X13 G3 Yoga - "Gen 4" vs Gen 4 NVME

Recently got myself a used X13 Yoga with i5 1235u, 16gb ram and it has a 256gb drive, a KBG5AZNV256G LA KIOXIA which presents as "Gen 4" runs @ Gen 3 speed.

Has anyone found it worthwhile to upgrade to a true Gen 4 SSD from this budget facing one?

For reference (not that it matters) im running standalone Linux Mint and this machine is just for general web use only, I dont game on it although if I top it up to a 500gb I may start to run some low end stuff (I have a gaming PC for the real thing).

Any difference in boot times and general use?

refurbished laptop as a main daily driver laptop

hey people,

about a year ago i bought refurbished thinkpad t14 gen1 for about $250 and installed linux on it. initially only to play with linux (long time mac user here) but i got hooked on it immediately and have been using it as a daily driver laptop since then and not going back to mac, i know that for sure. it's been pretty smooth ride and simply i don't need new laptop with newest hardware because this older one simply works as fast as i need it.

the RAM prices surged i thought "why don't people buy more refurbished laptops?". there are really tons of options how to get bang for a buck.

so i build this little directory, herding together bunch of sources for refurbished laptops. it sources laptops shipping worldwide and/or to specific countries, so depending where you live, you may find easily pretty good deal for yourself without needing to browse through bunch of different shops.

let me know what you think.

ciao!

Hi

This is my First ThinkPad ever and of course installed Linux right away Windows 11 was terrible on this machine.

Installed Fedora 44 KDE Plasma Desktop Edition

Specs :

Intel 12 Gen i5 1235U CPU

32 GB DDR4 3200 Mhz

512 GB Samsung Nvme SSD

GPU Intel Iris Xe

Display 1920x1200 pixel touch display

It seems to be in a very good condition just the right USB port looks funny but works and some coil wine on Performance mode but probably ok.

It was from eBay for 342 euro with shipment without the charger so I needed 22 euro again for the Charger.

What do you think was that a good used ThinkPad deal?

What do you think about fedora distro for my daily work

Post image

Hi guy's, I just update my ThinkPad T520 with 12GB RAM and SSD 2TB , it's not my main laptop but i like it a lot and it's look very cool to use, I was using Windows 10 on it and it's become boring and heavy on the CPU , so i was thinking to get Linux distro and i don't know which one i should get , before i use POPOS and Mint but they was looking ugly , i see couple of videos on YouTube about a fedora 44 OS , and I'm looking forward to get it on my laptop , the OS looking so clean and modern , i think i can learn more about Linux , i Wish to Get Arch but it's look so Hard to deal with it so i was wondering a good UI and Customizable OS would be a GOOD choose for me ..

So i was wondering is it good on my laptop, and what is your suggestions for my daily work apps or program

excuse my English I'm still learning

Advise Thinkpad T14 gen 2

I'd like some advice on which of these to choose for a Linux distro (Arch). Same price.
It is used for web research and programming.

  1. Intel i5-1145G7 RAM 32 GB | SSD 1 TB (Only Touchscreen)
  2. Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U RAM 16 GB | SSD 512 GB

Question P14s Gen 5 battery life on CachyOS?

I'm running CachyOS on a ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel with a57Wh battery and WUXGA screen, having implemented lazy rcu and tuned-cachy, I get about 4.5 to 5 hours of battery life, would that be considered fairly decent?

Question Which Thinkpad is good for me?

Hi! I'm pretty new here, I'm currently in AUS and I was looking for a 13' used laptop with OLED display (or a good LED), AMD cpu not super recent but with at least 8/16 cores, at least 16gb ram NON SOLDERED and usbc 4.0.

my budget is around 1000AU$ but I accept any advice!

I was looking for the z13 g1 but it's basically impossible to find and I'm not sure about the ram being soldered or not, do anyone have some advice? I'll mainly use it with fedora or a derivate distro and I might do some light gaming or PS3 emulation on it, but will mainly be a simple travel laptop. I need the usbc 4.0 to plug a eGPU that I might use when at home.

thanks in advance!

Discussion Distro for my Thinkpad

I just got a T14 with Core i5 and 32GB of RAM.

I tried Omarchy, but it doesn't run as smooth as I would like to.

So I want to ask, what distros do you guys recommend to run on my Thinkpad? I bought as a secondary device, for notes, coding and some multimedia.
