I am trying to open my laptop to install RAM. I have verified 100% that all 12 screws are completely removed (including the one hidden under the factory seal). The front and sides are loose, but the back edge is completely locked up and won't budge. It feels completely stuck on the loops around the HDMI port and the side audio jacks. Horizontal pushing, shifting, and prying are not working. How do I physically unhook the plastic casing from these specific ports without snapping them please help

I bought my laptop in June 2026. When I first turned it on, I noticed that it had 31.7 GB of RAM. Two or three days ago, I performed a factory reset using MSI Recovery, but now it shows 36 GB of RAM. How can I reset it to 32 GB? I have tried MSI Recovery several times, but the RAM amount never returns to 32 GB.

Hello guys, i have a small issue and maybe someone can help me ? I'm on Msi Vector 16 HX AI 5080

Sometimes my msi center seems not to work, like switching profiles doesnt change fans mode

(for exemple while gaming i need to go from eco-silent to balanced to be able to not be capped at 30fps and go to 200 as always but even when i put balanced or extreme the fans doesnt run faster than eco-silent [it happens like twice a week, usually switching profiles change fan mode] )

When it happens my only solution is to restart the laptop and after the restart msi center is working properly

To avoid to have to restart the laptop mid game and finish the game i'm on, it would be nice to have a key to switch fans mode or control fans speed
I have one (FN+Up arrow) but its only to activate full speed fan mode that is very noisy while balanced would be more than efficient

Is there a way to change the binding or maybe i'll have to create a macro?

Is there a reason MSI keeps the big bezel and not make the screen 16:10 when everyone does it. I bought the MSI GS43VR 7RE when it came out in 2017 and it was good

I'm guessing MSI keeps the bezel big to show it's a MSI laptop, I might just go with a Lenovo or Asus laptop instead.

When I turn on my laptop after a minute or so its battery gets completely drained. I had this issue a while ago but after changing a few settings it seemed to be fixed, now it is happening again. Apart from that laptop is working perfectly well and if I take it of the charger while it got some percentage it doesn't do that anymore, just after the first powering. Msi center shows battery master function as ok. Battery report in the photo.

I got a laptop, I don't really know anything about it, really, and I had this laptop for 2-3 years? I've been told this is a gaming laptop, and it does feel very heavy compared to other laptops. I'm assuming it can take on heavy tasks. The main concern here is that my parents don't want me to use it while it's plugged in. I'm not really into prolonged gaming, and I'm just a casual roblox player with 1-2 hours of screen time at most. My laptop turns off once it reaches 30 percent, and I opted to plug in my charger when I play with my friends. My parents caught me playing for 5 minutes while my laptop was plugged in. Is it really that big of a deal? I've researched that laptops work better when there's no battery/energy restrictions. Am I at fault? ☹️

I was cleaning my fan and when I put it all back together the fan started making this humming noise and the whole laptop was vibrating. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?

My Katana 15 HX with an RTX 5070 never goes above about 55 W GPU power, even in a GPU-only stress test with the CPU idle and temps in the 50s. MSI lists up to 115 W (with Dynamic Boost, "may vary by scenario"). Is this normal, or can anyone get more out of theirs?

**Laptop**

- MSI Katana 15 HX B14WGK, i7-14650HX, RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, 16 GB RAM

- Windows 11 Pro, NVIDIA driver 591.44

- Original 240 W charger, plugged in

- BIOS: updated from E1587IMS.105 to E1587IMS.108

**Settings**

- MSI Center: Extreme Performance, Discrete Graphics Mode

- Windows power mode: Best Performance

- "NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework" and the Intel Dynamic Tuning components are installed, with no errors in Device Manager

**What I measured**

- `nvidia-smi -q -d POWER` shows Default, Current and Requested Power Limit = 55 W, Max = 115 W

- FurMark GPU test, 5 minutes, CPU idle: the GPU held 54.8 to 55.0 W at 49 to 57 C and about 1,500 MHz. The only active throttle reason was SW Power Cap (no thermal slowdown, no power brake)

- After the BIOS update, a combined CPU + GPU FurMark gave the CPU about 100 W and the GPU about 55 W

- In games the GPU also stays under 60 W

- `nvidia-smi -pl 115` gives "Changing power management limit is not supported"

- MSI Center's advanced menu only has core/VRAM clock offsets and fan speed, no power limit

**Questions**

1. Does your Katana 15 HX 5070 go above 55 W under load?

2. Is 55 W the normal base on this model, with Dynamic Boost only kicking in in some scenarios? What triggers it?

3. Did a specific BIOS version or MSI Center setting change it for you?

If you can, run this while stressing the GPU and tell me what you see:

I tried undervolting my CPU using these settings, but I think I may have reduced performance after setting PL1 to 55W and PL2 to 70W. I later found out that this laptop can draw up to 100W for CPU-only workloads, so I’m thinking I should adjust the TPL limits. As for the ratios, should I increase them to reach 5 GHz?

