I know this might sounds like a very oddly specific post but Please read the whole thing so that you can understand where this comes from.

So, I am currently a 21 years old English Literature student who is minoring in Psychology. US has always been my favourite country and The best job market and the degree programs for my field of study are based on The USA. So, in a way, I have no choice but to go there if I really wanna realize my goals. Plus, though there are a lot of things that I don't fully agree on, I really do love American culture and what it means to be standing there.

- Hope this explains why I am specifically looking for US based friends.

Now, moving to the Military part.

I am the eldest daughter of the family and growing up, I could witness my dad's "military phase" so to speak. My younger brother did not get it the way I did.

It has been my dad's life long dream to join the Army but when he was actually about to do it, my grand mother got sick. She was the only parent him and his 4 other siblings had at the moment, back in those days. So, he became a fire fighter instead and now he is a senior airport fire fighter.

Growing up, he had his army buddies hanging around the house all the time. I heard their stories, the books they shared with me and how they argued about which one is the most realistic, how they had hours long calls because one of his friends was drowning in trust issues etc etc.

So, that was my childhood.

Then I grew up, ofc, and the military friends stopped having frequent hang outs. Most of them were married, or employed. My dad also stopped initiating conversations about military unless I asked. But somehow I became a huge military fan. I have volunteered at VA hospitals and when I got to know about military penpal programs, I was very happy but then that happiness was turned around because I realized there are no available military penpal programs in my own country. That's how the US came in, again. Haha. I registered at US based online volunteer programs and have sent letters and stuff to soldiers. We did not get any replies, but I was happy to send them. Then I could talk to some more through other platforms too and I could actually meet someone half way their deployment and could finish it with them. Those connections have always been really beautiful.

Then, Life got busy and I could not be actively engaging in such activities. But, in the beginning of this year, I read a book called, "Dear Aaron" and the military lover buried inside me just sprang up, which made my ADHD ass start writing a book, in which the main character was a Marine. So, I started watching documentaries, movies and talking to people who has served in the USMC to learn about their experiences. \[Yes, I am a perfectionist\]

So, I hope that explains the "military" part of the topic.

Now that I am settled in the phase of University life, I think It's time for me to meet a new military friend. I did not know about Reddit before but I think it's a great place to make more direct contacts. Does not matter if you are deployed or in the home station; if you are looking for friends to share life with, to vent, to watch movies with, share letters, etc - I am down. Brownie points, if you are a marine because you can be or help the main character of my story. I won't ask for anything you can not share because I know OPSEC exists and also the reason why I decided to make this long post is mainly to avoid any misunderstandings of my intentions.
