Marathon Infinity (1996) MARATHON INFINITY TURNS 30

I know who you are.
You are Destiny.
On this day, 30 years ago, there was a story that ended. A story that transcended time and space, rhyme and reason, fate and destiny. (Not to mention comprehensibility)
On October 15, 1996, Marathon Infinity launched on the Apple Macintosh with the 'Blood Tides of Lh'owon' Narrative and an expanded iteration of Marathon 2: Durandal's already beloved Multiplayer.
And this game had it all! Universe threatening W’rkncacnter, the first appearance of the Forge game editor, and a story that is wildly difficult to comprehend, which made the game all the more fascinating!
With Infinity becoming the third decennial entry into the Marathon Universe (PiD nonwithstanding), the entire trilogy has turned 30! And all that time later it is still around, ripe and ready to be experiences by new fans and reflected upon by the old!
See it here: https://alephone.lhowon.org/
Or on Steam & Mobile! (Hell you can even play it on a mac for the true nostalgia!)
You're Wormfood, Dude
Happy birthday to a game for which the concept of time is irrelevant, give it a playthrough if you want, it's a great time to be had! Feel free to check out its story/lore too, preserved pristinely by the amazing Hamish Sinclair.
30 Years Down, Let's hope for 30 more to go!

Fan Art/Fan Creation "UESC RUNNER OUTREACH" Marathon Fanart
"Once you've chosen to transition from your birth body to become a non-bodied person, the process is irreversible. Decorporealization is the first step to becoming a "Runner"–and it's one you can't take back."
The story being told by the UESC and CyAc outreach about runner programs intrigued me to no end. So, I decided to draw something related to it!

Marathon (2026) Feedback not saying this is what the game needs, but heres my casual girlfriends pov of the game
title
i dont fully agree with all of these but just wanted to share what they think:
- good loot is too rare (mostly pre refresh), most containers and such felt worthless to someone who just wants to use a good gun to shoot bots, and there just isnt enough variety in salvage and valuables
- feels like at times you get absolutely lazered out of nowhere, very little time to react in most fights
- map sizes are "fine"
- golds should drop more from other sources, like with this refresh all of the good players got golds within like 2 days while shes been playing since ALPHA and never seen a single gold, shes only ever found like 1 purple shield
- more items need a purpose, example given was that in arc, EVERY enemy type you kill has an item that does something - i.e snitch drops a throwable that calls enemies, hornet has a stun grenade. marathon doesnt have this
- sometimes pois will have like no containers AT ALL, they will just be completely empty at times and be basically worthless
- cradle should gain xp passively and this should be the main way to level, right now it feels inefficient to sell for money and theres no incentive at all to keep anything
- she gets so little loot she doesnt want to sacrifice stuff, she doesnt get much while good players who grind 24/7 can afford to keep everything but if the cradle leveled naturally she could keep more stuff, sacrificing should be to go faster not the main way

Fan Art/Fan Creation "Eat the Path" Fanart by Dekken (Me)
Made this to celebrate my first Compiler kill. Looking forward to getting the Cryo skin for him when its added. Every loss just had me thinking of Vivec's sermon of "Reach heaven through Violence." That's where they're waiting, after all.

Marathon (2026) Rook on Rook violence levels are crazy high this season
I've never seen so many hostile rooks killing each other. Its 80% on sight right now. Yesterday i was fighting a hostile Rook as a Runner. A Rook came up behind him and killed him. I was under the impression this Rook did it to be on the Runner's side, but he immediately shot at us, so we killed him too.
Again, I walked into Flight Control and found a dead Rook that we didn't kill, we then killed the Rook we saw at final Exfil. Shamed him for killing another Rook.
Last season, I would die to Rook on Rook violence MAYBE once every 50 matches. Now? I am dying to Rook on Rook violence once every 5-10 matches.

Humor FUCK IT. BINGUS IN GOOGLE SLIDES
I used to do a lot of drawing in middle school and high school but Google slides was really the only thing i had access to for drawing. So i got unreasonably good at it. even my current pfp was drawn on Google slides lmao.
Recently I've been using Krita for drawing but it has proven to be a hassle for most stuff, so I'm back at my roots

Marathon (2026) Perimeter is such a beauty
Pretty much what the title says. With the reset happening and everyone going back to perimeter I gotta say I’ll take that map over outpost any day. Yeah I know, the loot sucks but the map itself a lot of fun. I like how spread out it is. The map itself feels like an extraction shooter map.
Outpost just feels like the last circle in a battle royal with extra steps. I do like how fast and easy it is to make a Cryo kit from a successful outpost run but besides gearing up it’s just not fun.
Not a fan of fire marsh at all. The map just feels like they took the worst things about each map and put them all in one.
Excited to see how they expand in December. Lemme know what you guys think. Maybe I’m just missing something when it comes to outpost and darsh.

To The Runner I Met Anyone else a pacifist?
Genuinely curious. I've really fallen for the game, a huge fan of the art and general mechanics of gameplay as fps. I have become hooked playing rook and occasionally doing contracts mostly pure solo. I dont have any interest in these arachne contracts, not trying to hate I just dont care and Im glad it gives you the agency to ignore it. Am I the only fool who does such a ridiculous nonsensical thing?

Marathon (2026) Discussion I’m 100% committed to the worm
I’m changing how I play this and how I tackle progression in the game.
Since the new season I’ve almost exclusively played sponsored, looting gear and doing contracts, but all as a means to the end of feeding the worm. 🐛
I’m sending everything up to and including blues to get as many cradle points as possible.
I figure I can get gear back later when I switch gears. Trying to treat my play through like phases.. this phase is building out my runner. Next phase will be completing contracts and going into non-sponsor. After that… cryo.
I figure the secondary effect of this is I get into gun fights with people who are balanced in gear to get practice in for later.

Marathon (2026) Discussion The decoy grenade from Call of Duty
If you don't know what it does, it makes fake gunfire noise and radar signatures where you throw it. In Marathon that could be fake ping sigs for Recon, Sentinel and TADs.
You think an item like this has a place in the game or would it be too powerful?
It could be a purple grenade. Might provide an option for people that know teams run to where they hear gunfire and set up a play based on that, or if you know you need to be loud, make it that much harder to locate you.
Unrelated side note: I want a shell with the Hologram ability from Halo Reach so badly.

Question Is Marathon worth it now?
Hey,
So I’ve just jumped back on my PC for the first time in over a year, kids are finally now at nursery/school full time so I have more free time and wondering if Marathon is worth buying now?
I’ve played Arc Raiders briefly and enjoy extraction shooter playstyle but my gaming history is basically full time Destiny 2 scrub from launch till about a year ago, and I absolutely love Bungie shooting gameplay
So, is it worth it? I got a lot of free time and potentially will enjoy the gun play?
What’s the negatives? Positives? I’m also a bit skint so I don’t want to throw away £50 on a game that might not be great

To The Runner I Met To the team that I spawned in with on Perimeter and got defeated by UESC ghosts at Overflow, I got you!

Hey!
my username was Retro Room, and we spawned into Perimeter accidentally as my teammate selected it when they meant to select (I presume Dire Marsh) and as I was fending off the bots after they downed you, my game crashed, and when i came back in I noticed that both of you had left (understandably so). I ended up getting your gear and taking it to exfil so you could get it back!
this game is awesome, and enjoy the returned gear!

Media Post I wish more players could experience runs like this. I feel like too many people dont get to this stage where you’re having crazy ups and downs during a run
I feel like if more beginner players could have runs like this it would keep people interested in the game but its hard to recreate this in every run. Idk if that makes sense but thats the thought I had when watching these clips back.