For the GPU, I settled on 2707 MHz at 850 mV. Although I haven’t tested it extensively yet, this seems to have reduced temperatures by around 6°C and power consumption by 12W. However, after running Cinebench R23 GPU Test, I got 46,000 points without undervolting and 43,000 with undervolting, which is a performance loss of roughly 7%.

What would you recommend to avoid losing performance while keeping the benefits of undervolting? Should I try overclocking the GPU memory?

I’d also really appreciate it if anyone with the same hardware could share their CPU and GPU undervolting settings.

YouTube is now full of reviews on nvidia rtx spark based laptops, with msi n16 with 128gb ram in the mix, i can get a good discount with these at work however i am not a windows user, how are msi laptops with linux these days?

Does rtx spark drivers work well on linux? Older laptops seem to report laptop/trackpad lag issues, sound crackling and webcam issues, does anyone know if the n16 has the same issues? Are they using similar chipsets for these things?

For almost two years now I own an msi titan 18hx. And even though its fast it never really blew me away performance wise. It was struggling with ac black flag resynced, Cyberpunt etc.

And then a couple of weeks ago I sent my laptop for repair because some keys stopt working. When I got it back I immediately noticed how quick everything was. I installed black flag and it run 55fps on the highest settings without a problem. Cyberpunk, highest setting between 50 and 60 fps. Even The Witcher 3 remasterd with pathtracing and frame generation between 50 and 60 fps.

This lasted for two and a half weeks. In the morning I played The Witcher without any problems, when I started the game in the evening again it went from 55fps to 20fps in about 15 seconds. even if I turn on raytracing completely i do not get more then 40 - 45 fps. Same thing with the other games.

I reinstalled windows, I cleaned the fans, I placed new thermal paste but nothing results in better performance. 15 seconds in game and the voltage to the gpu is being cut from 170+ watts to 90 something.

I really do not understand why it is thermal throttling all of a sudden. Or why my laptop performed so well for two and a half weeks. Is there anybody who can help with this?

For a year, my tracked max temps CPU and GPU will fall between 33-36⁰c at total idle.

This week, there's nothing I can do to get my temps under 48⁰c. That's the new permanent baseline, almost overnight. EDIT: Overnight of switching back to Hybrid GPU mode after a brief stint in Discrete.

Does anybody have a theory or any suggestions?

I used to feel comfortable leaving it open for hours, the fan is driving me crazy though now.

So I just got the new MSI Vector 16 Hx Ai, Intel Ultra 9 275Hx, RTX 5070 Ti 12Gb. And whenever I run UEFN and right click on static meshes, the screen freezes goes black and restarts, my eye care settings don't even register on restart. I changed the viewport scale to 1.6 and now the right click works. Now sometimes when I am working it just freezes and does the black screen and then shows up. Sometimes it beeps as I move my mouse.

I was playing Control Resonant for about 4 hours and the GPU just crashed mid game. I work really long hours and I need the GPU to do as it says and handle heavy workload for a long time.

So, basically I have had this MSI modern 15 for a year now and never had a single problem until, a month ago or so, it started giving problems on turning on.

Let me explain: the laptop simply started doing nothing whenever I pressed the power button but usually trying to press it some more times actually works except this time it doesn't.

Literally I press the power button, long press it or repeatedly press it but still nothing happens no matter what I try.

I've already tried to do the EC reset as for the MSI website suggested but still nothing happens and I am starting to think it's a button malfunction.

For further details you should know that when plugging the charger the led charging does not turn on (or at least usually it doesn't even tho this morning it did for just a couple of minutes) but idk if this could be related to the battery being fully charged.

Also there is a small hole on the back of the computer like a reset button but on the user manual that came with the laptop it says it is "optional" and, in fact, trying to press inside of it does nothing as if there wasn't even a button at all.

I've tried it all but I don't know what to try next and it really bothers me since the laptop is less then a year old and I'm desperate.

I won't try to open it or take a look at the inside or something because it still has it's warranty but the thing is I need it to power on at least one last time before sending it to repair because I desperately need to finish and save a backup of the work project I was working on.

This situation started yesterday and except for the led briefly turning on this morning nothing really changed since.

Can someone help me in any way? Is there something I can do to power it on bypassing the power button or something?

So i have a MSI Cyborg 15 A2RUDX for a Month now and theres a firmware update sitting on the Optional Updates waiting to be checkboxed and installed i have previous ptsd from my Dell Presition by a bios update that i didnt expect or know it was there so if theres a known issue with MSI Firmware Update breaking Laptops i aint gonna update it unless if windows forced me to or it fixes vurniablitly
