Your main responsibility is to develop task ideas that test the limits of frontier AI models, rather than implementing the tasks yourself.

Who qualifies?

Candidates must have current or recent ML research experience and hands-on expertise with PyTorch or JAX.

Strong knowledge in at least one of the following areas is required: LLMs, GPU inference, reinforcement learning, or scientific ML.

Experience developing AI benchmarks, research publications, or advanced academic qualifications is an advantage.

That opens up a different path into AI for people who may not be programmers at all.

The broader pattern seems to be:

AI engineering → building the systems

Data science → analyzing and improving models

AI training/evaluation → improving model outputs

Domain experts → bringing specialized knowledge

Language specialists → improving multilingual models

So if you have deep expertise in a field outside software, the AI job market may be becoming more relevant to you than it was even a year ago.
