I liked the couple Sturgill Simpson songs I heard on the radio so went to go see Johnny Blue Skies in North Carolina last night. It was 3 hours of genre-bending jams. The guitarist alternated between shredding Jerry Reed style licks, some absolutely dirty slide work and doomy droning sounds Tommi Iommi would be proud of. The keyboard whipped not one not two but 3 sax solos. They played some disco but also Whiter Shade of Pale. I have no idea what the hell it was but I want more.

Was looking through my RRE CDs and found one I had almost forgotten how good it is. 2002-08-23 Knowlton River Fest. They still jam as good as they ever did.

Umphreys McGee coming to a bar at my college soon. I’ve never seen them and don’t know much about them. Im going to see them regardless but curious about the ‘pacing’ (not sure if that’s the right word) Have some friends who really like widespread and Billy but definitely don’t get it when it comes to very long slower psychedelic jams. (They didn’t love dogs in a pile when they played at this same bar) I’ve made the mistake of bringing em to some shows that were too out there for them and it kinda fucks up my time so wondering if McGee is digestible for the more casual jam fan or if i should just rip it with some different buddies

Yodeling Astroman album release for KSC

Psych-Folk / cosmic sea shanty 🌊🪐

Album releases tonight at midnight 👀

I cannot wait to hear this full album. The singles “don’t wanna be gone” and “my captain” are two of my favorites right now!

BS & KSC complement each other very well. They ripped together in Wilmington back in June at GFLA.

GONNA BE A HELL OF A SHOW!

Seeing Neighbor on Saturday night and have never heard of them, will I have fun?

52 face, over half off - can't make it anymore if anyone wants to score a deal let me know!

There is an awesome clip of this group from the Jammys playing D's Diner, I've seen it a couple times and it's awesome, but being a short form video it cuts off and I want to hear the rest of it, along with the wind up. Does anybody have a full recording of the show?

Last month I made a post asking if Johnny Blue Skies and Daniel Donato were playing in your town the same week and you could only see one, who would you see. The answer was overwhelmingly JBS, so I bought tickets.

I saw them on Sunday jn DC. 3 days later, I’m still in awe and processing the show. The last time I felt this way was probably after the first time I saw Phish.

They were one of the best bands I’ve ever seen. They are so incredibly tight and locked in. They can create this ethereal, spacey sonic texture but also can rock hard, build off a groove, or just play some blazing hot country. I could go on and on about how impressed I was with how this band communicated with one another - it felt telepathic and selfless. Just like any great band in this genre, the sum was greater than the parts.

I hope they continue touring for a long long time but if not, I feel blessed to have seen them this weekend. Thanks to all of you who made the recommendation!

These dudes are incredible, go see them!

Here is a live performance by Don Was and the Pan Detroit Ensemble at Variety Playhouse (2/5/2026). The band performed the Grateful Dead album Blues for Allah in its entirety. While the video quality isn't quite what I hoped for, the performance was incredible. Hopefully, the music speaks for itself—hope you enjoy it!!

Just had my ears and soul blessed! If you get a chance and most likely you can cause the tour is nationwide until thanksgiving go catch Oteil and John Scofield’s Electrospective it’s an absolutely amazing show. To top off the blessing Adam gave me a Drumstick and setlist. The whole group is grooving so smoothly together.

Anyone? What’s happening here?
