 8-10 of them at any given time in what seemed like a 10x10 room half filled with stuff. They kept us there for approximately 45 minutes asking us both questions regarding his intoxication(i.e. how much did he drink? etc.)and asked me if he normally acts this when he was drunk. I told them that he was upset about how they were manhandling him and that they were keeping us there against our will. The more my husband acted up the calmer I tried to act as a responsible adult so they would let us leave. He was sitting in a chair the whole time while they hand me standing off in a corner. If they tried to touch him he would wildly try to shake them off, but that was the extent of his behavior. From the questions they were asking us I felt the venue was concerned about liability from overserving and was afraid he would hurt himself after leaving. I was constantly reassuring them that I would not let that happen, we just needed to get to our ride and our hotel and everything would be fine. At one point the security guy who seemed to be in charge told me he was not comfortable letting me leave with him, he did not feel I was safe with him and how he was acting. His whole attitude towards me was extremely misogynistic.

Eventually after approximately 45 minutes or so, I believed that I had convinced them to allow us to leave on the condition that my husband had to be able to walk out on his own. I grabbed his hand and headed out the exit only to find more security personnel and an ambulance outside waiting. Most of the security personnel were men twice the size of my husband, and four of them grabbed him and threw him onto a gurney. There was a female hanging out on the outskirts of this commotion with a syringe in her hand that she was hiding behind her back. At this point I am extremely concerned for my husband's safety and I start asking questions that not one person would answer. I also witnessed an argument with the ambulance personnel and the alleged head security guy. I got the impression that this was not their first pickup at this location and they were very unhappy about this. I did not get an answer to the questions I had about the syringe or what was in it and what were going to do with us. Once my husband was put into the ambulance against mine and his approval, the venue personnel pretty much abandoned me there, and not in a good part of town. The ambulance personnel could do nothing for me except take my phone number and have someone from the hospital call me when they know where they are taking him. I was not allowed to ride with him. So there I was at almost 2 am in a not so good part of an unknown town, by myself, waiting for my rideshare to take me to my hotel because a man said he did not think I was safe to leave with my husband. It was completely oxymoronic. I also want to add at this point that law enforcement was not involved in any way at any moment during this experience.

After I got back to our hotel, because I had nowhere else to go, it was about an hour when I received a call from a nurse informing me where my husband was located, and told me I should come and get him in the morning. An hour later a second nurse called and told me to come get him ASAP. I was then informed that he woke up and did not want to be there and they could not hold him against his permission. But I would have to come get him because he was still disorientated from the injection he received in the ambulance. So here I am at 4 am getting a ride share in an unfamiliar city to a unfamiliair place to find my husband. I get there and eventually find an entrance where there is a lobby with a single chair and he is sitting there asleep. I could not find another single person in the vicinity of this small lobby where I found him. I gently woke him up, grabbed his hand and led him out of there, got another ride share and brought him back to the hotel. Once in our room, I found that they had a band aid where they probably injected him, and sticky patches left over from where they were probably from heart monitors. The whole experience is completely shocking and incomprehensible to me and I can not make any sense out of it or any reason why we should have to pay the hospital and ambulance bills that we are now starting to receive. I completely understand the concern of a person being overserved in your establishment and the liability that can be bring upon said establishment. But we were not driving, not walking across town or anything like that and I was very clear in about that and my sobriety.

I understand that my husband was inebriated and difficult to manage. He likes to drink and he was having a good time and maybe he drank too much or maybe the altitude got to him from traveling from a lower elevation, but he was relatively okay up until he was grabbed and made to go inside the room they kept us in. Once that happened he was angry, I was angry, we were almost out the door. Once they finally let us leave and we were outside the situation became much worse when I realized they did not have any intention in letting us leave. The lady holding the syringe behind her back would not tell me what was in the syringe, and that confused me more because I remember one of the females asking me if it was possible he had been slipped something in his drink. If he was possibly drugged, why are you trying to drug him more? I do not understand why and how they can take him in the ambulance against mine and his permission. I could understand if I was just his girlfriend and not legally married that I personally would not have any rights or responsibility to him. If the venue was so concerned for our safety they could of escorted us to our ride share and washed their hands of us.

I have found stories on this platform that are similar in the experience that people were drunk and forced into an ambulance and then a hospital. Almost all of them, the person involved was alone and have intermittant memories or no memory of how they got there. There are a few more stories where the people involved were not alone but the person standing up for them was a boyfriend or girlfriend and were possibly inebriated also. I do not believe our experience is unique to us or to this venue. I am wondering if there are any more out there who might have a story to tell or have constructive advice to contribute on the financial aftermath they we now find ourselves.

