This is unironically one of the only good subreddits on this entire site

If not for KIA and maybe TrueUnpopularOpinion, I'd have stopped using this garbage site a long time ago.

Every other community is run by power-tripping basement dwellers who will censor and tone-police whatever you say. I'm not even talking about ones that are primarily focused on politics, I'm talking about EVERY SINGLE ONE. You're required to behave like you're in an HR meeting, down to the words you choose to use. One of my posts (Which had hundreds of upvotes by the time of its removal), was removed yesterday solely for saying "mogged." Another time, I was permanently banned from a sub for lonely people because I'm active here. I didn't even break any rules. Oh yeah, the same thing happened in one about a disability I have because I used a no-no word (The "r word" in this particular case), to describe myself.

Half the time, I can't even submit anything before a bot scrubs it automatically.

This is the only place I feel welcome. Thank you to whoever created it.

Does anyone else miss straightforward villains without all the tragic backstory baggage?

I'm not judging anyone's preferences, but nowadays so many villains end up having too much nuance or a sad backstory instead of simply being evil and reveling in it. I just wanted to see if anyone else misses the old bad guys, or if I'm the only one.

Why Are So Many Critics So Triggered by Street Fighter (2026)—and Why You Should Give It a Shot

Hear me out: I’m not saying Street Fighter (2026) is a masterpiece, or even that it’s especially well written. The writing often takes a back seat, and plenty of the criticism is fair. The movie has its flaws.

Still, some of the complaints I’ve seen feel a little overblown or at least not like deal-breakers to me.

The first thing that struck me was how much it felt like a movie from the ’90s or early 2000s, and I mean that as a compliment. The humor, the dialogue, the fan service… I honestly didn’t think a movie like this could still get made in 2026. It’s clear the people behind it love the franchise, and the character designs are remarkably faithful, including the women’s.

I never thought I’d see a big movie in 2026 that wasn’t afraid to draw attention to Chun-Li’s thighs and Cammy’s ass. The film doesn’t censor that part of the source material; it leans into it, and the people making it are happy to promote that. It’s also one of the things the “specialized” press seems to complain about most. To be fair, I think some of the coverage makes a much bigger deal of it than the movie does. There’s fan service, sure, but reading some reviews, you’d think the whole thing was basically a porno. The ’90s animated movie showed a lot more.

I even saw one journalist get worked up over a scene where Chun-Li takes a shower, even though she’s completely covered by steam. Meanwhile, nobody seemed bothered by the shot of a sumo wrestler’s ass. Funny how that works.

The humor and dialogue get a similar reaction. The movie mixes ’90s-style comedy with 2020s internet humor “Ahhh, yes, step on me, Cammy,” for example. It’s not exactly DEI-friendly humor, and that seems to have pushed some critics’ buttons. One journalist even accused the film of homophobia because it used the word “freak.”

There are lines I never expected to hear in a modern movie like this, either: “I don’t get why he’s obsessed with your thighs” and “Careful, hot stranger women are coming you know what to do,” delivered in a very pervy way. Basically, it has pretty much everything the “male gaze” crowd could want, female characters included.

Some reviews also seem to overlook the film’s strengths. Take the fights. People keep saying there are no tournament fights. Technically, that’s true: the movie skips some matches between minor characters. But we still get plenty of fights with the three leads Chun-Li, Ryu, and Ken. From the way some critics describe it, you’d think there were only two or three fights in the whole movie. That feels a bit misleading.

The character designs stick close to the source without looking cringe, and the movie doesn’t shy away from the fan service. The fights are generally well choreographed, even if they’re not mind-blowing. My favorite part, though, is the anime-style sequences. They’re so well animated that I caught myself wondering if this should’ve just been an animated movie.

Without spoiling anything, a few of the reveals genuinely caught me off guard. And even if the writing is mostly an afterthought, the characters’ lore is at least respected. Ryu and Ken get some interesting moments. Bison, though, is a big disappointment the animated movie did him so much better. I also would’ve rather seen Cammy’s personality given to another character, maybe Juli. That’s just my preference, though. Cammy’s personality works; it’s simply not what I would’ve chosen for her.

So, should you watch it?

I’d say yes. This movie is clearly aimed at geeky guys somewhere between 25 and 50 who play video games. If you’re in this sub, there’s a decent chance that’s you.

