Discussion Nothing gives me ick than self help books, absolute trash genre. Coming from a big ex- self help reader.
I always found that either the author is out of touch to the reality or making a generalized claim about the whole demographic.
These books merely have a placebo of we gonna do something and at the end it's just a useless read. It's like getting a feeling of greatness without being great. And the loop continues. Most of the self help are just fake stories made up for the sake of sales and to make "NY top sellers".
Ohh gosh that sudha murthy books are on another trash level. The audacity to try to romanticize the middle class while being a billionaire is beyond comprehension.

Now Reading Can't keep this book down!
I've read around 100 pages or more & it is safe to say that I love Adam more than Olive does!
I just can't keep this book down.(Though I did keep it down to make this post.)
I relate to Olive a lot. What goes in her mind is exactly what goes in mine. I somehow relate to every character that I read.

Would you like to join this community?
Reading books gives us pleasure but once the book is finished we are left with the ideas the book presented. I have always enjoyed reading books since childhood but have always faced the problem of not having someone around me to discuss about the book. Maybe there are people who are introvert like me and wish to discuss about the book they are reading. If you like this idea then I would be very pleased to invite you in this community. Let me know in the comments.

Now Reading This is helping me during my struggle with depression and OCD
I am reading Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter, and it made me feel a little better during my struggle with OCD
What I loved most was Pollyanna herself. She is cheerful, funny, and full of hope. Her way of looking at life is so simple that it sometimes makes you smile without even trying.
What makes the book special is how Pollyanna brings happiness into the lives of people who have become lonely, sad, or bitter. Her cheerful nature and funny way of looking at things slowly change the people around her.
My favourite part is the Glad Game, which her father teaches her. The idea is to find something to be happy about in every situation. When she receives crutches instead of the doll she wanted, she learns to be glad that she doesn't need them. When her strict aunt gives her a small attic room, Pollyanna finds happiness in the beautiful view from its window by calling it a picture which she didn't got.
I know a book cannot solve everything, but sometimes a story can make a difficult day feel a little easier. Pollyanna reminded me that even when life feels hard, there can still be small things worth appreciating.
This book felt like a warm hug when I needed one.

Discussion Which part of the book surprised you most?
Amongst the few things I can remember, I especially think hard on the fact that her mom had to really take on a male stature to challenge the male-dominated society, and the fact that the author had to confront the choice of whether to keep or not keep her first baby. 🥺
I think, as a girl, it hits hard knowing that gender imparity and gender privilege still hit the same, then and now. What I find particularly interesting is how women have had to challenge a system that was never really designed to give them the same freedom as men. And even when they do challenge it, their choices, their bodies, and their lives are still questioned in ways that men may never fully experience.
It makes me wonder how much has really changed for women, and how much of what we call progress is simply us learning to navigate the same inequalities in different ways.

Reviews The Boyfriend-Review and an Alternate plot. Spoiler
One reason Mystery thrillers appeal me is I try to outsmart the book and solve the mystery early!
Same intentions applied I started reading the Boyfriend. The book is well paced, and catches the readers attention straightway which in itself is an achievement for the author. But as for the suspense, midway through, my brains started doing the maths. Initially I suspected Alison, but her death shifted my focus to Daisy. Honestly, the book relied a bit too heavily on red herrings for Tom and Slug, and trying to force Jake and Randy into the 'Slug' profile felt like overkill at the end. The Daisy/Gretchen twist was the only one that i could not guess, though I originally expected the narrator 'Sydney' to be Daisy (which would have been an awesome perspective).
I actually want to share a different direction the plot could have taken to make it even stronger:
The Backstory: Alison kills the high school girl out of jealousy after seeing her kiss Tom. (Alison loves Tom secretly)
The Break: In order to seperate Tom from Daisy Alison threatens Tom she willframe him by telling the police Brandi was dating him, making him an easy suspect. Tom reluctantly leaves Daisy and eventually the town.
The Sequel Setup: Tom moves to a new city, but the mystery follows him when his new girlfriends start getting murdered one by one.
The Ultimate Mystery: We are left guessing between four valid suspects: Daisy, Alison, Slug, and Tom himself
Tell me if u like this and how found the mystery in this book.