Thank You for reading about our Mile High Hospitality Experience.

I think this qualifies as trauma, but I can't talk to anyone else about it

(I can't talk to anyone about it because it probably seems trivial.)

I had a gum grafting surgery recently. I was told it was a pretty routine procedure that did not require sedation. The procedure was nightmarish. I was gagging on my own blood despite the suctioning, and one of the numbing shots gave me the WORST electric shock of pain up through my sinuses and I immediately started crying, which is so humiliating for me.

I silently cried the rest of the way through the procedure until they finally got their hands out of my mouth for a moment and then a huge embarrassing SOB escaped my mouth. My legs were shaking and I very nearly passed out. Ended up staring at one spot on the ceiling and pinching my hand hard enough to leave a nasty bruise and got through it. I think they asked me questions during the procedure but I was totally checked out and could not hear anything.

Anyway, it was bad and just wanted to vent somewhere.

Regretting engaging w behavioral health system

I am autistic and ADHD and I was hospitalized about a month ago following a meltdown. It was a really traumatizing experience but luckily it wasn’t a long stay. I should have just let it go but I contacted a behavioral health clinic to see if I could get some more robust mental health support. During the intake, the social worker diagnosed me with bipolar because I spoke quickly, had insomnia (didn’t ask if I wasn’t tired), impulsivity, and said I was paranoid I’m guessing because I was afraid of the behavioral health system after my hospitalization but I’m not actually sure because she didn’t tell or or document what the supposed delusion was. That sent me into over a week of almost nonstop meltdowns. I’ve already been screened for bipolar multiple times and inpatient didn’t catch it either. At the follow up with the psychiatrist, she pretty much threw out the bipolar diagnosis and said she thought something like RSD would likely fit my situation better and she would pass me off to another psychiatrist for longer term treatment if I wanted medication and a therapist. I felt a lot better until I looked at the clinical notes and saw that bipolar is still on my list of problems. I know this could be an admin thing. I also know the longer term psychiatrist might still want to rule it out. But she also documented ‘AVH’ and didn’t document what they were, and also paranoia and didn’t document what it was. I’m guessing the ‘AVH’ is when I talked about ‘I sometimes have this voice in my head that tells me I’m not good enough’ which???? She didn’t even ask if it was a separate voice??? It is literally my internal monologue????? And paranoia might be when I said I sometimes get anxious that people are talking about me behind my back or that I’m nervous about not being able to communicate well/being misunderstood??? So now I’m in full blown panic mode because what do you MEAN it happened again???? I am SO FUCKING DONE with the behavioral health system. It is so fucking unsafe for me as an autistic person. Everything happens so fast, no one explains anything, and then you end up with PSYCHOSIS on your chart because you have an INNER FUCKING MONOLOGUE. I have things I genuinely want help with. Ironically all this has made those things exponentially worse. Before the hospitalization, I didn’t so much deal with anxiety. The last two weeks I’ve had crippling anxiety and panic every single day. I am worse off having asked for help when I needed it and I hate that

MyChart

MyChart was designed only to be a patient portal. And yet medical professionals in health and mental health use it as your permanent medical record. Now that is surprising cause MyChart violates HIPPA. For instance nurses or clinic employees use the providers message board as if they were the provider. A message was sent under my mental health doctors message board where I was threatened to have two of my medications stopped if I did not on that day do a urine screen. It wasn't the drug screen that honestly broke my heart. It was that my long time provider talked to me that way. And I have a pretty horrible trauma response still. So I became defensive. And there was no reason for me to even complete one because I had just done it. So I agreed and had it sent to a different institution rather than Unity Point. But I did wait until my appointment with my provider to discuss it

I understand my provider is very busy so a nurse reading through her messages is practical. But answering through the portal without even identifying herself wasn't just harmful but I believe it is illegal . So I noticed that when provider notes get put in it isn't by the doctor. And my provider told me that the test was uneccessry. She continued my medications the same. But she is in New York and it's telepsych. So if I need to reach her the only available form is a message through MyChart read by her nurse. This gets really unethical.

