hi there! i am starting the IB next year for n28 and was wondering if anyone had some advice for achieving top marks ( i am aiming for 42-45)…
for reference these are my subjects
HL - English A Lang Lit, History, Economics
SL - Biology, Math AA, Spanish Ab initio
Im usually pretty dedicated to studying and can crack down on a few hours each day, and depending on if i have sport on or not i can maintain a consistent ~2hrs/day (week days). I understand this will probably be ramped up next year so i decided to drop a sport to allow for more time to study! I have a few concerns for each subject but chose these ones very carefully for the degree I want to do at uni -
English - I usually do quite well in english, but lately have been feeling a bit insecure around my structure in my essays, they are usually okay but for some reason I just havent been able to write that well these past few months (IMO). when i have a spare hour here and there i try to sit down and just write a paragraph on a random prompt but have been discouraged a lot after receiving a considerably lower score for one of my essays this year than what i usually get (avg high 90s) ( got a 72%). I kind of knew i didnt do my best as i was quite sick from the flu leading up to it but didnt realise it was going to impact my grade that much!
Math AA - i initially wanted to do AI SL but i ended up choosing AA SL… but math is not really my strong suit. I am in advanced math atm but not enjoying it and finding it hard to consistently keep up (avging a high c, low b). i read on here past papers are great for revision so i will definitely do that but was wondering if there was any tips someone would recommend to do in the holidays leading up to DP1.
History HL - i know the syllabus got halved for my year (thank gosh!) but still not too sure what to expect/ prepare for, would be grateful for any advice on this!
Economics HL - i have never taken economics at school, i have done some academic enrichment sessions into economics and really enjoyed it but dont know much about it other than that. is there anything i should do to prepare for it in the holidays? or would they teach economics introductory and assume no prior knowledge?
Biology - i really enjoyed biology at school and am avging an A - my teacher mentioned Ib biology dabbles with a bit of biochem but i wasnt too sure to what extent, especially considering im doing SL.
Spanish - not too many concerns as i know its an introductory course so i am hoping i will be able to get a 7 in this if i keep dedicated time towards it!
For anyone taking multiple essay-heavy HL subjects, how do you manage the workload, particularly when IAs, the EE and TOK deadlines begin overlapping?
Anyways, thank you to whoever is reading this for reading so far! Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
p.s - any TOK advice or EE advice would be great too! study tips and any tips in general for the IB would be super helpful too!
