It’s seems mostly just a rebrand, no change in price that I can see, but what does look new is that audiobooks are included now.

Discussion 💬 October 2026 - "What Are You Reading?' Thread

Please use this thread to discuss whatever you've been reading lately. Elaborate (without spoiling!) on an eBook you have recently finished or are currently reading with a short 1-2 sentence synopsis.

Bold the titles of the eBook to help people that are skimming through the thread. Feel free to mention the current Amazon price, if it's on sale.

Discussion 💬 You all need to get a grip

1.7k Upvotes

And no, not some kind of handle to hold the kindle.

I will either get downvoted into oblivion or banned, but the complaints in this sub are, well, truly fascinating….

You all should probably be a bit more positive of what an electronic Reader brings to the table compared to books. Lighter, adjusting and varying fonts, thousands of books at hand, read wherever you are and in whatever light situation, etc.

A list of my favorites:

The Colorsoft is grainy and dark
Have you read a real paper book in years, maybe some older editions?

But my Kindle Keyboard had a much better screen than the new ones
Respectfully: No

Amazon is bad for not supporting my 14 (!) year old Kindle.
It‘s tech. It‘s not a „once in a lifetime“-buy. How are all your batteries on your 14 year old devices? Degrading? Maybe a Li-Ion-bomb?

The „new“ frontlight is straining my eyes.
You still have the option to turn it off and read with a bedside lamp. Oh, that‘s not convenient and too much of a hassle (like with real books)?

There is light bleed in dark mode
Aaaah, complaining about crispyness and contrast of the screen but want to read in dark mode? Ridiculous.

The Kindle is too heavy, they should make it smaller
Maybe don‘t put it in an ugly heavy case as if your life depends on not getting a scratch on the back.

Oh and my personal favorite question:

Which color should I buy?
Maybe the one YOU like?

My Kindle 📱 Enjoying Ube 2026 Kindle

Enjoying this little guy. ☺️ I have it on my holder with a clicker - all purple. It is crispy and I have been enjoying it. I got it to use mostly for work and travel so I didn't loose my colorsoft.

It has been snappy on page turns and pleasant on the eyes. May side load more fonts soon though.

How are you enjoying your basics? No hate, just a happy reader.

Note: also got the Ube fabric case for safety. So far so good. It will live in there. Also have a puffy sleeve for travel.

My Kindle 📱 2026 basic screen - much warmer than then 2024!

Post image

I just unpacked my new ube basic kindle (early bday gift) and I am so happy! The very blue screen of the previous basic was always a bit annoying to me so I am so happy to see the new screen is warmer by default. Here are both the devices in natural light + the same level of backlight. My eyes find the purple kindle so much better, it is almost the same tone that I use on my Colorsoft. I just wanted to quickly pop in here to share my joy, since there's been a lot of negativity lately :D

(and for the "omg overcosumption" crowd: my Matcha will go to a new home and make new owners just as happy as it made me previously)

I’ve used Kindles for many years. As someone who had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands, I just don’t have the strength to hold heavy books. For the first time, I got brave enough to load extra fonts and it looks so pretty now! I’m still pretty basic when it comes to my device, but this font is so much easier on my eyes.

BTW, I’m reading Trad Wife, an updated take on Rosemary’s Baby.

My Kindle 📱 New accessories for my Kindle

Finally got my new accessories for my kindle coloursoft SE and a few extra bits because why not?

My favourite place is not longer stocking this specific set, and ive had it on my wishlist since I got my kindle and found this set late last year, early this year.

So happy with the haul.

Extra info: first photo is the haul itself, second photo is my original case, stickers and insert i was using and love, fourth photo is a size comparison between the case i was using and the new one. The new is larger, while my original one is a much snugger fit. Personally I like both, for different reasons;

- my original being snugger made it feel more secure, but my clingy was a pain in the butt, so often came off, otherwise id have limited usage kf the back pocket

- the new one being larger, means i can keep my clingy on, the kindle slides in and out easier, and the back pocket can be used more.

Lastly: I tend to change up if I use my cover or not. When im out in public its generally on, and at home its off. Sometimes its just way easier to not use it, but its always in my sleeve in case I want it.

Discussion 💬 Prodigal kindle son returns

So I’ve been tinkering with my Kobo Clara and Libra 2, playing with firmware (KO reader etc) and calibre conversions from .epub format. Got totally overwhelmed with the various options to the point where I was just being silly and then decided to pick up my latest edition Paperwhite.

No ghosting, pin sharp text, snappy and a system that just works. Comfortable in the hands and great with remote page turn buttons.