So this mental health provider is Black Hawk Grundy and they are a non profit mental health provider under Unity Point. Now anyone in the clinics has access to put whatever they want on my chart and the provider notes become inaccurate sometimes

So much so they cost quality treatment. And it did. The Supervisor Tom at Blackhawk Grundy wanted me to sign a behavioral agreement because I admit MyChart frustrated me and I did lash out in the messages. No one reads those unless they see a problem. Well I saw problems in the behavioral agreement and few of them he required me to sign gave up my rights as patient protected by the law and the Care Standards that must be followed. So I did not sign and send it back. I went there had arrange a medical ride and actually surprised him.i went in to sign an agreement we both felt comfortable with and apologize for my behavior. Tom took this chance meeting to bring up the last three things I wrote on MyChart. One was accusing him of defamation of character. After he told the social worker at the Unity Point inpatient mental health unit that I had a history of threatening people. Boy that was not the truth at all. And there I am and there he was the supervisor and a licensed counselor who cut me down like a tree. It was awful....but then he also discharged me from care there and said that him and my provider were taking me off two meds.

He said he had been doing this for 28 years and i thought how many people suffered while he the broke the law. If I hadn't come to sign his agreement I would still have my provider and medications. So there is no way my provider was involved at all. And he has no medical license but he does supervisor a nurse who discontinued one and tappered another. Then my appointment scheduled with my provider was cancelled. There was continuity of care. But there was MyChart where he created a letter of why they terminated me. And honestly proved my point that how I was feeling and acting was a direct reflection of my outpatient care. Some kind of narrative was spun and untrue. And I had no choice but to have a newly graduated nurse practitioner that I later figured out didn't understand English very well. And two new nurses who used her message board to answer some questions but never as I reached out through MyChart and the phone about the issues I was having taking these new meds that made me so sick was given to the provider. Or maybe they were and the provider is just that awful. Night school and 33 credit hours the law and the FDA allow her to diagnose and write prescriptions. Of course this same government and FDA who agreed with the Sackler family and allowed the Oxy Contin label to say Not Addictive. Bullshit the FDA used to protect us, it too many years of research And development before a new prescription drug became available. You never saw commercials and pharmacy reps ruined things just as lobbyist have. When you decrease the amount of training, education, and experience how will quality health care exist or any profession?

Within the first two weeks food started tasting funny. And then she kept increasing the meds that made sick enough not to even be able to eat a meal for 2 months.

I tried twice to go through the Unity Point ER for inpatient help. Besides a supervising nurse in that ER and the misinformation in MyChart I really had no chance at help And I was so sick and suffered. The first time I was tricked into signing an AMA when I thought it was for insurance. Left standing there sick at 11:30pm with no ride home. The second time I was accused of threatening suicide to get inpatient care just increase my anxiety med then labeled in MyChart as dependency. The telepsych ARNP new nothing about what is available in inpatient and I just stopped defending myself

A few days later I walked out on my outpatient care as she was again trying to increase the meds making me sick. Then found myself back at the ER psych at Unity Point and thank God I got a provider who new me and looked at my med list and couldn't believe it. And I went in patient. MyChart is dangerous and inaccurate and should be highly regulated by the law and HIPPA. And whatever nurse in that ER who is tampering with my UA and most likely was the cause of being denied inpatient twice making me suffer longer should be held accountable. By the time I got into inpatient it was to late. Nothing really helped I had lost every bit of trust, everything was a threat and everything triggered my trauma response.

I went in to get my meds right and 30 days supply and find new outpatient. I finally left still haven't ate more than once a day. And have no outpatient care. And the managing supervisor of the mental health unit should step down due to ineffective and low quality care standards they follow. And Tom at Black Hawk Grundy should be terminated by breaking the law he had no license to change my meds and he did then I didn't get continuity of care. I have been in my Mental treatment for 20 years and now there is nothing

NOT DIAGNOSED went to the ER for some pretty severe symptoms got told it was possibly just stress or anxiety and I think they might be right this time

I also apologize in advance if this comes off insensitive to anyone who has medical trauma that almost killed them, I know my story can come off silly compared to other others

Before this starts just know that I am going to Therapy and I will be bringing this up to not only my Psychiatrist but my therapist. (Kind of an update or part three to my last post.)

Also I did post the symptom part of this on [r/askdocs](r/askdocs) but haven’t received much of anything back

So to be very clear in my last post that I am calling this an update to I spoke specifically about the Gynecologist in this post, I wanna make it clear that. Yes the Gynecologist is a huge part in this. however, the hypothetical PTSD I am speaking of affects all doctors.

