Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

→ Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

→ Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Hii everyone! I'm 27f from Italy.
I'm looking for a language partner to practice spoken english . I'm around B2 (i think haha), but I'd like to speak more fluently and confidently .. I'm planning to move abroad, so I want to feel at ease communicating in english.
In exchange, I'm happy to help you with italian , whether that's conversation, pronunciation or everyday expressions.
A bit about me: I love embroidery, and I'm really into films and tv series. I also enjoy documentaries, so I'm always up for talking about what we've watched lately. Recommendations are very welcome!
We could chat by voice messages, calls or text, whatever works for you. If you're interested, send me a message and tell me a bit about yourself! 😊

Offering Multiple Languages (Offering: Korean, English | Seeking: German)

I am a professional / evening graduate student (U.S. history) living near NYC, native Korean speaker and fluent in English.

My interests include private international law, wildlife, travel, and knitting/crochet/beadwork.

I am approximately low-intermediate in German - can read newspapers and social media but cannot speak very well. Seeking to improve listening and writing, mostly. Being able to be an animal nerd or a law nerd would be an additional plus.

Hey! I'm 20M from Russia, looking for someone from the US to practice my English with and hopefully make some friends.

I'm into gaming, tech, movies, and honestly just talking about random stuff. I'd like to get better at everyday English and learn how people actually speak in the US.

Not really looking for formal lessons or anything, just someone to chat with regularly and get to know better over time.

I can help with Russian too if you're interested!

Feel free to DM me :)

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Arabic , English | Seeking: German.

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’ve just started learning German and I’m looking for a German speaker who would like to do a regular language practice. I can offer Arabic (native) and English (fluent) in return for German.

At the moment my German is around B1, so I’m mainly looking to get more comfortable using the language, rather than just studying it from a textbook.

Ideally, I’d love to find someone who is committed and consistent and would be happy to chat regularly, even short conversations are absolutely fine.

I 30m live in The States and I really want to learn more about both the languages and cultures of China and Japan. I already know some basics of both languages and I can read Hiragana and Katakana. I love linguistics so much and I really want to finally achieve a childhood dream of mine and learn both Mandarin and Japanese. I know it'll be hard to do(I like a challenge). I like drawing, painting, writing, reading, playing guitar, video games, music, TV shows, and movies. I really hope we can be friends.

Offering English Offering English, Polish, seeking English

• Upvotes

Hi ! I’m a 29M from Poland, and I’m looking for someone to improve our English together or exchange Polish for English.

My English is around C1, although I’d say it’s probably a weak C1. I want to improve my speaking and writing skills, so I’m open to both chatting and voice calls.

I also think it’s great that we can learn about each other’s cultures, share music, talk about our countries.

Thanks for reading!

Offering Italian Offering: Italian - Seeking: English and Spanish

Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Luca, ho 32 e vivo in Italia.

Offering German Offering German and English | seeking Arabic

• Upvotes

Have you ever wanted to speak natural, perfect, mistakes-free English/German? To be able to speak about deep topics, understand anything, do anything in the language? I can make it happen with the language-exchange arrangement I offer.

Every time I send you a word list. For every fixed amount of words you translate to khaliji Arabic (including harakat) - you get a 50 minutes session (via a voice call). I can teach you, practice with you + correct your mistakes, answer language questions, etc.

I'm not like other people. I make it the easiest, most memorable to learn, practical to use, thorough. Other people may teach you something new - I say the nuances no one thinks about, so you sound more native, how not to make mistakes with it, etc. Other people will throw verbs at you (in German). It's useless without the correct prepositions and nuanced differences in meaning between verbs and prepositions. Every verb that I teach, you'll be able to use mistakes-free and intuitively every single time. Others will ignore mistakes to keep the conversation flowing. They won't say the exceptions to rules. They won't suggest little add-ons and modifications to things, to make you sound more intelligent/native/serious.

But I'm a true-perfectionist and someone who cares. For every grammar topic, I have in mind the best learning algorithms to cover everything you need to know and make it easy, memorable and quick. I'm a linguistics' expert, with more than 6 languages, some entirely self-taught. I'm (f) an advanced-year medical student - I'm very sharp to details, perfectionist, knows how to learn things right.

Offering Spanish Offering: Spanish (Native) | Seeking: English (Native) | 31m

• Upvotes

I am a native Spanish speaker currently learning English. I have been practicing on my own, but I really want to get more comfortable having natural, regular conversations to improve my fluency.

I am a very patient person, so whether you are just starting out with Spanish or trying to refine your conversation skills, I am more than happy to help you practice at your own pace!

A bit about me:

- Reading and Media: I am a big fan of reading, including fiction, non-fiction, manga, and manhwa (thrillers, mystery, and fantasy are great). I also enjoy good movies and cinema soundtracks.

  • Hobbies: I like staying active with calisthenics and fitness, listening to music, and exploring tech or software projects.
  • I am inquisitive

I am pretty easygoing and do not mind making mistakes or taking time to figure out the right words, because that is all part of learning. We can chat about books, daily life, hobbies, or whatever topics interest you. We can do text messages or voice calls, whichever feels more comfortable.

If you are a native speaker who wants to practice Spanish, feel free to drop me a comment or send me a message!

Ideally the time difference is not that big. My timezone is UTC-3.

Your commitment is important.

Offering Mandarin Offering Mandarin | Seeking English, German, Spanish and Russian

Hi guys, I’m a 22F native Mandarin speaker. I love music, reading, cooking, working out, writing, and basically anything interesting.

I’m really into language learning. I currently work in a multicultural industry, so I want to learn practical daily conversationalh phrases and make some friends.

My English is C1 level (IELTS 7). I know a bit of German aber just basic vocabulary. I’ve just started learning Spanish, and I took one semester of Russian back in university.

As for my Mandarin: I’ve passed the Mandarin Proficiency Test, Level 1 Grade B. I heard this is the graduation requirement for some broadcasting majors in China, so I can teach you very standard, reliable Mandarin😼

Btw, I used to be a volunteer at my university’s international office. So it helped a lot with building international friendships!

Hope you’re polite and fun. Feel free to DM me if you’re interested!