Thus I returned back to where it all began for me. 😃

Purchase Question 🛒 Kindle Exclusive Authors that have enabled Download functions

Thumbnail

TLDR: Is there a way to find out which Kindle Exclusive authors allow downloads BEFORE buying the book?

I am a recent convert to KOBO after Amazon discontinued the ability to backup/download purchased files.

However, some of my favorite authors are utilizing the ONLY the kindle format. So I am maintaining my KU(Kindle+) subscription for them.

I have noticed one of my auto-buy authors, Elle Thorpe, has enabled the ability to download her book files when purchased instead of borrowed. Which I would FAR prefer, as I can read it on my KOBO, AND back up to my Calibre library. I have been maintaining my Calibre library since the days of small publisher romances back in the 2010s. (RIP Samhain and Ellora's Cave) I prefer to have my files to ensure I don't accidentally duplicate buy, and I have original covers and edits.

BUT...there seems to be no way to determine if an author has enabled this feature BEFORE buying and heading to my content library to check.

Anyone know if there is a section of the book description that shows if the book file is downloadable after purchase?

Purchase Question 🛒 What’s the biggest issue/critique you have with your Kindle?

Posted in the Kobo subreddit a few days ago with this exact question. Looking to upgrade soon and I would love a fig Colorsoft, but I’m not sold on it. What’s your biggest gripe? (Question is also not exclusive to colorsoft users all device users pls answer 😝) give me the good, the bad and the ugly!

General Question ❔ How do I remove this creepy book ad from my niece's Kindle?

Post image
• Upvotes

I was babysitting my niece today when she came running to me, scared and whining, because this ad suddenly appeared on her Kindle. She asked me to make it go away, but I’m not sure how to remove it. I’ve tried turning the Kindle off and back on, but the same ad keeps showing up. How can I get rid of it?

Discussion 💬 Why do YOU value page-turn buttons on a Kindle? (Help me decide!)

Context: I've used a Kindle PW 7th gen for ~10 years. It has worked great, but it's finally wearing down, so I'm excited to buy one of the new 2026 PWs to enjoy whatever new features Amazon has added in the past decade.

I need to decide between the regular PW and the SE PW. Most of the features don't matter to me, but the main difference is that the SE can be paired with a "page-turn button" case (while the PW + case costs less).

My instinct is that page-turn buttons don't seem that helpful—I've never really had any issue turning the page on my Kindle. On the other hand, I've never tried them—maybe I'm totally missing how much more convenient it is to let your fingers rest an inch away from the screen.

This ultimately comes down to personal preference, so I'm not expecting an objective answer here (some people will care about those buttons and some won't!). But for people who are excited about the buttons, help me undersatnd what I'm missing—should I shell out the extra money for them? I often read on the train, if that matters (usually while sitting not standing, but still, sometimes on the go).

Random discovery: my Kindle Scribe Colorsoft attaches magnetically to a metal cabinet. Not sure what to do with this info — has anyone found an actual use for it? Wall mounting? Fridge notes? Let me know.

Discussion 💬 does anyone else feel like their reading pace completely changes depending on the kindle model?

• Upvotes

i got a paperwhite a few months ago and i swear i read so much faster on it than my old basic kindle. the screen feels easier on my eyes so i'm not taking as many breaks, and i actually want to pick it up instead of just staring at my phone. wondering if it's just me or if the display quality actually makes a difference for how much people read.

Purchase Question 🛒 Is a kindle better than a phone?

• Upvotes

I’ve just discovered kindle unlimited instead of buying physical books (I know I’m late) does having a kindle help with eyesight? I’ve been having a lot of eyesight issues with reading kindle unlimited on my phone. I’m just wondering if the purchase is worth it?

Tip/Guide 💡 Do you also dislike book covers being changed after their big/small screen adaptation?

Then turn off “Automatic Book Updates” in your Amazon account. On the website or Amazon app (not on your Kindle or Kindle app) go to Account > Digital content library > Preferences then scroll down. Someone else shared this the other day but I couldn’t find their post so I thought I’d share again for awareness. Happy reading!

Discussion 💬 If you use the new Kindle Ai narrated books, you’re part of the problem

If you don’t already knew, Kindle unlimited is turning to kindle plus and audio books will be narrated by AI.

Audio books is already a niche category, audio narrators aren’t even a lot and amazon probably used their voices as a background to train ai

If you use this feature you are honestly part of the problem, this will take not only the narrators job away, it will take the soul out of audio books.

And for reference, Amazon will offer these audio books for a really cheap price so they seize the market and destroy any other audio book platforms, they did this with actual libraries when they were pricing books at 1-5 dollars and so many libraries/ book stores had to shut down.