I also am going to keep the story kind of vague. Y’all are not a Medical sub Reddit and I don’t want anyone to think I’m looking for medical advice here maybe your own personal experience or your opinion. Or maybe just a place to rant.

TL;DR: I’ve struggled with severe anxiety and panic attacks surrounding doctors, especially gynecologists, for years. Two weeks ago, I had an upsetting urgent care experience involving an injection I felt uncomfortable consenting to, and I left feeling like I hadn’t been given proper informed consent. Since then, my anxiety surrounding medical care has become significantly worse, alongside physical symptoms that have affected my ability to work. I went to urgent care and the ER, where extensive testing came back normal, but I still don’t know what’s causing my symptoms. I recently started wondering whether PTSD could explain some of my longstanding fear of doctors and the worsening symptoms following this experience. I’m bringing this up with my psychiatrist and therapist, but I’d like to hear from people with PTSD about whether any of this sounds familiar to their experiences.

So a bit of background, this is also relevant to my last post if you read it. I have had panic attack attacks and extreme fear of the Gynecologist essentially since I started going. In my post I talk about how I can have panic attacks about the Gynecologist up to once a week. It’s affecting my life my work, my relationships. I can have intrusive thoughts not just about Gynecologist appointments. It can keep me up at night and I have had dreams or nightmares where the doctor is the “antagonist”.

So two weeks ago, I had an allergic reaction to some bug bites first time in my entire life. I had an allergic reaction like that. I went to an urgent care. They offered me a steroid injection. I initially agreed until I became very uncomfortable with the placement of the injection. They were attempting to place it dead center of my glute.

Of course, this was uncomfortable for a multitude of make reasons they wanted me to pull my pants halfway down and also while in the office I was texting back-and-forth with my family and they all had said how they receive their steroid injections more in the hip or lower back and I should speak to the doctor if they intended to give it in the “hip” area or dead center of the glute.

I pointed to my body showing the doctor the two places asking for clarification she’s very clearly appointed to middle of the glute and said the meaty part

I’ve been got to the point where I told her you know what I refuse care. I’d like to leave. I don’t need the steroid injection. I wanna go home.

Suddenly, after I rejected care, steroid pills became an option. There’s a bit more specifics to go into the story, but what matters is by the end of the appointment I felt like I was not given true informed consent. I feel like the doctor lied by omission because specifically I got to the point of crying and asked her if I could go anywhere else and she said no.

I’ve spoken to multiple medical professionals since and they all stated that the place that they intended to inject was unsafe, and I was at risk for damage to my sciatic nerve, which is part of what I looked up during my appointment and why I refuse the injection.

So you’re thinking, why the hell does this matter? How the hell do you have PTSD from this?

So this happened on September 30 and since September 30 I’ve been experiencing

Extreme exhaustion
I can’t move the same amount of weight that I would typically be able to move

I’m becoming winded very easily with typical work

I’m having more frequent and more severe dizziness spells.

And some urinary issues I’m going to the bathroom back to back and some urgency

So I had a theory that either the allergic reaction was still affecting my body or it was unrelated, and I was having atypical UTIs there’s some more reasons why I thought it was this.

So yesterday I went to an urgent care and basically told them the whole story that I had a theory that it was a UTI and I wanted to be tested for a UTI and if it was a UTI that the plan was to schedule an appointment with a urologist because this is probably my fourth or fifth one this year and the symptoms are sometimes very unusual compared to a normal UTI

, you do not have to read this paragraph to understand the rest of the story my last UTI I had flu like symptoms I was nauseous. I was vomiting. I was dizzy, severe stomach pain pains. It was so bad that had to pull over and I passed out in my truck driving to work. When I went to urgent care that time. (I love this urgent care doctor different Office than the one that handled my allergic reaction.) she essentially said that she couldn’t really figure out what was wrong with me, but she also didn’t want to dismiss me. She wanted to do a pregnancy test just in case and I honestly didn’t mind so I let her do it. She must’ve ran a culture on the urine. I gave her because she came back and said that I had a severe UTI, but I didn’t have urgency or burning.

Back to the story

So urgent care runs the test yesterday doctor comes back. I explained the whole situation to him. ( not the female doctor that I love at this clinic.) and he says that my urine came back fine but with the symptoms that I’m telling him he has concerns for my kidney function and he would like me to go to the ER.

I agreed I thought my symptoms were pretty severe and I was glad I was being taken seriously.

I go to the ER. I’m panicked but that’s pretty consistent with how I am in any doctors office.

