Did a bit of customization to the armor I got last year, and brought it out for Solarean Adventures' October event. It moves so much better than the old armor!

I took some pictures with the sun behind me! Also working diligently on the next LARP video ;)!

Hi everyone :D!

Another week, another LARP :)!

I wanted to share, what I myself feel like are some awesome pictures of me in my LARP outfit! With the sun at my back and the colorful sky above me! I here was about to open the library hall, and indeed open up my large book for business. It was a lovely day out, despite the weather here in Denmark starting to get colder and colder.

I actually took these pictures myself accidentally, while filming with my 360 camera, for a future potential video. And so through the post production process, I noticed the opportunity for these angles, which were great for still photos :D!

Speaking of videos, some of you may have seen my previous video where I edited a mood-film like LARP-day game into a 20 min. atmospheric piece. And where I in said post, talked about a follow-up video. This video is indeed still in the works, and I have spend many a hour this week editing upon it. I will be most excited to share it with you all once it's completed, but between work and daily duties these things take time, haha :D!

Should you wish to watch the original mood-film video while waiting for the follow-up one I'm working on you can watch the mood-film video here: "https://youtu.be/SkNSzCbroFg?si=LDZpnXOm19zRhuB_"

Thank you all for you time, All the best,
-Zach.

My soft kit and armor for Knights of the Northeast1

Hi everyone! Here are a few shots of me from my armored HEMA group’s late 14th/ early 15th century historical event with foam weapons.

The linen and wool combo kept me nice and warm during my event. Given the weather, most of us opted for relatively light kit.

I’ll be commissioning a new arming doublet at some point.

Went to my first larp game yesterday

It was very fun, I played as a fae pirate with jellyfish hair, for now I have this cheap little toy sword just for the picture until I get my own proper sword

I was having trouble with the roleplay because I imagine my character as being a bratty kind of character partly inspired by Loki, do some shenanigans and annoy people for fun and think about the consequences later, but it’s hard to do that cause it feels mean even though I know it’s just pretend, I’ve been told I’ll get more into it as I continue to attend more games

My friend went as well, he had invited me to the group and is very large, has full plate armor, and a giant axe, he’s cool, I was able to mess with his character just fine cause I already know him irl

Best shield for a ranger

Thumbnail

I'm debating what type of shield would be better for my ranger garb.

He's surviving and patrolling in the woodlands the majority of the time, so portability and convenience are very important. The more frequent encounters are against beasts/monsters/creatures or brigands. His weapons are a bow and either a kopis-style short sword or a tomahawk-style axe.

I was thinking of either a Scottish targe or a Hungarian punch shield (both reference in the pictures). I think they both could be a good fit, but I don't know which one would be THE best.

Both types of shields are strapped shields, allowing things to be carried and used in the left hand while using the shield, like a torch, a dagger, a bag, loot or even using a bow (blumineck made a good short about shooting bows with the Hungarian shield).

Both shields would be about the same length (a bit longer than from my fingertips to my elbow) but the targe being round as obviously more area so it offers more protection but is heavier and could be more cumbersome.

I'm a beginner larper so I don't have a ton of experience with using shields in the wilderness. Would the round shield, even though bigger would have less tendency to get snagged on branches and stuffs? Is the increased protection offered by the bigger shield worth the added bulkiness? Is the Hungarian shield enough for the type of encounters he could face?

If you have other suggestions, don't hesitate to share.

Thanks a lot.

Attended my first Larp this year

I and two of my TTRPG players attended Conquest of Vastarland in Iowa, and it was one of the most fun things I've ever done. I went in with a pretty basic character, and I came out with conflicts, complex relationships, and a new eye. I'm absolutely hooked.

Question about Chamber Larps and being both a Player and a Facilitator at the same time

Yesterday I played my very first Chamber/Nordic Larp (a game called Perfection where you play as organisers of a cult) and I absolutely loved it!

I was already an avid player and GM of TTRPGs, but this showed me a whole new dimension of what the medium of roleplaying games can do.

I'm now looking into maybe organising my own chamber larps but was wondering about the role of facilitator and player.

My question is: Is it possible to play as both a facilitator and a player at the same time?

I know it depends on the scenario and amount of setup and facilitating during the game, but is it a general given that facilitators usually are more on the side line facilitating the game instead of being part of the story and improvising along with the rest of the group?

I'm asking cause I would love to play along with my fellow players, because that's what I found so appealing about the Perfection chamber larp yesterday. That I could really immerse myself in the character and creating the experience together with my fellow players.

But I don't want that desire to come at the cost of my fellow player's experience.

I'm currently eyeing The Life Of Mermaids and that larp says it is possible for the facilitator to be a player in a pinch if they are familiar with the game.

Also, what chamber larps do you recommend I check out?

Thanks for answering and sorry if these are all noob questions (larping is a new experience for me :)

First Garb - Looking for advice!

I got my first few pieces of attire for my completely new LARP-persona that I intend to go live with next year. Completely new to the LA part of LARP, but quite a lot years in the RP part.

