Discussion $160 for 2g of lip balm - Dior what are we doing?? (AUD)

Post image
168 Upvotes

I am here to criticise the whopping $160 lip balm from Dior that only has TWO GRAMS of product.

Okay I get it, some people think the design is cute, whatever. But seriously, what are we doing? Like it gets to a point. Absolutely insane pricing considering Dior prices aren't as high end as other luxury brands (Sisley, YSL, Chanel, Hermes etc). Now we're reaching La Mer levels of superiority.

I've seen SO many people convert this into a necklace, same with the zippers of the pouches, which I don't really get because if you so desperately want a Dior necklace (and are indifferent to the design) just get the lip butter for $100 cheaper and remove the charm and use that as a pendant (which I actually did lol, got it on sale and thought it would be so cute and it was!).

But this? Not even 100% metal, literally half plastic and $100 more? Somebody tell me I'm not going insane - this isn't normal. And the fact it's selling out and people are scrambling to get it is mind-boggling to me.

Review Maybelline mascara test

Thumbnail

I dont know who needs this but i still decided to do it mainly because i had a really hard time choosing between the two mascaras, because i thought they would not work for me since i never felt like i have the most dense lashes (these really brought my lashes out into the spotlight to my relief, even my bottom lashes which i never thought i have since theyre really spares) and i decided to just get both ๐Ÿ˜ญ
I got both the maybelline waterproof sensational and sky high and i was messing around with them today and heres how it turned out!

Small note: on the left eye (your left) in all the pictures its the sensational mascara! (Also please dont mind my hair its been a rough day๐Ÿฅน)

First picture: on the right eye i used both mascaras, so i first put sensational on the roots for the volume and then sky high on the edges. I must say that i probably dragged the sky high a bit too low and it kind of separated my lashes too much at the root and it didnt keep the volume well unfortunately DESPITE THAT i definitely see a difference because it made both the top and bottom lashes super long which im not mad about!! I love both length and volume. I will definitely keep practicing with both the mascaras and try different techniques till i master how to do it perfectly for my clumpy and voluminous look preference.

Second picture: on the right eye i used just sky high and theres a big difference, surprisingly. It made them really skinny and separated, which to be fair i would not choose over the clumpy and voluminous look, and it felt REALLY REALLY light compared to the sensational, my guess is that its just because they're more separated but idk, it would probably still feel a lot heavier for first time users, depending on how you apply it.

Third picture: its just the sensational on the left, as ive mentioned above, and my other eye is just naked to give a reference as to how my natural lashes look with absolutely nothing, not even a curl, and with the mascara because the difference is mind blowing to me.

I hope some of you found this review, or whatever you wanna call it, useful to maybe make it easier to find a mascara for you or maybe choose between these two specifically!! If you have any questions, opinions or suggestions feel free to tell me, ill try my best to help with any concerns ^^

First time trying a smokey eyeshadow

Products:
maybeline eye pallet Charcoal Smokes
Telescopic mascara
Nyx eyebrow glue
Milani eyebrow color in black for eyeliner and eyebrow
Bare minerals tinted moisturizer in bamboo 5.5
Lawless forget the filler plumping gloss in melrose

I wanted to play with a darker look because I usually go for a no makeup look. This is my first try at a Smokey eye and I think it came out good! But itโ€™s not as bold and dramatic as I was hoping for. Any tips would be appreciated! I used minimal tinted moisturizer as a concealer because Iโ€™m not really going anywhere and this was just practice .
I took photos in different lightings to help get a true feel of how it actually looks.

Question Lipstick that matches Leon in re4

Post image
153 Upvotes

Hey yall! I hope this is the correct sub to ask this in. I absolutely adore the color of Leonโ€™s lips in the resident evil 4 remake. Itโ€™s such a nice blend of purple and grey tones. Does anyone have any lipstick recommendations that match the tones his lips have?? Iโ€™d prefer not matte, as matte lipstick is a sensory nightmare. Sorry for the weird unconventional question ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™

I have been stalking the Ulta and Sephora apps, Too Faced social media, their website, multiple make up trends and drop sites-- the ONLY inkling of this palette is a "sneak peak" and many of us asking for the release date.

