Remote AI hiring is getting much more specialized — 4,500 live roles right now
One thing I’m noticing in the latest AI/ML listings: the market is moving well beyond just “ML Engineer” or “Data Scientist.”
There are currently 4,500 live AI & ML jobs, and the newest batch is heavily focused on domain expertise + AI training.
A few trends that stood out:
Materials Science AI Trainers — Prolific Academic
Remote roles across multiple locations including Miami, Washington, Calgary, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
Neuroscience AI Trainers — Prolific Academic
Fully remote roles showing up in places like Edinburgh, Raleigh and other research-focused locations.
Advanced Korean Fluency AI Trainers — Prolific Academic
Remote openings across San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Toronto, London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin and Sydney.
Advanced Japanese Fluency AI Trainer — Prolific Academic
Remote opportunity linked to Hong Kong.
What I find interesting is that these are not traditional software roles.
AI companies increasingly need people with actual subject-matter expertise — scientists, researchers, linguists, healthcare specialists, engineers and other domain experts — to help train, evaluate and improve models.
That opens up a different path into AI for people who may not be programmers at all.
The broader pattern seems to be:
AI engineering → building the systems
Data science → analyzing and improving models
AI training/evaluation → improving model outputs
Domain experts → bringing specialized knowledge
Language specialists → improving multilingual models
So if you have deep expertise in a field outside software, the AI job market may be becoming more relevant to you than it was even a year ago.
Curious what people here think: will specialized domain experts become one of the biggest AI hiring categories over the next few years?