People here complain all the time about censorship, unattractive female characters, woke content, toned-down humor, and fan service disappearing. Well, this is a chance to support a movie that actually brings some of that stuff back. I’ll say it again: this doesn’t feel like a movie made in 2026. Even if you don’t end up liking it, buying a ticket could be a rare chance to show studios there’s still an audience for this kind of movie. Sometimes you have to vote with your wallet.

Niche Gamer or other general gaming news alternatives?

Niche Gamer was where most of my gaming news was coming from. Given the recent pining for censorship they seem to have, I'm once again searching for a good outlet or source for gaming news. Preferably some site that just tells it straight, without articles about opinions on why we need more main characters with vitiligo.

GAMING Castlevania Belmonts Curse Requires you to destroy statues of the Virgin Marg for Exp

Post image

Just... come on man... I can't even refund cause I pre-ordered. Other statues you can 'interact', these you must destroy. Tarot card wielding protagonist smashes statues of Holy Mary for personal gain. Pretty sharp change from a series that was pretty black and white "Christians vs Vampires".

They don't say the name in game as far as I can tell, but everyone I've asked all says it's immediately obvious that it's supposed to be the Virgin Mary and several unofficial guides refer to them as such.

Can't play this game, that's a line I won't be crossing just to chill on the couch.

OBVIOUSLY TYPO IN TITLE, I AM ON MY PHONE SORRY

This comic book panel from 1999 managed to predict the modern state of fictional female characters and beauty 💀

It's from volume 13 of Cerebus, the Aardvark which is part of the "Going Home" arc.

It's creator, Dave Sim, was one of the only comic book writers in history that was critical of the feminist movement and he once said in an essay that if feminists get too much control over the comic book industry, there would be a huge push for cencorship and that the way women would be portrayed will be changed for the worst. He was later shunned and forgotten from the comic book industry because of this and other similar statements.

The skeptic in me in no way trusts Congress not to be bought off, and I’d still take any odds that this never this sees a floor vote and dies in committee. But at least the conversation has begun (in the US; the EU has far better consumer protection laws).

This sentence is the publishers’ worst nightmare: “Consumers must have the right to own, the right to play, and the right to transfer the games they buy,” Torres said in a press release. “A game that can be taken away the moment a company pulls the plug is not a purchase. It is a rental disguised as a sale.”

What’s funny is that this is having the opposite effect, most people are shitting on the devs for being brainbroken by Isreal (even on the woke ass Xbox sub) more than they are paying attention to the so-called “genocide”, it’s almost like gamers just want to play video games or something.

Not really big on AI slop these days but Warcraft: Drums of War is genuinely amazing. Episode 1 released recently & is approaching 2 million views. At best, it demonstrates what fans want & pushes the company to adapt. At worst, they treat it as a temporary PR problem and keep doing the same thing.

I watched VisionQuest so you don't have to

Marvel released this week their latest embarrasment, so I'm going to make this series of posts so you can laugh at them without having to sacrifice your time watching this series.

The central idea of this project is to save as much budget as possible, so while the main characters are the robots of the Marvel Universe you are going to see them as regular people all the time. Vision and Ultron only appear with their robot forms in flashbacks (since that footage is already shooted), even the fight scenes happen off-camera, it's pretty ridiculous.

The main conflict of Vision is that he is trying to regain his humanity. We know this because that is verbalized directly to the audience SEVERAL TIMES during the episode. Marvel knows their audience is stupid, so they need constant reminders of what they are already seeing. Vision comes out as extremely unlikable, all the other AIs can only live on a "mental palace" he built for himself where all the other AIs have to be his servants, or like Ultron, being his prisoner. Vision has total control of that mental construct and he decided that he must play the role of the master of the house and everyone else should attend his necesities and whims. This is a character trait that Vision has no interest to fix, even the series plays it as a joke.

What about the new characters? Are they desecrated? Of course. For starters Tommy (Speed) appears as a con artist in London, something that has nothing to do with the character of the comics. The actual character is gay, but here Tommy is straight and even has sexual tension with a girl that works with him. Basically, he's Tommy in name and powers only. The classical strategy to use an already established character and tranforme it into your OC.

What about Paladin? Well, do you remember his characteristic suit in the comics? Forget it, here he's just a guy.

In resume: Stupid writing, unlikable characters, disrespect to the source material, unfunny jokes. The MCU special.

I'll continue informing you when the next episodes are released.

Why are some sequal series characters written to be more proficient with the power system than their predecessors?

I feel like Aang and Luke are consistently portrayed as underdogs while Korra is able to bend multiple elements at a young age and Rey is proficient in the force and combat much faster.