WELL, RUN to your local Ulta my friends!! If your holiday shelves aren't already stopped then. They should be stocked by the end of next week.

P.S... it totally smells like chocolate ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ˜ญ

FOTD Improvement from 1 month ago -> now!

Thumbnail

First photo is one month ago, second photo is today! The improvement is SO noticeable for me personally lol. I used to do makeup as my favorite hobby but it's been probably 7 years since I really did much at all, so I'm getting back into it now, and it's been really difficult to re-learn everything.

When I used to do my makeup when I was younger, it was very much just using the same 10 random products that were given to me during Christmas or from friends who didn't like the products lol! It's been super crazy to be an adult with spending money that I can use on products that I actually LIKE and that match me. It took me a long time and a lot of wasted money to find products that really really matched me and worked well for what I wanted but I think after lots of experimenting I've got it down! Plus my little siblings have gotten tons of free makeup donations from me out of it lol.

I've finally come from doing what people online said you need vs now doing what I personally like. I learned I love tons of highlighter and glitter everywhere, brown mascara, lip balms rather than lip oils, no blush or contour (my natural face is so pigmented I literally don't need them at all because my redness + natural contour show through! Plus I love a very flat foundation look) and definitely no bronzer. I also learned I love warm tones and neutrals and REALLY hate cool tones on me, although I keep being told to do cool tones XD I also learned I need my foundation to actually be lighter than my face + that I really don't need pressed powder at all.

First photo (1mo ago):

Nars LR foundation in montblanc

Rare Beauty bronzer in Summer Feels

Rare Beauty liquid pinch blush in Worth

CoverGirl clump crusher mascara in black

ColourPop Stone Cold Fox eyeshadow palette

Nyx brow pencil in Taupe

Rare Beauty Lip oil in serenity

Fenty beauty concealer 120N

Tarte pressed foundation powder 22N

Second photo (now!):

Haus labs triclone foundation - shade 040 + 060 mixed

Fenty beauty concealer 120N

Rare Beauty liquid highlighter in exhilarate

One Size setting powder translucent

Urban Decay naked illuminated powder highlighter (forever SOBBING over this being discontinued but my og from 7 years ago is still going strong)

Nyx brow pencil in Taupe

Eadem lip balm - shade Burnt Malai + boba bounce mixed

Colourpop gone matte eyeshadow palette, 3rd column color story

CoverGirl Clump crusher mascara in brown

Flower Knows swan ballet eyeshadow palette in white swan

One Size waterproof setting spray

Some products I've bought that didn't work for me:

The rare beauty lip oils are very pigmented and beautiful, but they're definitely a lip STAIN, not an oil. They dry down after just a few minutes and if you try to reapply them, the dried product pills up and gets gross after a bit :/

The Tarte creaseless concealer is really oily and gross, actually. If you wear it with mascara, the oils in the concealer break down your mascara over the day and you end up with black undereyes, even with really good long-lasting mascara.

The Maybelline teddy tint is very sticky and doesn't feel good or wear well after a few hours on the lips, although the colors are beautiful

Question Patrick Ta blush burned my face? Photos of skin provided

Thumbnail
gallery
161 Upvotes

With the sephora sale coming up, I am taking stock of the things I have and in what shades so i dont buy something similar or something that doesnt work for me. I have been seeing a lot of ads for the new patrick ta holiday shades so i decided to try on one I have to see if a new one is even something i would be interested in.

I got the shade โ€œSheโ€™s Givingโ€ in the patrick ta blush from ipsy. The photos are the result. It felt like burning and then i noticed some texture started to appear. I immediately washed it off. The photos are from about 5-10 mins after washing it off. It has been about 30-40 mins since application now. Redness has subsided some but texture is still there and it is still slightly stinging

I had nothing else on my face, not even foundation or skincare. I had not tried on any products before this and i was using the same brush i typically do with no irritation. I donโ€™t see any visible mold but took photos so you can have a look as well.

Has anyone else experienced this??