They start IV fluids on me test my urine test my kidney functions test my blood for anemia, red blood cells and hemoglobin EKG chest x-ray. Pregnancy and a urine STD test because I mentioned some urgency.

It’s a pretty comprehensive list of tests that they did

But absolutely everything comes back normal.

Right before I leave my fingertips start to go numb numbness on my body isn’t completely unusual for me. I have pots I deal with it often, but truthfully, I’ve never gone to a doctor and said hey I’m experiencing random numbness on random parts of my body.

I mention it to the nurse it doesn’t get investigated really which is fine. I guess I understand they already ran so many test.

I speak to the nurse at discharge and have a little bit of a breakdown. I essentially ask her if everything you checked is fine and what’s your next theory on what’s wrong with me because this exhaustion is affecting my work it’s affecting my relationships. I work in landscaping and work with some tools that can be dangerous. I can’t be having these symptoms while at work.

She was kind, but unfortunately gave me the very generic answer of go to your Gynecologist and get your hormones checked

So essentially, they believe it is stress or anxiety related

On my way home, the numbness progresses. It’s no longer just my fingertips, but it’s fully some of my fingers now like my pinky finger and this is on both hands.

I talked to ChatGPT about it. I know that in no way is ChatGPT a medical professional, but I really didn’t know what else to do at this point. Essentially it said that numbness like that was an emergency situation.

And I was like well I was just at the emergency room and they didn’t help me so I didn’t go back and every time I’ve experienced numbness before I didn’t die

So I bet you’re still wondering how the hell does this all correlate to PTSD? Last night I was looking at what mental health issues are considered disabilities and could receive specific medication and one of the ones that came up was PTSD. Granted confirmation Bias you know.

But when I read PTSD it all just kind of clicked together. I’ve been freaking out about doctors consistently for the last two weeks since this allergic reaction so in my head, I was like well obviously all of these symptoms maybe even the increased anxiety is all related to this allergic reaction

And in a way, I think it is I think the doctors at the urgent care making me feel like I wasn’t receiving. Informed consent is essentially giving me a “PTSD flare”

For a little out of context, because when I brought this up to my mother, she said that one of the qualifications for ptsd used to be a life or death situation and I believe I fit that criteria with doctors not specifically the Gynecologist because in sixth grade I got a tonsillectomy and it was not cauterized properly so I bled into my stomach for about two weeks and I became anemic. I had emergency surgery and two different hospital stays.

What I’m thinking about upcoming Gynecologist appointments one of the memories that comes to mine is being very little in elementary school and having a doctor look at my entire body and being very uncomfortable granted not crying but the fact that I’ve held onto this memory for so long.

I don’t know people with PTSD you tell me do you think it’s related?

Hospitalization due to acute anxiety disorders and panic attacks

I suffer from severe agoraphobia, frequent and persistent anxiety attacks, panic attacks, and mild depression. I barely leave the house and I’m currently unable to work. I also wake up during the night with chills. The whole situation is extremely exhausting, both physically and mentally. I wanted to ask if anyone here has received inpatient psychiatric treatment for similar symptoms. Do hospitals admit patients with this kind of condition? If you’ve had a similar experience, how would you rate your stay? Did it help you, and would you recommend inpatient treatment? I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have. Thank you.

Did I actually experience medical malpractice?

it’s been over a year and a half since I had this procedure done. It was a hydrodissection to separate my patellar tendon from the fatty pad using fluid in both of my knees. For those who don’t know, a needle is inserted into the side of the knee and guided to the space between the tendon and fatty pad using ultrasound, and then fluid is inserted there to force them apart.

It wasn’t until later that I found out that generally, the area is numbed before the procedure, and most people only feel slight pressure during it. My doctor didnt give me any kind of numbing or even pain medication. He used cold spray to help as he inserted the needle, but that was only helpful for the very surface of my skin. A nurse had to hold my legs down to keep me still, and I held my sisters had to try and get through it.

It was the most painful experience Ive ever had. I basically crushed my poor sisters hand, and it took all my willpower to stay still, though I couldn’t stop the involuntary jerking I did at certain points. It was done on both knees as well. There was a numbing agent in the actual fluid that was put in my knees, but that didn’t kick in for almost 20 mins, and it was absolutely useless for the five or so minutes where he was digging the needle around to find the right spot.

I guess my question is… would this actually be considered malpractice? And if it is, is it too late to do anything about it?