Looking for general advice on how to add to my attire, what to go for, what are general beginner mistakes to avoid.

But also looking for some specific advice in terms of style. Right now I bought some stuff to see what fits and how it looks, got it relatively cheaply. My idea is pretty much a late medievalised Fantasy Roman-Valyrian look in the end. Elder Scrolls Cyrodiilic Empire meets Valyrian Freehold basically. My character's colours will be blue, blue-grey, grey range, I want to use green and burgundy for accents and layers.

I got some inspirations and ideas, but really need some more practical and experienced input.

Looking forward to hearing your C&C! :)

Edit:

Climate northern to central mediterranean is the goal. Equally adjusted for LARP-summer season and me hating hotness. :D

Profession: He is an Imperial Knight, that means he is a noble who had both a professional education as well as the martial upbringing of a classical knight+legionary (in his world). His profession is in fact an engineer, like roads, wells, fortifications etc. I actually got charcoal, chalk, a plumb bob and wax tablet on my to-buy list

DIY glowing latex stake

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey! I am completely new to LARP and DIY costumes and I want to ask for some advice from more experienced people.

I have a core less latex stake, like the one in the picture, that is filled with foam. I need to make it appear obviously magical. I was thinking about cutting off the back, hollowing it out, inserting a red LED, glueing the back on again and adding a button to switch on the LED. Afterwards I thought about cutting sigils into the stake from which the LED light can shine through.

Do you think this can work? Or do you have a better idea on how to realize that? I would really appreciate your advice.

If relevant: I‘m playing VtM LARP and the stake is blood magic infused. My fellow players should see that.

How to Night camp attack?

As a general concept of attacking a camp in the middle of the night to un-alive specific target or steal goods. How is it manage at your larp?

-What are the rules to attack in the night and wake-up the defenders?

-Does It requires an official?

-Is there an hour limit. Like no attack between 3am and 6am.

-Is prior interaction/roleplay required before being able to make a night attack?

Funny larp stories

I recently started larping (UK) and unfortunately some of thr larp attendees have ruined the hobby for me, lots of catty high-school mentally while being mid 20s+.

To cheer me up do you guys have any funny larp stories, words of wisdom etc?.

I'd love to hear it 🩵

Anyone else feeling those LARP blues?

Last event for me was back in September. Nothing like sitting around a fire, drinking some good drink and gambling that IC coin. April seems so far away and I haven’t booked into any player events in the UK between now and then.

Planning on making some camp bits in the mean time and repairing some kit. I am not falling victim to scrolling through listings and buying shiny things!!!(I absolutely will).

So what’s everyone’s plans in the long dark for most?

Character Retirement: Sad, Impactful, Amazing?

Here's some background information. I'm actually Staff at a LARP. I joined up a few years back as a way to reconnect with some old friends and get back into boffer. Now I have way too many NPCs I play. But they've all started off the same way... player character doesn't have a teacher for [insert class/magic/craft], higher ups see me throwing some kit together, "hey can you run out and teach [player name] some [skill school], I say sure, and next thing you know I have yet another wacky combination of teaching skills on my NPC. (an aside: my favorite being an NPC Cleric to the god of wine and revelry who got stuck with Necromancy as a second class.)

Now, a couple years back I got randomly assigned to portray a cleric teacher for the goddess of love, life, and beauty because the player's old teacher stepped back and didn't have an ETA on when they'd be back. This actually blossomed into a lot of fun and in-jokes and a small community thing as this NPC. And this weekend, her character is getting retired.

After filling in last second, and helping this player finally complete their cleric school list and become a high cleric, I will be helping them officiate an in-game wedding that ties up a big part of their backstory, and then they are off to their final plot mod. The player in question needs to step back from game because of wonderful life opportunities. But they've been playing this character for about a decade. Sure, I've only been there for the latter third of their existence but this is the first long-term PC student of mine that will be moving on. The character will be retired, the player won't be back for a year or more, and a decade of story will be coming to a fitting end in a way that ties together so much of the work their character has done in that time.

So how do people feel about character retirement? In many ways, its a necessity. Big sheets being big sheets for years makes certain things tough for newer players. But Big Sheets also bring their years of experience and knowledge. And then also having to give up a character you have played for years can feel almost like losing a part of yourself. There's an obvious emotional impact to letting go of something like that. But having it end in an amazing way must feel better than the character fizzling out.

We've had our fair share of player characters over the years that needed to retire and had amazing send-offs, epic final battles, and somber farewells. This will just be the first time that its been a PC that I have been so intrinsically tied to as one of my NPCs for a number of years.

So, whether from the staff-side or from player-side, how do you handle the emotional release of character retirement, the closure of an entire story arc of personal plot, having to move on from something you have poured time and energy into? I'm expecting this weekend's game to be amazing, impactful, and bittersweet... I can't wait to see how the plot comes to a close, I can't wait to help facilitate these big moments for her character, but I'm also dreading the loss of those years of cleric lessons over tea and finger sandwiches as we talked about the church and philosophy while using her friends and compatriots as our test dummies for new spells in sometimes hilarious ways.