Edit: I have never had an allergic reaction on my skin before. Other people have said this looks like an allergic reaction so Iโ€™ll get tested and see. I do have one other shade that i have only put on once so tomorrow when my skin has calmed down iโ€™m going to do a spot test of that one on my arm to see if the reaction is the same or if this is isolated to this specific shade. If i do have a reaction, ill get allergy tested and ill send those to the lab to see what in the could be causing irritation and/or what i have an allergy to so i can avoid it in future products

Question Brush detectives, I need you! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ What brushes is Natasha Denona using in this eye look?

Post image
88 Upvotes

Okay, I've watched this short Natasha Denona tutorial way more times than I'd like to admit, and I am Iโ€™m hooked on the final look. The blending is so soft and seamless, and I'm determined to recreate it, but I can't for the life of me figure out which brushes she's using. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

๐ŸŽฅ Tutorial: https://youtube.com/shorts/1bIqvvnXzBs?is=EF29ExtZwZiPCSPA
๐Ÿ“ธ Final look: (photo attached)

So I'm calling on all you brush experts out there:
1. Which exact brushes is she using? Names, brands, numbers, anything you can identify!
2. Any dupes or alternatives you'd recommend that do the same job (bonus points for budget-friendly options)
3. Any other products you spot that went into creating this look

BONUS QUESTION: When she applies mascara, she uses something to keep it from smudging onto her eye makeup. Does anyone know what that tool or product is called and which one is worth buying? ๐Ÿ‘€

If you can name even ONE brush, you're my hero.

Thank you in advance ๐Ÿ’œ!

Review Finally was able to find a decent replacement for Nyx Liquid Suede in Sandstorm

Post image
3 Upvotes

About 6 months ago I commented on an old post saying I was going to test out the new fat matte nyx lipstick in the shade Toasty Taupe to see if it could be a decent dupe for the Nyx Liquid Suede lipstick in shade sandstorm that was discontinued years ago.

Took me a while because fat matte was only very recently brought to Europe BUT I am super excited to report that I think my long search has finally come to an end.

Here is that old post : https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/s/VCY1CRvEAo

Apologies for my crusty face I am wearing no makeup other than the lipsticks.

Product list:

- NYX Fat Matte lipstick in shade Toasty Taupe (top lip)

- NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in shade Sandstorm (bottom lip)

The pros:

- The colours are near identical, toasty taupe is slightly darker than sandstorm but the difference is very small.

- one of the things I loved about liquid suede was how comfortable it is to wear, fat matte is also a very comfortable wear and feels very smooth and nourishing on the lips.

The cons:

- different formulas means different dry downs and liquid suede is slightly shinier on the lips than fat matte, this isn't super bothersome to me though again It may be to others

- I cannot yet comment on fat matte's durability throughout a day of wearing it as I literally just bought it today but I will update once I have tested that out to it's full extent.

This may only truly matter to me and a select few people who were big fans of sandstorm but I did promise on that post that I would update and there was at least one person who was interested in the results. I can no longer comment on the post so I hope this reaches the person who was asking about it!

How can I recreate this lip color?

I love the look on this photo and I would love to recreate it but I am not much of a makeup guru and I canโ€™t tell what shades or products she must have used. I am especially curious about the lip color.
I appreciate any ideas for product/ shade/ application ๐Ÿ–ค

Discussion Have you ever in your life encountered a mascara that wasn't clumpy?

My favorite mascara used to be the too faced original better than sex, I liked that mascara because it was very wet and it would take a while to dry, therefore you had a lot of time to comb through your lashes and smooth all the potential clumps.

I have stopped buying it because it's too expensive and I swear to God I still haven't found a mascara that isn't clumpy, I have naturally long lashes that aren't very thick, so most mascaras make them look like spider legs. I have been through like 20 mascaras now and I still haven't found one that I like.

What's crazy is that I see a lot of girls with spider legs lashes and they are totally fine with it and love the look, I just can't bring myself to appreciate it on myself, I like spiky looking lashes.

Do you guys have any recommendations? Even popular products like the essence green princess lash doesn't look good on me
